  • Jiu-Jitsu is the yeilding/gentle way, not the "thrash around wasting energy until you succumb to fatigue" way. So let's apply that principle to securing armbars from the guard so the top fighter can't just beat us with pressure and power.
    Angles! Frames! Position! That's the secret sauce you need to know about to see success in your jiu-jitsu endeavours.

    Have you noticed the oddly specific current trend in RUclips spambots where a fake account with a man's name and a picture of a woman's butt will leave comments with questions unrelated to the video? Such as "Do you have any challenges that you have not yet completed?" Yes, spambots, I have not yet figured out how to banish you forever.

      😂 Banish! The scary part is that those sometimes leave comments that sound related to the video, but then you take a look at the photo and realise it's a bot with a vague enough comment...

    I've never really trained in MMA. Any considerations for using and armbar from gaurd in MMA?

      Did you notice that underhook Ramsey did when the opponent stood up? That also makes it way more difficult for him to lift you high enough for a decent slam. I do it for safety with newbies, and to slow down crazy wrestler speed.

    Could you do a video on getting guard sweeps to work? I'm pretty bad at it to be honest 😅

    • @RamseyDewey
      @RamseyDewey  3 месяца назад

      I have a number of videos on sweeps, but I’d like to see what your specific issue is. Do you have any footage of your failed sweep attempts?

      @@RamseyDewey Unfortunately I don't think the people in my class would be comfortable with filming. However, I think it's just a general issue of breaking my opponent's posture and balance while I'm in the guard. I'll try to emphasize sweeps in my next training session and see if there's anything specific that I, or a higher belt, notice.

    • @RamseyDewey
      @RamseyDewey  3 месяца назад +1

      Filming and reviewing your sparring/rolling is invaluable to progress. You don’t have to publish the footage, but you should definitely study it.
      What kind of sweeps are you working on?

      @@RamseyDewey Personally I want to get better at scissor sweeps since I've heard they're the most basic one. We did practice single x guard sweeps and they felt natural to me. I feel like I have a good option for when someone is standing over me

      The 3 best things for self defence are a disarming personality, a good 100m sprint or a licence to carry a legal firearm :)

      Most grappling styles: wrestling(various), judo, jujitsu, sanda, sambo. Then I'd say muay thai for the various striking methods plus the inclusion of the clinch.
      Not to discredit boxing or other non grappling styles, but I think grappling should be the first if we're talking about self defense(bar/park fights).

    Yoda: "Arm bar like humpty dumpty it is. Mmmm yes. Make one fall off sturdy wall you must. Only than, will defense never be able to put humty together again." Young padawan: " but master, what if we just use the force to push over the wall while hes sitting on it?" Yoda: "mmm mmm good, you refer to bicep crush. The darkside yoir destined for young one. Sometimes, all one must do, is wait for humpty to start moving on wall." Padawan.: "Why must humpty sit on the wall master Yoda?" Yoda: "To be a lessen to us all. Not sit on high walls you will. Destabalize yoir opponent during an armbar you must."
