- We realized we never shared with you the video of us putting in our new desk. And we’ve been getting lots of questions regarding how we price our books, so here’s a little walk-through! We also had a great time celebrating Halloween this year, our first major holiday at the shop!

Okay everyone, I am here to clarify regarding the bumper stickers on the truck that we borrowed for the dump run: we are *not* anti-LGBT+, POC, or immigrant. Carla immigrated here herself as a child, my great-grandparents immigrated from Mexico; and while we are both straight, we are allies and have no hatred toward any group of people. We appreciate each and every one of you and are so sorry to have raised concern! Thank you for giving us the benefit of the doubt and waiting for clarification.

I think that nowadays people got nothing better to do and they offended by anything. I didn't even see the sticker on the truck. I had to rewind the video and it lasted a split second. That means some are looking for confrontation or a needle in the haystack. The bookstore is coming along beautifully !

Yes, everyone should order a mystery book box from the Bookshop Besties. I placed an order and requested fiction books based in Spain and Portugal (and crossed my fingers that they might have some). I couldn’t believe the amazing books they sent me! Could not believe it! It was the most fun online surprise box!
You should have a sort of monthly book club membership for the people of your community where for a price they can take a book to read and then give it back (like a library) you can have a special selection for the book club to choose. It's an idea for people that like to read but can't afford to buy books or don't have the space to keep them, I think it would motivate people to read more, engage with your store and even start buying some other titles that are not part of the club selection. And is good use of the extra inventory also

I bet you found so much vintage in that desk! I’m a curator of vintage ephemera/paper and heard one of you say you’d like a paper ledger. I have several blank vintage ones and would be happy to send it to you! I also have vintage library book pockets, cards with signature lines and dates we used to check out books, and old library book reservation cards! ❤️ They’d be so cute in a card carousel for people to purchase for their books!

Julie Kagawa books are SO GOOD. Those all look brand new. Sprayed edges may have come from Fairy Loot, they do a lot of special edition sprayed edge versions.
to clean the edges of the sheets you can use sandpaper. The books look much better but above all they are cleaner with a few simple runs of sandpaper.

First, I want to say I enjoy your channel and the shop just keeps getting better and better. Kudos!! I checked out your website and I love the blind date with a book and the mystery book boxes. I was about to place my order but then I saw the $30 shipping charge. Ouch! It's a pretty steep shipping charge. I would love to order if the shipping charge can come down a bit. I'll probably check you guys out next time I'm visiting Cali. Again, congrats on the shop. It looks great!

Curious to know more about how you organize your shop/ the work you do behind the counter, for example are the boxes standing there books that has been donated? 🌻Or is it books going out the door for online orders? Those books are beautiful! What genres would you say are in the highest demand for the shop? Which genres are popular for you? Or which are you overloaded with?
Thank you! I’d say highest demands are mysteries, general and historical fiction, and classics. Although fantasy is becoming more and more sought-after, for sure! We’re moreso overloaded with pocket-sized paperbacks of a variety of genres than anything else, not like one genre far outweighs the others anymore, but just style of book. We’re always hoping to get in classics or newer fiction, just because those sell so well!

It was borrowed from an older relative of Jake’s, we needed a truck for the day and this was what was available to us. We are not anti-LGBTQ or POC, we promise! It was just a dumb mistake to not address the bumper stickers in the video, I didn’t even think about it at 2am while I was editing this. We are so sorry!

I love how everything is coming along in the shop! But I think everyone would appreciate you guys affirming you're an LGBTQ+ friendly shop, as well as supporting our POC community, as the stickers on the truck you showed are pretty common with people who are not supportive of both communities.
Yes, that was such a stupid mistake on my part- not explaining the truck is not ours. We borrowed it for a dump run and made fun of the stickers ourselves at the time but while editing the video, my mind glazed over it somehow. We are so sorry to have caused any harm by not addressing the stickers in the video but we promise we are not anti-LGBTQ or POC! We’re very inclusive and do not feel hatred toward any group of people!

Please somebody help, I'm a little confused. As far as I can tell, nothing on those stickers have anything to do with LGBTQ+ stuff. I don't understand what the problem is.
I'm starting to get the feeling that it would've been easier for you guys to dig a hole in a vacant lot and build a new store brick by brick given all the renovations you've been doing ALL. YEAR. LONG.
I can't believe how many people are offended by the american flag and the sticker on the back of the truck. It has a simple meaning: If you hate america and our flag, why do you still live in the freest country on this planet? If it offends you so much, leave.

Well people that put those stickers on their cars tend to have bigoted beliefs. It's quite logical why people are upset
It says "If this flag offends you". Someone who has a problem with America might be offended by patriotism of America since patriots are generally not open to hearing criticism of America, which I think the sticker and your post shows. It is difficult to feel pride for a country that you see is doing what is wrong
That is probably more than I should have gone into, but Im hoping youre posting about this in good faith. The simpler response is that quite a few people cant move and they are allowed to criticize the country they are in

The criticism that most people that spout their hate for America spout, is complete and utter bullshit about how they're "oppressed" by America. If you were truly oppressed, then you would be gunned down for criticizing the flag and out country.
