There is nothing more satisfying than blemish free, gloss black with sharp edges breaking up the contours. The best part of watching your more recent video series, is that you’ve taken the challenge of attempting jobs that was normally outside your skill set and ran with it. And you’re outcomes are worth the effort mate. Just hurry up and finish this build. Christmas is too far away as well👍🏻
Wow what a result! I'm a big fan of black everything. Just blacked out the forks, fitted a black fairing with smoked screen, black sissy bar & coil cover. Black is best. loving the gloss finish and will make a great contrast with the spokes but then again you may go black! This is going to be a work of art Del. Enjoy the rest of the week D&P 🇸🇪🇬🇧👋🏻🥳
Thank so much Paul, you and me both, black and silver is timeless, and stainless steel spokes are durable and pretty much maintenance free ! Just plodding through the process and enjoying the journey ! have a great week too mate, and keep safe. D&Px
I thought, for a moment, you were going to break out of the everything-must-be-black mode and go with that gray you used as a primer. That would have looked good.
Saxon Wheels of steel comes to mind. Great result. I had forgotten about expanding the alloy hub with a little localized heat. I will remember to do this tomorrow on my front hub for new bearing install before the MOT. Once again fabulous result Del!
Hi Marc, go gently on the heat, it doesn't need much, and if you have any paint, or finishes, on the hubs be mindful that you can burn it... normally I drag them out cold, but these are large bearings and were pretty stuck in there, so a little gentle heat helped to ease them out! Good luck with your MOT!
Always a treat for the home based garage type to use professional facilities! So I guess a yellow and orange paint scheme is out of the realm of consideration? Haha. Enjoy Del. Thanks
Hey buddy, great to hear from you... I am lucky to have a paint shop neighbour and can book out some time there as a neighbourly favour from the guys...! Always good to hear from you, have a great week and enjoy the coming weekend!
I don't think I've ever seen you do any powder coating and that might be a simple skill your viewers might be interested in seeing. I do it myself in my garage with a toaster oven and it's an easy process. Just a thought. keep charging buddy!
@@wobblysauce It appears that here in California any ventilation rules for powder coating only applies to “companies” that do powder coating. Nothing seems to be targeted at a “do-it-yourselfer” that’s powder coating a bracket in his garage. It's like painting a car in your garage, there's no laws against it.

Thanks so much James👍, glad you're enjoying it, and yeah, it's a very long way off finishing yet, but having heard the motor run, i know what i have to look forward to.!
@@Moonfleet41 I enjoy all your vids, but this caught me diving for my bass and playing along! I used "Outlaw Man" for the promo I made for the band a few years back. Check it out on my channel. It has some live shots at a show when we opened for David Allen Coe!
I'm curious as to why you don't lace/build your own wheels? It's far from rocket surgery or brain science, and a truing stand is not a big investment (if you didn't want to buy one you seem clever enough to fabricate one on the cheap). I've built my own bicycle wheels since I was a teenager, experimenting with radial lacing, two-cross, three-cross, and four cross patterns. You can do some pretty cool stuff. Back in the mid-eighties I rebuilt the front wheel on a Kawasaki 900 Z-1 I was roaring around on at the time following damage sustained in a crash. After rebuilding, I repeatedly saw triple-digit speeds on that wheel with no death wobble or other issues. All you really need is a little patience. Something you might want to think about.
I have a balancing and truing stand already, balanced many wheels on it. Ive added up the cost of stainless spokes and rims, and the local guy will lace, true and tension them for the same price..! so why not get an experience professional to do it for no more money !! Ill still be sealing them to make them tubeless, fitting the tyres and balancing them.. so lot's more fun with them yet. !
Hello, I haven't seen you making dual disk mods on bikes. Is it because of security purpose? I'm about to do a dual disck change on a F650GS twin ( the one of the F700GS) . Do you think it's a doable? Thanks for all greats videos as usuall !
Another great video Del & Penny, that black looks beautiful. I didn’t know you had a paint shop as an annex to your garage. Loving your work, you make it look so easy but it takes a huge amount of time to get it all that good.
That came our great, Del. What did you wipe it down with prior to top coat? Nice and hot here… am getting the wife’s Bianchina ready for a show this Sunday. Lots of final touches before we go. Gotta remember to call the kennel for the MIL, too. Hope you both are having a good week so far! Feeling ok? 🏍👍🏍
Thanks Gary, i gave the primer a quick sand back for extra smoothness and to re-key it.. so as that makes a slight powder residue its just a wipe over with some panel wipe degreaser, same as when they were bare metal. It only takes one spec of grease or dust to trash the finish, so just being extra careful. Have fun and enjoy the car show, i guess if the Kennel is fully booked, you could always hook up a Shire Harness and breeching strap and get her to tow y'all to the show.. with current gas prices it just makes financial good sense no.?
@@Moonfleet41 ok gotcha… makes sense. Re the MIL towing us (ya got me good), I’m thinking it might be a bit dangerous to be downwind from such treacherous and unmanageable hind quarters. 🥴
No wishing to be patronising mate.. but "Etching" is using acid to cut into bare metal, simple dictionary definition!! so 'Etch primer' uses an acid content to cut into the metal and form a bond !
The hubs came out great Del !! Once again I'm blown away by the range of your skills. It's an honor to watch the amazing videos you and Penney continually put out. Many thanks to you both. ❤👍👍
Yup, as beautiful as polished aluminum spoked hubs look, unless you never actually ride the thing, once the inevitable corrosion sets in, you are forever doomed to ugly looking spots that are super easy to see, yet maddeningly difficult or impossible to reach in order to try and clean/re-polish. People may say that a thick clearcoat would maybe solve this but still, that does not mean you can reach those places where dirt and grime accumulate, and eventually a chip or thin spot wears through, and it's infinitely harder to try and touch up mangy clearcoat, than gloss black paint!
Exactly that mate, it would have been nice to leave them bright, but this is England.. nothing stays bright if you actually ride it ! and clear never etches as well as paint so it will soon look nasty... as you saw, the state of them before was factory clear coat..! so much for protection aye.!
really enjoying this build so far. Not complaining, but I used to enjoy the videos being a bit longer. They seem to be shortening a bit. If the UTUB algorithms have being telling you to cut them down, I dis agree. Still the best build channel out there tho.☺️
Just covering the work done mate, i don't have a targeted video length, this would hardly have been any more interesting if it had been longer.. paint is a long winded and repetitive process, lots more to come so plenty more to enjoy.! Swing arm restoration next and that's a lot of work.!

do not excessive heat at the hub it will be damaged
