Beautiful! And 100% agreed. For me, the most rewarded I've ever felt after doing something to one of my bikes, was that 1 person out of 50, that would stop, look puzzled for a bit and then say something like: "Hey, I didn't think these came with that option" kind of comment. Well done again, mate :)
Just watched fender fabrication, and although working my way through all your videos having found you from looking for Triumph Bonneville upgrades for my 09 SE, I had to comment as thought this was great viewing and an excellent instructional video, and as always, wonderfully presented. Thank you teaching me soooooo much😊
There is no one like you, you are both champions. What a welding master. It would have taken me a week and of course I would have burned the nylon strap on the way. And yes, it looks original!!! OEM!
Haha the flipping disc and esibles again 😆 What a coincidence to see you adjust the curve of that front mudguard, I’m doing the same trick to an old FLH rear mudguard to fit the sportster. Take care, Han
So many builds feature form but sacrifice function. Most definitely not yours. You improve the look and make the part stronger at the same time. I think carpenters call the cuts you made on the fender kerf cuts. Result looks factory just as you said. I can think of a few hundred ways I could have messed that up. 😁 One small observation.... the way you wiped off the mig welder when you were finished speaks volumes to this retired mechanic about the quality of your work. Many thanks Del and Miss Penny. God bless and stay well. ❤👍👍
Hi Rick, thank you so much for your kind words and observations, I believe in taking care of my equipment, it's expensive and usually a one time investment, so with the right care, things can last a lifetime... an ethos I learned from my Grandfather when he passed tools down to me that he'd had for a lifetime... Thank you for your support my friend, D&Px
Nice work mate. I’m a huge fan of “highly modified…looking factory”. Love seeing people stand back pondering “I know it’s different…but I can’t pick it”. 👌
Radio Video, boogie with a suitcase. Living in a disco. Forget about the rat race . New York London Paris Munich . Everybody's talkin' 'bout Pot Noodle! Talk about Pot Noodle. Talk about ... 🤗❤️✌️
I’m glad that you re-purposed the factory parts on this one. There isn’t a lot a lot of bodywork on these bikes so anything more than subtle might have been a bit much in my personal opinion.
Del, you're slipping on your snapping powers. Or maybe you shouldn't do fab work on an empty stomach, because it seems your conjuring powers were starvin' to death and were trying to tell you something! As an aside, I need to get me some of those spring loaded center punches. Those are the bee's knees! Keep 'em comin'!
Sure thing mate, as you could see, the snap fairies suggested a Bombay Bad Boy then tea and biscuits!... and then the second time I summoned them, they worked fine!
Great video Del. Any plans to bob the front mud guard? I’ve seen a few that make a vertical line from the front of the wheel axle and another mark where it meets the fender. Then from the axle run a 45 degree angle toward the engine make a mark the fender. Obviously this is aesthetics over function due to the amount of material removed.
What a difference! I had to go out in the garage and look at my 2008 H-D Dyna Low Rider's stock front mud guard (fender) to see how it looks to your modified one. I think mine should be lowered a half an inch. Now every time I look at the profile it's going to bug me! HaHa! You owe me some coffee and cakes!
Actually, if all you want is 1/2" you can sometimes slot the holes that it mounts to and that will drop it a little bit, just use a round file and make sure you open them out equally, but just upwards and not front to back... remember to take the tea and custard creams with you!!
Looks great! I was thinking that shrinking the metal would do the trick, but you did a great job with cutting. Ratchet strap was brilliant. Love what you're doing.
Thanks mate 👍, the curve needed was a little bit more than just a flex and a bend, so it had to be surgery, but happy with the result, it was worth the effort!
Boy O Boy, if I didn't see you do it, I wouldn't have believed that this was the same mudguard. That cutting and reducing the radius and then welding it back together was absolutely brilliant. Well done, my friend. Looks 100% better as well.
This is one of those subtle touches that makes custom work so special. To take the stock look & modify it to look like what stock SHOULD have been, is one of my favorite touches. Well done! 👏👏
Oh no, so sorry to hear that Bill, we do hope you're on the mend and not feeling too bad... god speed and get well soon buddy and make sure you stay in touch.
will do Del, not the 2022 i was expecting. the triple bypass in March was bad enough, but now my Gallbladder decides it wanted to kill me. Typically me it was so infected it had to be left in, but isolated as if it was removed and some time in 2023 i might have to have more surgery to remove what has been left in side. couple of blessings, i’ve survived two life threatening illnesses and got out on my VN900 classic after the bypass, so it’s a winner, winner chicken dinner for me.
That my friend, took some serious skill. I love how you promote creativity, tool skill and workshop ethics by cleaning up after yourself, and putting the tools back where they go.
Thanks Mark👍, im a little ocd in some ways, i like the place tidy and equipment ready for use next time i reach for it.. plus is shows respect for the investment too.!
Great video, Del and Penny! Del, brilliant job on the fender. The lowering and profiling turned out really well, and the finished piece looks perfect. Take care of yourselves, ride safe and be well!
Thank you Sir for your kind words, quite pleased with the result, should look great when it's painted! Always appreciate your kind support, have a great week yourself, D&Px
Yes John, plug welds, you drill a hole, plug it up with weld and it joins the two pieces together, similar to a spot weld... thanks for your kind support mate.
You are the best RUclips'er out there what a result Del. It's as you've said before its not the mechanic with the long line of certificates that make a good mechanic but ingenuity and problem solving! Awesome result and thanks for all your help. God bless you my friend 😀
Del as always your insight and the depth of your ideas just never fail to astound. Modify to look factory now that is the holy grail. Excellent as always Brother
thats money brother !!! perfect fabrication!! great idea on using the ratchet strap 👍 your welding skills are on point brother ! keep up the great work!!! bike is looking badass ! stay safe guys cheers from new york 🥂🥂🥂🥂🍺🍺🍺🍺
Thanks Renzo 👍, glad you approve, simple little trick and gives you the ability to set the curve exactly where you need it and hold it firm whilst you weld it! Have a great week there both, stay well, D&Px
Del I wish I had 1/10 of your willingness to jump in with both feet .. myself it take me a few weeks just to talk myself into any mods .,. I sell say you would make one great teacher. A lot of stuff I do to my wife sporty is from watching you or I alway go back to your videos for a quick update before I do anything
Thanks for your kind sentiments mate, I don't always see the end result when I dive in, so yeah maybe, you do sometimes need to dive in blind and trust in the fact that a solution will evolve and each time you do this, and it does evolve, into a good result too, then that gives you the confidence to dive in when you may not have the final result in your head... all you need is the knowledge that it needs to be done and the enthusiasm to see it through!
Go for it mate, you can't finish a project unless you make a start on it first, so roll your sleeves up, get the tools out and get busy! ... remember it's not about the result at the end, it's about the wonderful journey of enjoying the project itself!
Great video Del & Penny. Excellent fabrication job , looks sweets mate. Del your parts washer do you find it big enough for most jobs ? Penny and you have a great week and stay safe. Cheers.
Hi mate, it depends what I'm washing, most of the time's it is ok, but larger parts need more thinking as they don't fit in the tank, but it's all about balancing how often I use it against what it would cost for a bigger one. Thanks for your kind support, have a great week! D&Px

