- CITIUS MAG is on-site in Jamaica with PUMA ahead of Champs, Jamaica’s high school championships and its biggest national sporting event. Ahead of the meet, we were able to briefly catch up with 100m and 200m world record holder Usain Bolt for a quick chat on life since retiring in 2017 and an assessment of the men’s 200m.

Noah is probably the most consistent 200m runner, with all of his sub-20’s. Last year he was comfortably in the 19.5 range all season. He’s getting more explosive as his 60m & 100m improvements show…but that alone won’t produce a 19.1. His best bet is to feed off the Olympic energy in Paris and hope he has his best day to do it.
I really hope he can do it, but it’s tough to beat a record when the current holder ran just as fast as you but covered more ground with each stride

Lyles is not breaking any records except American records. Tebogo has a better chance and more promising potential than any other sprinter right now.

Lyles won’t break it because he isn’t fast enough over the first 100m. Lyles has never run faster than a 10.1 over the first 100m of a 200m race. When Usain ran the 19.19, he ran a 9.92 over the first 100m.
Then when you compare Bolts best 100m compared to Lyles, Bolt ran 9.58 a couple of days before he ran the 19.19. Lyles hasn’t even run sub 9.8 100m yet.
Lyles isn’t as close to the 200m world record as you think that he is.

@@jermaineayivoh8263 you forget lyles has the 2nd fastest 100m of any 200m ever since bolt even admited he ran his race poorly since if he ran the curve at around 10.05 then he just needs to run under 9.14 which at his prime was easily capable of since blake ran 9.12 and we all know bolt was a league ahead of blake

its his 200m time thats appears to be in danger(for all we know lyles has peaked so maybe not) since with a better race distribution lyles may be able to get close. nobody is beating 9.58 until probably 2035
