    Thank you for the informative comparison! The Oasis is clearly the more comprehensive boat.

      Hi Mike, thanks for watching. The PA17 was just too expensive and big/heavy for us. We actually wound up selling our compass duo and are awaiting our 2021 Oasis to come in, so we'll have 2x Oasis at that point.

    • @offtheyak8357
      @offtheyak8357  4 года назад

      Hi Derek thanks for watching. They are totally usable as solo kayaks, when Nolan can't go I still take the Oasis out solo. It's a little bigger and bulkier than a solo kayak, but honestly it's not THAT much bigger. I do recommend getting turbo fins if you can. And you'd want to sit in the back, but put some weight in the front with cooler bags or other gear to help keep the bow from being completely out of the water.

    How do you find the ram mounts compared to the railblaza mounts we are picking up a second hand oasis tomorrow and normally use railblaza mounts but the oasis sides are very skinny to mount the wider rail blazas

    • @offtheyak8357
      @offtheyak8357  4 года назад

      Hi Mel & Adam, so sorry for the slow reply. I feel like there's a lot of comments I never get notifications for on our videos. Personally I'm more of a fan of the RAM ball mounts, but our depth finder is currently mounted on a railblaza mount on a track and it seems to be fine. We're getting a new Oasis and we're actually going to be adding the H-rail from the Pro-Angler to it so we can easily add anything we want to it.

    Whats the best tandem fishing Kayak in your opinion?

    • @offtheyak8357
      @offtheyak8357  3 года назад

      Hey! Thanks for watching. I'm not an expert on every kayak out there. But if you're talking specifically about Hobie, it's the Oasis hands down. It's not really "designed" for fishing out the gate per se, with only 2 built in rod holders and no rails or tracks, and no built in transducer system like the PA or the Outback. But! With just a bit of modification it can become a tandem fishing beast. We wound up selling our Compass Duo and buying a 2nd Oasis. Planning on posting a new video about the new Oasis soon.

    I had to input here that this is by far the best comparison of the top two tandem drive kayaks. The outfitter still beats the compass with the same options as the oasis but as you stated the price is the biggest difference. I am going for the oasis as I rather have the speed and ease of pedaling. Outfitter was great for stability but man it would get you after a full day of water slapping due to the hull shape. How does the oasis cut through the water and what's the average cruise speed? Outfitter was about 3mph average cruise.

    • @offtheyak8357
      @offtheyak8357  5 лет назад

      Thanks for watching, and for the comment! We haven't ever used an outfitter but rest assured if we ever do we'll make a video on it lol. Oasis is great at cutting thru the water, the front person does get splashed a bit when going into the wind and waves but I don't think that's avoidable for the front person on any tandem kayak really. Average speed the way we peddle is probably about 3MPH also, maybe 4. We're still using regular fins (not turbos) though and usually go at a pretty casual pace.

    How do these compare when being used as a solo boat?

    • @offtheyak8357
      @offtheyak8357  4 года назад +3

      Hey there, sorry for never getting back to you. I'm sure this info is already outdated for you but wanted to say something anyway. The differences for solo aren't much different than the differences stated in the video, they're both totally usable solo, though I do recommend turbo fins and putting some weight in the front with a cooler bag and ice etc so the bow isn't flying high out of the water. Overall the Oasis is definitely our favorite though, both solo and tandem.

  • @mingo0817

    Thanks for putting the effort to show the two. Does the hull thickness seem to be the same? It’s surprising that the compass seems to be a bit more spacious given that it’s a foot shorter too.

  • @tazblink
    @tazblink 5 лет назад +1

    Thanks for the comparison my wife and I are looking at both of these. Oasis hands down almost a grand to upgrade the Compass GT drives to 180's and the seats in the compass can't be upgraded plus need extra paddle. We have a revo 13 and the seat is really nice I would spend the extra $1,000 just for the seats. I heard someone elsa say the seats were good but not great in the compass. How about speed deferents is there much there at a nice relaxed pace not racing just normal peddling? Think less animation when filming the movement was very hard to watch but the content was presented quite well. Thanks for sharing.

    • @offtheyak8357
      @offtheyak8357  5 лет назад

      Thanks for watching! Sorry about the movement, working on improving this in future videos. Speed wise there isn't tons of difference between the two, Oasis is slightly faster. The Oasis is definitely our preferred kayak still, but the compass isn't a bad purchase either. If I were buying just 1 though, it'd definitely be the Oasis out of these two.

    Which one would you think would be best for off shore if it gets rough assuming I get an oma kit for it. I was thinking bout compass duo bit kinda second guessing now, oasis is over all nicer.

    • @offtheyak8357
      @offtheyak8357  4 года назад +1

      Hi Max, sorry for the slow reply. The Oasis is by far the better model for handling rough conditions. It cuts thru the waves way easier and Is just generally better at maneuvering. While the compass is wider and more stable in flatter conditions, I feel like it's more meant for cruising on the lake or on a calm ocean day. I definitely recommend an Ama kit either way though, we never go offshore without them. Regardless of what kayak you have though, I'm not a big fan of going out in rough conditions regardless.

    Hey mike, I’ve watched your videos and was really convinced on getting a compass duo of my own. I looked through the websites and it seems it just isn’t available until December. I was wondering how often you use the compass, and if I am able to take off your hands for a fair amount you purchased it for. I live on the big island, and I will also take into account the amount for shipping. Just thought about it, if u just have the compass just sitting somewhere. However, if u do recommend a newer version, I’ll just wait until December.

    • @offtheyak8357
      @offtheyak8357  3 года назад

      Hey man, thanks for watching! If I still had it I would totally consider selling to you but we actually sold this compass about a year ago and purchased a second oasis (video on that coming... eventually). Even tho I would recommend the Oasis over the Compass Duo, if you are set on the Compass Duo I will say the newer ones have some added benefits such as 180 kick-up fins. December may seem far off but I'm not surprised due to covid! It took us almost a year to get our new Oasis. Good luck!

      Tried both today and were set on the Oasis before we went.
      Ended up bringing the Compass Duo home. More stable more deck space, cheaper. We did upgrade one of the drives to a 180 drive.
      No regrets.

    Great video!
    You shouldn't secure your twist and stow rudder like that every time, you risk snapping your rudder pin. There is a tensioner nut that you need to adjust on the rudder itself. If it's properly set, the water wont push your rudder back

    Remember, when shooting video you have to keep the image fixed for at least 3 seconds, 5 is even better. I literally can't watch you video because it makes me motion sick. So I'm just listening to your narration. Quick cuts and jumpy video might look good on edgy TV shows, but for anything where you're trying to convey information, just get a tripod!
