    What was the point of the video ? To show where the radio fuse is located?
    A solution to the problem would be nicer.

    Battery drain is cused by wrong comfort head unit in older models . Its not cused by radio unit. VW , Seat and Skoda have service action for this problem. . If you can measure drain of current you must unplug fuse and replace it for multimeter set on oneway current.

    How do you measure voltage on a fuse without - polarization? thats an error, it is impossible.
    That way you can measuer Amper or mA, not voltage

      He'd need a multimeter with DC milliAmp detection. Some multimeters only have Amp measurements for AC; some don't go down to milliAmps. The solution is to go to DC Volt measurement instead. In my case, it registered 1.1 milliVolt for 5 minutes after turning off the car before finally going to zero. If I turned the radio on with no key in the ignition then power it off, it was going between 1.7-4 milliVolts for almost 10 minutes before it went to zero.

      What needs to be understood here, is we're not measuring battery voltage across the fuse. We're measuring Voltsge Drop across the fuse, & when this (millivolt) reading is looked up in the appropriate chart, we will have a VERY good idea how much current (milliamps) is flowing through that particular circuit.
      Why use this method?
      1. You don't have to break the circuit.
      2. It's way faster.
      3. You wont lose presets, memory or adaptive learned values.

    You should check for amps, not voltage. Remove fuse and install amp meter where fuse was. If draw is more than .05 then radio is draining battery

    Hey mate FYI you can’t measure voltage on a closed electrical circuit. You need to remove the fuse and then measure each side of the fuse holder. Otherwise you might still have power flowing but the path through the fuse is basically a short circuit and your multimeter is a resistor.

      tinnedspicedham you can’t measure voltage but you can measure voltage drop. So when there is currant flowing through a wire there is a small amount of resistance, because of ohms law that means that the voltage going in is going to be less than the voltage coming out by a small amount. So basically if there is no currant flowing through the circuit then the voltage will read 0 but if there is some then it will read 0.001 or higher depending on the amount. You can google voltage drop test if you want more/different explanation.

      Almost Legit Garage ok so with my radio on it measures 0.01Vwith multimeter set on 1 setting. Or 0.0 with radio off. If I set meter to 1000m setting it measure 004 with radio on (which must be enough to make a reading on 1 settting) but 002-003 with it off. So I’m guessing that’s 2-3 millivolts which ain’t much, right? Might go look up the formula for that. Thanks for making the vid too BTW!

      Here is the chart that I use so 3mv is roughly .7 amp draw (I believe it’s per hour) so you should have roughly 200amps to spare on a good battery, so it should be okay for about a week with optimal conditions. Ultimately any draw means your can bus isn’t turning the radio all the way off but if you don’t go more than a few days without driving the car then you’ll probably be okay. But if you go away for a while it could be an issue when you get back.

    Might be a daft question but does this check work correctly even with a faulty battery? I need to buy a new one. A few days parked up and it's dead.

    • @ckrummy13
      @ckrummy13  4 года назад +1

      jamietee89 the battery needs to have a decent charge too it. If your battery is completely dead then there won’t be any electricity to flow through the circuit. But let’s say your battery voltage is 12.5 or higher you should be able to use this test but your numbers will be a little off but for the most part 0 is good higher is bad.

    I couldn't help but notice several posts from, I'll just say, less initiated tech's & DIY'rs concerning this method used to test current flow.
    I'll admit, my eyebrows were raised when I 1st learned of it.

      Caleb Burridge I didn’t experience drain in my case but I’ve heard of 3 possible solutions. 1. A CAN update/reprogram can be done on certain revisions of the can gateway using VAGcom or the dealership. 2. Replacing the can gateway with a newer revision (may still require programming). Or 3. I saw a video showing intercepting the CAN signal for the HVAC controller and splicing that into the radio CAN signal. I hope that helps get you started.

      Simple Man From what I can tell it depends on the car, mine worked good out of the box, there is an antenna adapter required. As long as you don’t have battery drain then you don’t “need” coding but the audio shuts off immediately when the key is turned off and the volume stays where you left it after a key cycle so some improvements could probably be made.

    • @ckrummy13

      I would be concerned about it, that's a 10-20mv draw which shows at 2.2-4.2amp/hr draw which will take your battery down relatively quickly. Your probably okay to drive with it for a while but I would definitely work on a solution when you get the chance.

    • @ckrummy13
      @ckrummy13  4 года назад +1

      Candice Diedericks you need to get the can bus module updated or upgraded. Or you can rewire the can wire to a different module that does shut all the way off. I’ve sen this done with the hvac controls.

  • @MrJamaleldin

    • @ckrummy13
      @ckrummy13  5 лет назад

      Jamal al-fazli there are a couple ways. The best way is to replace and update the can bus module. This is more expensive and requires a trip to the dealership. The other way I know of is to tie the stereo’s can bus wire into the heater controls. Either way requires some research but hopefully I gave you a lead. I didn’t have to do anything to mine so I can’t really be much help there.
