  • In this video I'm showing you how I paint a realistic Aspen Tree Trunk with Acrylics! There's a lot of details to paint, and this one will be quite the process. Building up all the layers and getting all textures of the bark and branches just right will take a very long time. But in the end it is worth the effort. I'll talk about some of my process, some techniques, and my overall thoughts on how I bring this Aspen Tree to life in the painting. I'll be sharing the painting of the Robin in this piece in an upcoming video, so stay tuned! Enjoy!!

    Stunning. Aspens don't exist hereabouts, though birch is widespread. Plenty of character in your painting. Looking forward to the robin.

      Thank you! Hoping the Robin video won't take too much longer to put together. This technique will definitely work for Birch trees as I've done something similar in the past, but keeping to the unique texture of the birch as well with the peeling bark that's so characteristic of birch trees.

      @JosephKoensgen  Год назад +2

      Thank you!! I haven't tried the zinc white, but I definitely will. I do quite a few winter scenes as well, and I'm sometimes looking for that extra little bit of brightness in the snow highlights. Appreciate the recommendation!

    How long did it take you to complete that?

    • @JosephKoensgen
      @JosephKoensgen  Год назад

      The tree took about 20 - 25 hours, and then the Robin that goes in this scene took about 16 - 20 hours. So about 5 - 6 days total for this painting.

    • @JosephKoensgen
      @JosephKoensgen  Год назад +2

      I'm using a 16 x 12" hardboard primed with acrylic gesso and then sanded smooth.

    Please tell me, did you do the background before drawing the birch tree?

    • @JosephKoensgen
      @JosephKoensgen  6 месяцев назад

      I drew out the main tree trunks first before adding any paint, and then added my light grey around them for the background. This way I can use the white gesso to my advantage on the tree and have a bit of transparency to the paint where I want to have lots of thin layers that aren't affected by any colour underneath from the background.
