Hi. Seeing as youre new to town, let me suggest some day trip destinations. You could try Dinosaur Provincial Park {not to be confused with Drumheller). You drive over a ridge and the badlands open up and come in to view. Its like you stepped back in time 160,000,000 years. Going in spring when wild flowers bloom is stunning. Writing on Stone prov park is less known and you get a sense of stark lonely ageless prairie. Milk River and Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump are a thought. Driving the Banff-Jasper highway is beautiful.. Wood Buffalo(quite a drive) is a dark sky preserve. One of the darkest places on the planet as its so far from city light. I watched the Northern lights there a few years back and it was like the sky was on fire with multi-coloured light!. Also, if you venture out on a trip to Vancouver and are not in a hurry, don't go via the Coquihala. Its a short cut freeway and any other route is spectacular in comparison. As you might have guessed, I love this place and I try to let newcomers know of less touristy places to visit. Welcome to Calgary!

Thanks for doing this, it's really cool to see my home from the perspective of a foreigner, there's so many things we take for granted (like the Rockies) or are used to (like the weather). When you get a little more settled I would recomend taking a trip to the canadian arctic in the summer, the scenery up there is also beautiful, although somewhat morbid, but you can see polar bears and the midnight sun -something very few people get to see. Or if you're feeling brave you can go during the winter when it's always night and you can see some pretty incredible northern lights.
