That's the definition of a paint job you could fall into. The hubs look better than powder coating. Love how you set up the swingarm to paint both sides and never touch it. So many pro tips and tricks in this build. Encyclopedia of bike building here for sure. Many thanks Del and Penney. ❤👍👍
Thank you so much Rick for your kind words of support and encouragement, it's a pleasure to pass forward a lifetime of experience if it can help others... one of the greatest uses of RUclips. Have a great week, keep safe, D&Px
Are you nervous that the body filler won’t stand up to the beating that area gets on the regular ? Looks great, that tough paint is a great find
No mate, the tough paint is the best protector this side of stove enameling!
Just wanted to tell you that I followed your process to restore the rusty crusty swingarm on my '05 Sportster. I'm really happy with how it turned out. Thank you for the great example!
Most welcome mate. Glad to help!
Del your production is getting so much more fluid and I'm loving it. I still dont understand why youve had these haters downvoting your videos lately
Thank you Martin, Success will always attract jealousy and hate. People who confuse kindness with weakness also confuse hate with strength... they need to be that way to make themselves feel better mate !
I think RUclips doesn't care if its thumbs up or down, it's all gravy.
It is delightful to watch u paint. That gloss finish is fantastic!
Thank you!
Very satisfying watching you do your work correctly. 😀
Lovely paint job on the swingarm Del.
Many thanks mate.
00:41 Wow dude! This bering came from my country? I'm glad for that! Excelsior!
Yes indeed sir, and the very best quality you can buy.!
Excellent to watch the Harley take shape. Nice swingarm restauration. Love the glossy black.
Günter from Nürnberg/Germany
Thank you Günter. Glad you enjoyed it my friend.
hope this works the same as tipcup guys.thanks for helping me find my way around my bonneville 865 and saving me $$ along the way.love ya work.....
Thank you so much mate, and you're so welcome, ask any time, we've had an 865 in the stable for nearly 10yrs now and there isn't much we haven't done with it, always happy to help if we can!
cheers mate. glad your mending well
Had a bit of a mini binge watch of the last three videos after being at the TT for the last eight days. Swing arm looks mint.... 👍
Sounds like you've had a great time Gareth, welcome home, still lots of summer left, ride safe and stay in touch.
Will do buddy.....
There's something satisfying about watching a bearing being seated :)
Grand master, Lord of the bikes. Teach me
The big press comes in very handy. Nice touch marking up the axle sleeves! Impeccable finish as always Del.
You are making rapid progress and a true perfectionist with filling the pitting in the swingarm. The master strikes again. Have a great week D&P 🇸🇪🇬🇧😊👋🏻
Thanks so much Paul👍 Great to be making progress now, and there is still a lot to do for sure. !
Excellent work sir. I am preparing to rebuild a basket case and wondering if you have links for the 32mm race removal tool used at 4:24 through 4:51on the swingarm . Having a tough time tracking it down with my search parameters. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and talents
Updated. Thank you sir. I'm on auto play for this series - can't get enough
Another leap forward & nice you can see the paint layer up 👍🏻
Thanks buddy👍, glad you're enjoying it.
Another great spray job, nicely done
Thank you! Cheers!
Great paint job, lots of time, but it is done correctly. Enjoyed, cheers!
Thank you! Cheers mate!
Coming from a man who considers himself an expert on rattle-can painting, you did as good a job as I could Del. And that's saying something.
And, good choice on those Timken Bearings. You'll be riding a bike in Heaven when those need to be replaced again.
Thanks Eric👍, The bearings were special order from the main dealer only, as you saw, stamped with "H-D" on them, genuine OEM spec and yes, they'll outlast be for sure. ! Thanks for your kind words sir.
I must say I am impressed! Well done sir!
Thank you kindly!
Great watching how you work Del. Those hubs look lovely, and painting the swing arm without touching it…class. The finish looks superb.
Many thanks mate, glad you approve!
Super nice Del. They turned out just great.
Thank you buddy 👍
I hope to get retired in a couple of years (IT guy)... I was equipping my garage with many... many tools (my father was a mech)... you are a big example to me... a pathfinder
Thank you so much buddy, im so glad the videos have been able to help.. Good luck with your retirement, enjoy every day !
