- High Roller is Valleyfair's classic wooden roller coaster, and for many still the favorite. This classic coaster was built in 1976 when Valleyfair first opened its gates and is considered Valleyfair’s staple coaster as it continues to draw crowds for its height and speed. Don’t be fooled by the fact that this coaster resides within Planet Snoopy, it still reaches a top speed of 50 mph, but it is the best way to start your adrenaline rush for the more extreme rides at Valleyfair. With 2,892 feet of track and out-and-back L-shaped curve, High Roller is sure to make a lasting impression. The many hills and drops makes this coaster a classic for young and old alike. Sometime around 2008, I was cast as an extra in a commercial that was filming at Valleyfair in front of High Roller. I had to ride it about a dozen times in a row with a bunch of other extras while they filmed below & we were each paid $50. After they were done with us, we were able to ride everything else in the park all day long - totally free. Amazing day! Funny thing is that I'd totally forgotten about it until I saw the thumb for this video - thanks for bringing back an amazing memory!
If Valleyfair ever tears this ride down, I hope they sell the wood. That would be a cool souvenir.
I agree, although It is very unlikely. It would make them a lot of money, though, especially from coaster enthusiasts or people who have nostalgia with this ride.

Every trip up the lift hill is accompanied by a full percussion ensemble. Neat.
rode this 4 times yesterday. never gets old. that first drop is *CRAZY* - you feel your soul being sucked out of you everytime. scary ride, so much fun

go on renegade or wild thing, the feel is so much crazier, RENEGADE IS WAY SCARIER

Such a great coaster! The sound, the feel, you can't replicate that old-school wooden roller coaster feeling with a new ride.

Edit: Wow. I never realized how short but how scary high roller looks. The ride is worse that it seems. Also, if you want to warm up to Wild thing, this is a good way to do it. Just ride High roller multiple times. Eventually your body will get used to the falling motion

the little "up down up down" around 1:10 is my favorite part..... gives ya that "butterfly" feeling in your guy quite well

All the roller coasters at Valleyfair are awesome. Even this being the oldest one, its still awesome. I love the enthusiasm of the operators when the ride starts and ends, and the feel of the coaster. Another funny thing, me and my friend were screaming on the ride, and when the hills came around, it made our voices choppy, and i loved it.
My first roller coaster ever back in 2003 and I’d say that was a good choice. I went on it like five more times that day. I didn’t even mind when the anti-rollback failed on the initial incline and we went rolling back three notches 😂 - that was a little scary but it helped me build some character.
I rode on this yesterday don't regret riding this!!
This ride looks good for people scared of Roller coasters but want to get over the fear. Like me, so I might ride this one.

Went on this yesterday and it was amazing I love the drops the feeling in my stomach when we dropped everytime made it even better keep your hands up when you go down!!

I love the High Roller, and I love the fact that Opus Construction Group, known for skyscrapers like the Capella Tower, built this rollercoaster as a one off not because they were looking to get into the rollercoaster business, but because they could. They were the GC for the park’s major initial construction, and they took on the roller coaster too. I suppose they figured they had all the local connections they needed to hire the carpenters and engineers and couldn’t risk a third party dropping the ball and leaving the park to open without its big roller coaster ready to roll.

Start with this coaster i was scared of rides til i went on this one at like 14 and then i realized it wasnt so bad and then i went on most of the other coasters right after. I still regret not going on steel venom and power tower so dont be intimidated!

Anyone else remember when they had manual brakes in the station? Like someone would literally be pulling on a giant lever system to stop the trains.

That is the most awsome sounding lift hill i have ever heard. Ide actually put it above arrows lifts. It sounds like breaking ice.
I LOVE this ride! Best part is this bumpy drops!
But at the end, I really loved it. It was very fun. Me and my friends had a very good night.

This is my first roller coaster ever and when I first went on it it stopped like the ride broke for a minute
LOVE this ride- on those last 2 hills it actually makes you stand up in your seat! I heard they got this coaster & their Carousel from the old Excelsior Park (AWESOME park right on the banks of Lake Minnetonka), does anyone remember that park?! Or know if that is true?
Actually, High Roller being the relocated Cyclone from Excelsior Amusement Park is a common misconception. Cyclone was demolished completely when the park closed, and when Valleyfair opened a few years later, High Roller was a brand-new roller coaster. You are correct that the carousel was ported over from Excelsior Amusement Park, though!

This was the first ride at Valleyfair to have the sign above ( saying to remain seated & hands inside the car, etc....), and we used to joke saying that it reads "Caution: Construction Area Ahead" hahaha!
On this ride, i went on it and i was screaming and saying I CANT DO IT I CANT DO IT and i was also saying IM NOT GOING ON THIS NEVER AGAIN and then after all that wildness i liked it and then the next time i was even MORE scared and i got shakey while mommy was just laughing

@@filmfanatics9331 ok, I get the idea, but first off, CF does not put a lot of money into this park. Second off, this ride is a classic woodie, and when I rode it, it was not in dire need such as Mean Streak and Hurler were.
It's valleyfair, they won't get anything except for a trash can or a bench

This might be an unpopular opinion, but really hope VF brings in Gravity Group to reprofile this. High Roller's layout has so much potential - it's a shame it only has 8 drops. Could really benefit from a swoop down and back up in the main turnaround, a couple double-ups / double-downs and banked hills, as well as a helix finale.
Which will go first? This rollercoaster or The Simpsons?
