It's nice to hear Jim sing lead. It isn't very often that he does. I love his high nasaly Virginian voice. You don't expect to hear that high of a voice to come out of him. I love Jim & Jesse.
As a native of southwest Virginia, all I can say is "GO, HOMETOWN HEROES!" They don't make em' like Jim and Jesse anymore! Furthermore, I'd love to see what the seven people who disliked this video call "music". Cheers! -JB
Garland Shupping was a killer banjo picker that left this earthly coil too early, but what thrill in banjo picking he left for us to enjoy. RIP Garland!
I used to pick with his son, Brandon. It's been passed on through his son. He mostly known for the mandolin. But he can knock the socks off of a banjo as well!
This song is so good. They have their shit together. That banjo-sustain shake at the very end is cool! The look on his face is priceless. He is having a blast!
Last time I saw them it was in Louisville KY @ the annual Bill Monroe Birthday Festival around 1986. It was around 9:30 AM their bus pulled over on Main St. they got out & had been travelling all night. They immediately took the staged & sounded just like this. Absolutes professionals!
This was the finale song at Disneyland's Country Bear Jamboree, one of the Attractions I used to work during my tenure there. At least this was a happy song. All the songs the ladies sang were depressing.
Yowzaa!! I've been a banjo player for over 17 years, and I don't think I'd ever heard of this guy. Always been a J&J fan, but this Shuping guy...GREAT backup playing, those little melodic runs at 1:56 and 2-2:03 - tasty! Anybody know how long he was with the J&J lineup (i.e. what albums he played on)? Just googled him on my googler, and I'm off to find copies of Bluegrass Alliance and Wild Country as well.
He was amazing for sure! I'm friends with his son Brandon Shuping. And he ain't no slouch by any means either. He plays mandolin a lot on stage. But he also has his dad's features on banjo. Heck! he's just all around a great musician.
Jim and Jesse were one brother act that did not break up. They defied the odds and I think it was because they were such gentlemen and treated each other with total respect.

For more of Garland playing with J&J get the Jim & Jesse live double album recorded in Japan. I also recommend Garland Shuping & Wild Country "Soul of the Country".
@Master100Mind He later formed his own group, Wild Country". Unfortunately while battling pneumonia, he died unexpectly from a heart attack while undergoing tests on February 18, 2000, just 4 days short of his 49th birthday.

I love classics! Forst heard this when Leroy Troy sung it on Marty Stuart Show. His voice gives it a special humor.

DOGMAN ENOUNTERS BROUGHT ME HERE. THIS SONG IS ABOUT A DOGMAN OR SO-CALLED WEREWOLF.
Yup, I searched for this because of the latest episode of Dogman Encounters, too.
after hearing the song i'd say it is about bigfoot.
What episode? Did it feature this song ?
@@mtpj9654 Dogman Encounter 263 264 and 292. Some of these are my favorites.
It’s about a bear in Tennessee and the Carolinas or possibly a Bigfoot if you’re from Kentucky
The fiddle player looks like he's about ready to whoop some butt 😂

amen to that!
Hi, Bill Goode! Great video - any relationship to the Kentucky Goodes?
Who is the lead Singer on this song? One of the best tenors I have ever heard.
Jim McReynolds.
They're from my hometown, I dated They're Niece for a short time.