Paint looks good 👍
Thanks Mike 👍, great to have the approval of a man of great painting skill... hope the Harley project's going well?
Excellent professional work mister! Setting those bearings was like watching a great western and the paint work was very nice. Thanks!
2:40 I didn't know my country export these products 😍🇧🇷
An impressive level of finish using a rattle can, gives hope to the rest of us.
Little bit of preparation and you can go far, much skip the prep
A rattlecan masterclass!
A beautiful result Sir!
Many thanks for your kind words Sir, we're glad you enjoyed it, I like to prove that 'rattle can' or spray booth, doesn't matter, it's all in the prep and how you lay it up!
Great video Del. Tight area but the bridge puller worked well. Your outstanding paint preparation shows in the final product. I can’t wait for the frame modifications.
Thanks mate 👍, glad you're enjoying the project!
Great Video cracking job Del 👏👌👍🍷
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent job Del, looking good mate. As my dad always said, it's all in the prep work. Penny and you have a great week and stay safe. Cheers
He was dead right, it sure is mate, proper preparation... an' all that! Have a good week, ride safe, D&Px
Top job Del, looking better than new
Thanks buddy.. happy outcome aye. !
If you pop the bearings in the freezer the night before they press in and seat easier. Looks like a lovely job :)
Good progress and great finish Del. Bye the way like your Mug!👍
Thanks Richard 👍
That paint is something else Del superb finish! Now I'm thinking I wonder if tough paint comes in drab camo colours 😀
What a great base to work from Del a superb job on the wheels and swinging arm not to mention the upgraded engine.
Looking forward to the next video, what workmanship!
God bless you both xx
Thanks so much Marc, great to hear from you, and glad you're enjoying it. Have a blessed week and keep safe. D&Pxx
Lovin the swingarm jig, very innovative. Pretty good finish for an aerosol Del 👌
Thanks mate👍, glad you approve !
Cracking rattle can spray job , like a mirror!
Great finish on the swinging arm. Good man.
Coming along nicely, Del! The detail and extra effort you invest in your project builds are just phenomenal! Hope you both are doing well. BTW, wifey won People’s Choice at the car show. Take good care, my friends!
🏍👍🏍
Wow, congratulations on the trophy.. in some ways, peoples choice is the best award to have.. shows are only a success of the people turn up, so they matter most.. You should be very proud! Thank you for your kind words as always, take care both and have a great week. D&Pxx
@@Moonfleet41 🙏🏽
Great result. It's counterintuitive for some but even if you have a solid compressor and spray equipment, as I do, it's just not worth the faff to set up for one part. With the quality of canned paint nowadays finish and durability are just a couple of disposable cans away. Refurbed my clay pigeon trap recently and painted with three cans of Hammerite. Didn't waste a drop and it's as though as old boot.
Great point, things have moved on a lot over the years.
Bloody loved watching that Del! Methodical, well thought out and well the swingarm looks amazing as expected!
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it!
Must say del ! You do get a great finish with a rattle can silky smooth
Thanks mate👍
Hey Del an Penny - great video and nice progress with the hub bearings and swing arm. Dell, you get such excellent results with a rattle can - it's enjoyable to watch the application and great to see the result. Take care, both of you!
Thanks so much for your kind words of support and encouragement 👍, have a great week and ride safe! D&Px
That lathe has been a handy thing to have. lol Paint looks amazing, as it always does. I'm enjoying this build so far, brother!
Thanks brother 👍, yeah sure, the lathe becomes just a 'go to' daily tool for all kinds of things, even hack-sawing a bolt down to fit an accessory, you can turn a perfect end on it and make a really nice job of simple little mods!... a very worthy investment.
RUclipss finest rattle can man strikes again !!
Thank you kindly Sir!
Love watching this build.
Fair play Del, thas some bloody great paint 👌
Thanks 👍
Good job again Del❤️❤️
Très beau travail 👏🏼
Top draw finish on the swing arm good choice of paint too 👍
Excellent work Del
Many thanks!
