Winnipeg is my gateway city so I pass through there whenever I travel but the most recent city besides wpg was Minneapolis! Technically there’s been a lot of places in between since it was a road trip but something about Minneapolis intrigues me. It isn’t Mall of America even though it’s nice, I’d rather spend my day at the park inside the city. It’s called Minnehaha Falls and it’s BEAUTIFUL! Great walking paths, climbing behind the waterfall, little bridges and those reading posts, and my favourite; a place to kick your feet in the river. 😍 my toddler and I both had our feet in despite it being April but there wasn’t any ice! It was just ice cold. 😂 but yeah, if you’re ever about then there are three places I recommend: Minnehaha Falls, Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, and Popeyes. Like any city, don’t walk around alone at night!

Hey Dan, been a fan of your channel for a year now - and welcome to my city! Really enjoyed your Calgary video, I'm glad that you saw the downtown, I live in an area called 'the Beltline', you walked through it with the large murals on the walls. I'm glad that you mentioned that the city is much more than the oil and gas business and for me, that's one of the least interesting things about living here. I'm also happy that your guest mentioned the proximity to the mountains - being an hour away from the Canadian Rockies and the town of Banff is definitely the "star" of living here. We have the best of both worlds - city life with the Beltline, river valley, Kensington, the developing east village, and 17th Ave - and an hour drive to spectacular Rockies. I look forward to your upcoming mountain videos too - cheers!

If you’re going as a tourist, my advice is research where you want to go and what you want to do in advance. It’s not a city with a significant tourism industry like Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver are, so finding things to do tends to take a notable amount of effort simply because there’s less advertising and information out there online. If you end up searching up what you want to do last minute and just looking on top google recommendations, it won’t be terrible, but you’ll more than likely miss out on what’s best and will instead be pointed to what’s most local to you. Also, I’d highly recommend renting a car in the city because while public transit is not bad in the city, Calgary is still very car oriented rather being built for pedestrians.

The weather in California compared to Calgary is very different. I wouldn’t be surprised if you change your mind after a few days in Calgary. In the winter, your hands and ears go very numb and boiled water vanishes when thrown outside in the winter but other than that. Calgary is ok

Ricardo Uzumaki Be prepared for -25° and 2 feet of snow from as early as the beginning to middle of October, all the way until the end of May. We’ve had snow happen basically every month of the year here, so I hope you like freezing your ass off 😂😂. And please don’t drive without 1. getting winter tires, and 2. practicing in parking lots for at least the first week of heavy snow and ice. A lot of the time we’ll get snow that melts on the road first and then turns into ice, then it gets buried under more snow, so when you go to brake, the snow under your tires slides on the ice. There’s also a lot of black ice to look out for, so even when you think the roads are clear, like after the city crews pole the snow, it’s still slippery. Also in the morning after a snowfall, please clear all the snow and ice off your whole vehicle, so that it doesn’t blow off into the windshields of the people behind you. Lastly, with the assumption you’ve done the right thing and put snow tires on your car in October, in the case of an emergency, either brake or turn into the ditch. You can’t do both at the same time. And remember, snow has more traction than ice, so if you’re sliding on ice, it’s better to turn into the side of the road, or to drive on the non-tire track parts of the road to get better traction so you can stop. But above all else, it’s better to drive a little too slow in winter conditions than a little too fast. Practicing in a parking lot in crucial - you have to know the limits of your car: how much you can slam on the brakes, how far it takes to brake, how sharply you can turn and at what speeds you can turn before you spin out. Better to spin out in a parking lot than on the road and cause a big accident. We have enough accidents as it is, with all the newcomers here from non-winter countries!

Folks just keep in mind whenever your watching a travel video like this one that its not the tourist spots that make a city special... its the wild stuff you've seen on the corner by crackmacs and its the pretty underpass you stop to take pictures of your friends as you walk under every time your going to and from the clubs, its also your favourite shop in Kensington and that spot by the river in the island park where everyone smokes up... what I'm saying is that its the spots that behold crazy memories that make a place or a destination special and the only way to find those kinds of 'spots' is to be there.

I was 12 my parents were on holiday dring through the inner city downtown on our way to Vancouver BC. I told myself one day I moved there being from northern Canada. I been here 13 years still loving it. I remember back when Sun newspaper the mayor was begging immigrants move to Calgary when the city was booming there wasn't enough people to fill in jobs were plentiful exciting time. The city was bustling now its quiet down, but still new skyscraper going up. Its a beautiful unique place it has different vibe from Edmonton. You have come here experience it.

Amy, hello, I am from Vancouver, and have been thinking of possibly moving to Calgary( in the future) because of the unreasonably high cost of living in Vancouver.. Would you say that rents in your neighbourhood are pretty affordable? Low taxes? Would there be lots of retail or customer service jobs available to someone who is new to the city, with no personal connections(i have work experience and skills) just curious..i only lived in Vancouver so far and trying to explore other cities..

I’m a Calgarian resident. Here is a quick lesson. Calgary was oil focused back in the 70’s and 80’s. When the recession hit us back in the 80’s, Calgary was hit pretty hard. After the recession, Calgary began diversification into other industries. Manufacturing, research and development, warehousing, transportation and storage etc. When the recent recession came, Calgary was not as hard hit as Edmonton and Fort Macmurray.
