after his original project "thatistheplan" fell through, anthony fantano was forced to give up his dream of shitposting to review music for a living to stay relevant. tragic really
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Fantano the Best Teeth in the Game? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend.
The problem is the Ego. Its funny that people are not satisfyd with making music(this should be the goal). But no, they want millions of dolars and a international carrier. Thats why they get frustrated. Art must be the ultimate goal, the mere act of creating should fulfill the artist. If you get rich in the process, good; if not, get a job to pay the bills and keep creating!
This resonated with me as someone who quit a nascent career as a comedian. People who knew me personally kept telling me I was brilliantly funny, yet when I began performing for real audiences, it became clear very quickly that what my personal circle enjoyed wasn’t necessarily a common denominator for the general public. I realised I needed to start evaluating what people who weren’t like me found funny and adjust my material to suit that, and soon after that I realised I had no interest in doing that. My enjoyment/enthusiasm/energy were greatly diminished by realising that performing as I was naturally inclined to might not build an audience - the whole motivation for starting comedy was that I was naturally good at it and I could just be myself, so when it turned out to not be the case, the appeal was gone.
One of the saddest things I saw this year was earlier today when I watched a music video made by "Another person online". I heard a line in the song about where I can put my complaints if I have them, with the two options presented being "in my rectum" or, "the comments section", backed by the claim that negative comments would give the video more attention, then scrolling down and seeing that the comment section and ratings of the video had been disabled.
To start a rap career you need a microphone, the ability to produce beats and a good flow and good rhymes. This costs $10-$500. You can post your music online like that. Not sure how this dude found himself +150K in debt.
There is no good mic for $10. $500 is on the budget side. A piano, guitar, computer, DAW and microphone will cost about $3k to $5k. Still nowhere near 150K.
@@mumblerapkilla5406 First off how did you find my old ass comment. Second off I got into producing about two years ago and yeah $10 mic is not doable $500 is budget. Then you don't need a piano or a guitar you just need a MIDI keyboard so if get a usuable cheap one like launchkey mini or something at about $100. Then you just pirate ableton. That's $600 money can be tough but if you're being payed a living wage, if you're not that's understandable, but if you are you can save that up in a few months.
@@swagmundfreud666 IDK about you, but I write all my music on piano (electric piano, with strings & pads & bells...). And then I make a beat out of it.
This is probably the best video you've done. I've never heard anyone make so much sense about this topic, and I'm going to come back to your advice here from now on as I'm pursuing my dreams. Dreams.
David Stoneback yeah I see this happen a lot, especially with kids in their first couple years of college. If you’re indifferent to the job you choose, just pick something that makes money. You dont need to love your job. Even if you go into a field you loved, you would hate it for the first ten years. Dont be intimidated by a “hard” major, you can figure it out if you get your shit together
I chased my fashion delusions all the way to LA and slept on couches while selling and doing drugs. I racked up 2k in debt and went home and finished 2 years of college. Next year I’m going to fashion school in New York. Chasing my dreams feels much better
I really like your take on this; it’s easy for someone to get wrapped up in a delusion, even though it seems like you’ve picked a pretty extreme case. Nice thoughts melon boy, you get a like.
Thank you for making this. Hip hop is such a temperamental world and people disappear and fall-off in this genre unlike any other. It's so easy to get pigeon-holed, rejected, lead on, and etc. On one hand, I had Jeff Weiss calling me a good lyricist and he said I definitely can rap, and Kool Keith said my music was dope but on the other hand some of my friends are just lukewarm about my music and I have a very fickle fan base. My fan base is just a handful of starving artists. I've put about 9 years into this and not much has come into fruition other than a couple of cool and noteworthy people giving me props. I'm glad I'm back in college, enjoying my life, getting poems published, and soon I'm going to be a teacher where I know I'll have a real sense of fulfillment. Enjoying this channel so much, especially the videos with this kind of subject matter.
the sad thing is I feel like the people that should hear this won't understand it, and the people that do hear it (and internalize it) probably already knew this.