Great job Del best wishes to you from NZ.😉 take care and ride safe mate
Thanks mate , you too!
Quality job. Love watching others work :) Cheers Del.
Thanks 👍
Great job Del!!!💪💪
Thanks 👍
Kind of amazing when you think about it. I would say that 10% of the time it takes to restore a bike is actual spent anywhere near the bike itself. A lot different to restoring a car for example.
Yeah, i couldn't agree more, it's a methodical process of preparing all the parts then just bolting them all together.! that's why after what seems ages spent plodding through it all, the whole bike suddenly seems to come together quickly. !
Simply brilliant Del, great work 👌🏼
Many thanks!
Looking great Delboy.:-)
Thanks 👍
Great vid Del. Interesting that one of your axle stands is a block of wood😄
No, one of my axle stands was lent out... and you know what that means lol!
Aye.. I guess it means the guy you lent it to already had his own block of wood... 😄
@@johnthynne3265 ....So that's why he lent it to me..lol!
Excellent vid again and well thought out...👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Top class work.
Many thanks!
Man that paint lays down nice. I am curious as to how well it holds up over time with wear and tear. Great work as always sir.
Thanks mate👍, on any previous application I've used it on it is still the same as the day i painted it.! as long as you look after it, just like you should always look after your bike aye.!!
@@Moonfleet41 some good quality paint for sure. And some quality prep go along way.
Brilliant as always Del
Nick Australia
Hey Nick, thanks mate, always good to hear from you!
Proper job buddy 👍
peace and love brother ✌❤
Thanks me old duck.!
What no paint shop this week, looks just as good though.
Fully booked mate!
Love the shiny finish at the end of the vid. Makes it all worth while. Would you consider powder coating next time? Gives a durable finish and from a creaters viewpoint, another string to your bow!
It's expensive in the extreme compared to what I do here, and I don't have any company local to me nor do I have room for a huge oven to put things like that in... but it would be interesting to do at some point! Thanks for watching Nick, much appreciated!
Enjoyed every part of this vid. Absolutely amazing finish on that paint job, just shows how important the right preparation is to get an excellent finish.👌👍👈
Couldn't agree more! mate.. rattle can or spray booth, doesn't matter, it's all in the prep and how you lay it up.!
Very nice!
Very nice young man!!! Your spraying skills are improving on each build. 😎👍🏍
Thank you kindly Nick 👍
Hey man, did you have some problems with the rear breaks aligning? You put the bearigs in the wrong order and the hub spacing is going to be off. There is a defineing mark on the hub witch tells you the side to go in first and that sets your brake spacing. just fyi,
Many thanks, brake spacing is just fine, so not sure quite what you mean, but thanks for your input.
Meanwhile the swingarm looks amazing, I'm a bit sad it won't be a rigid. :)
Where as my lower back is not...LOL!!!!
Top job!
Is the paint in spoke holes on the hubs going to interfere with the spokes. Mayke peel away when the spoke is pressing against it under tension and mess with the tension?
No, plenty of clearance, checked it with an old spoke.!
did you put swing arm in an oven after?
Why not paint the swing arm in the paint booth like the wheel hubs? Also leaving that cup of tea on the steel bench. It will be stone arse cold in 2 minutes :)
Paint booth fully booked out for the next 3 weeks... and I felt that stone chip paint would be a good move for this particular part... and as for the tea, you think it lasts 2mins?!!! It usually gets necked before that ;-)
Fantástico sua forma de trabalhar, bem organizado e dentro do Padrão.
Parabéns.
Awesome! 👍
Thank you Harold! Always lovely to hear from you Sir!
has to be said you do leave a tidy job del atb m8 iain
Del...some great, inspiring stuff on here...just started watching the sporty rebuild, where did you source the timken swingarm bearings?...can't find them anywhere and does that tool for removing them have a name or is it a generic puller of some sort.
Hi Kevin.. i got the bearings from Ashley Bearings in Poole, here a link.. www.ashleypower.co.uk/
..and here's a link to the bearing puller set. www.spanner-monkey.co.uk/blind-bearing-puller-set-12pc-112019?search=AK716&description=true Hop that helps mate.