Great work on that mudguard Del. Looks really good.
Shit Del Mate. You need to have a look at your diet man . Just saying 👁👁
Very ingenious! Good Job!
I use Klingspor grinding wheels too!

Perfect
I’m glad that you re-purposed the factory parts on this one. There isn’t a lot a lot of bodywork on these bikes so anything more than subtle might have been a bit much in my personal opinion.
I agree mate, it's also a budget thing, far cheaper to re-purpose the quality made OEM parts than buy custom parts off the shelf!
Del, you're slipping on your snapping powers. I have that issue too brother, I can only do that when she's not around!
Blimey Del that's a huge improvement. Like how you got there too 👍
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't. I have to use the grinder a hell a lot more...
So does everyone mate, exhibition welds are for posers, as long as it's strong and fully penetrated, that's how cars were built up till the 70's.
This is one of those subtle touches that makes custom work so special. To take the stock look & modify it to look like what stock SHOULD have been, is one of my favorite touches. Well done! 👏👏
My sentiments exactly Logan, the judgement of any custom motorcycle is in the subtly of execution... thank you for your kind words!
That was brilliant. Have you done that before? I don’t know if I would have the guts to try it. Lol
Yes I have, a fair few times, along with many other sheet metal tricks I learnt from the old guys!

So the new holes you drilled were only for proper weld-adhesion? It takes confidence to slice-up that mudguard...but an incredible result!