@@Moonfleet41 Thanks Del....much appreciated.👍
Hi Del, I just wondered why you prime it first when the piant you use says no primer required? Thanks john.
Not for adhesion, i used the high build primer to give me a base layer to flat down as the metal was a little pock marked from the previous corrosion.. just gives a nice smooth final finish !
@Moonfleet41 Thank you Del 👍
👍
Show....
Is this a 2 pack paint?
I am very confused why this video series would get a single dislike. Great content and great camera work. Keep it coming, Del!
Brazilian bearings! 😅🇧🇷
Timken are the best!
Del's 'stove-free' enameling - excellent job, as good as the filming - but low on cake : )xx
Oh thank you sir... but there is always cake, just behind the scenes.!
Weee New upload
You should have moved the shock mounts back 1/2 inch
That would have lower the bike 1 inch
And why would I want to lower it???
@@Moonfleet41 in most case some riders like to lower the rear to get rid of the large gap between the tire and fender
@@louadams4942 Ah, no, this is getting a taller back wheel, i need the space.!
@@Moonfleet41 ok cool like the work you do keep it up
Can’t wait to see the bike done
Do you still have the hayabusa
@@louadams4942 Yes, i love the Busa, it bonkers fun to ride. !
Excellent job. However I guess it's only worth the time and effort if you have proper knowledge, tools and lots of time.
Gorgeous, thanks :)
Thank you too Tony, we appreciate you watching!
When you paint like that… makes me think it’s powdered coated!! Looks awesome!!
Why not powder-coated? Powdercoating is worth every penny...
What's wrong with the correct paint, correctly applied?
@@Moonfleet41 I know where you coming from I understand that. But why swing arm? Part which gets abused by road conditions.
For any paint job to have a wow factor prep is everything.
Powder coating cover any imperfections much better, thicker. More resistant to chipping. I mean... Its just way better solution.
@@Horus69ss Did this not work then? Did this route not cover imperfections? Is the finish not flawless?... and this is a 'stone chip resistant' flexible paint, and through my own personal experience, I know it works and lasts years.. .perhaps you should try it rather than knock it mate!
@@Moonfleet41 yeah... Been there, done that...
Powder-coat ;)
Have a good mate.
one of the best swing arm restoration videos ive seen brother keep up the great work !!! love that glossy black paint ! on the other hand i would like to share, that I got a 06 zx14 bike for a project ! cant wait to get it back on the road, the price was so good i couldn't passed on 😜 stay safe guys cheers from new york 🍺🍺🍺🥂🥂🥂
Hey brother, good to hear from you, and great news on the project bike, have fun and yes, we'll look forward to some photos, email is: delboysgarage@yahoo.com Take care both and keep safe there, D&Px
(P) lovely work Del. Have you ever considered doing your own powder coating?
Hey buddy, yeah, it's been on the list for a long time, but i never seem to get round to it, and half the time, like this, it's parts that are too big for a home over too..!!! this amazing product works so well for me on every project that im happy to work with it for now. ! Thanks for your support as always, have a great week.. D&Px
Do Harley's only use Harley wheel bearings so you can't buy them cheap at the local bearing shop? Sneaky buggers.
You can buy them cheap at the local bearing shop, it's just a choice you make... All Balls are a reasonable cheap option and ok quality, but Timken are the best in the world, so thought I'd treat my bike to the best!
@@Moonfleet41 Oh yeah! I just thought the wheel bearings were factory Harley Davidson and made so you can't find any replacement except buy from them. Good bearings are def. worth the money, they last much longer than China bearings.
@@Jj12915 I've used All Balls bearings in the past, and they're ok, and yes a lot cheaper, something like £9 each, but for this bike, with this kind of component, I thought I'd splash out and buy the best and nothing comes more highly rated than Timken... and it's interesting that they're stamped 'H-D', the same as the ones that came out... hopefully this bike should be rolling about on these bearings long after I've gone!
Thanks
Mind boggles why you buy bearings through HD, they must be double cost of going to a reputable bearing & seal company.
Not so mate, local established bearing shop wanted £24 each for them, H-D main dealer £21 each... result!
👍
