    Thank you Lily for posting this video. I am moving with my family in a couple of months to Calgary and this video gives a sort of bench mark for salary negotiations during job interviews. I have watched most of your vlogs and they are helpful. Stay blessed and all the best in moving to your new home.

    And another great video from Lily , and I am pretty sure I'm not the only one that looks forward to our weekly updates on how you guys are making out !! The idea of sharing your expenses is probably interesting for your followers in England to see what it actually costs to live here. Yes , Calgary is an expensive place to live , and I don't think you shared anything too personal , that's just the typical costs of living here. So happy for you guys to be able to get your own house , that's exciting news !!
    Your big smile and sense of humor make for great videos Lily !
    By the way , move to the south end , the north end is always windy :)

    • @moefugger
      @moefugger 6 лет назад

      Hi Lily . I think you covered the basics of your expenses very well,
      And yes , I totally agree about living according to where the kids will go to school. If the school is close and in time they will be able to walk to school themselves is definitely a bonus. I hope you can find a babysitter soon that you can trust so you and Oli ( not sure about his spelling) , can get out for a date night , those are a good thing for parents :)

    • @moefugger
      @moefugger 6 лет назад

      Forgot what those are huh :)
      I always find it amusing to think about what I did with all my free time before I had kids , because I have no idea ! Now I spend most of it either at the hockey rink or a baseball diamond. Kids are the best tho , I have 3 )

    As a Brit who has moved to Canada, you can't always put a price on a better cost of living, it may be marginally more expensive than the UK for certain things, but the UK is a hole on a downward spiral, and if you wake up and think I really like it here, then you have made the right decision. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to the UK.

    • @littlenorway3135

      I used to want to live in the UK, until Brexit and more research about the UK’s situation made me want to say “fuck no” to the UK

      It's pretty crazy how the idea of Brexit changed the UK and personally I don't think it's such a good country to live in anymore if you are European.

    Calgarys a great place to live! Im completely aware of your position at the moment but believe me, it will just get better from here on out! Just a few community options I would love to suggest are the communities of Mahogany (SE), Redstone (NE), Evanston (NW) and Sage Hills (NW). Mahogany may be on the farther parts of the City but when you really look into it, it provides a great amount of amenities nearby and is basically considered a city within a community. As for Redstone, it may be in the NE which may not be the most ideal location but the thing with this community is that it is on the end of the NE (basically in the NW qudrant) and close approximity to malls, recreational facilities and so much more. Also, you would be quite surprised with the house pricing in this area as well! Next, Evanston is another beautiful community which provides many amenities nearby. The Northwest is really great about little shopping qudrants near every community for the convinence of many people. Lastly, Sage Hills is no different than Evanston. They are both beautiful, vibrant, young communities for families like yourself and housing is quite affordable. Schools in all these communities are plentifull, as well as community events to enhance the sence of community. As for those heafty phone plans, I suggest checking out freedom mobile (THEY ARE LIFE SAVERS), you can get unlimited data, Canada wide calling and texting for a very, very reasonable price. Anyways, sorry for the heafty post (LOL), I am very excited to go on the home hunt with you. Best of luck!

    I recently moved to Calgary from Vancouver and am loving the sunshine!! Scenic Acres is quite nice... close to public transit... I believe we also have a Francophone School in the neighbourhood. One of the benefits to Scenic Acres is that we are extremely close to the Rockies and because we are so close to Stoney Trail, the whole city is quickly accessible.

    I just moved from there last year. You’re doing a really good job. What you’re paying is on track. Food can come down a bit if you learn what the prices are at various places like:
    - No Frills
    - Superstore
    - Co-op
    - Farmers Markets
    - Wholesale Buyers Club
    These are just extra options. Enjoy Calgary, it’s Amazing

    Congrats on your mortgage approval!! I live in the deep SE (Mahogany) and I would 100% recommend this community for Young families. My community is hands down the best residential family community in Calgary. They just opened a pre-school, Calgary's newest High school will be open in the fall. A K-4 school will be opening in the fall as well. We have a lake (you will thank God for this entertainment when your daughters are pre-teens in the summer)! AND they're plans to build an LRT station is about a decade. It's a bit of a while, but your daughters will be old enough to use it at that time! Also, Seaton and Mahogany Village are amazing!! I think every young family should consider this neighbourhood ;-) They're TONES of young families, so your daughters will always have friends to play with. I've never even seen someone smoking outside their home (I've been living here for 2 years). Stop by one of the show homes, it will be SOOO WORTH IT!

I'm a new subscriber living about 2 hours north of you, welcome to Alberta! I promise, spring will come, we've all been praying for it. It's hard to believe that after the cold of the winter you can complain how hot it is, but we do. All the best to you for a very successful house hunt, hope you find something that you'll all love!

    I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry about our weather, this winter has been exceptionally long and cold, many places in Alberta set cold temperature records in the past few weeks. So if it's any consolation, our winters are long, but not usually this long. March usually starts off at -15° and it's usually above zero by the end, sometimes up to +15°. Everyone else here is feeling it too though, it's not just you... The problem is the last few years have been extremely mild, we didn't have enough snow all year to cover the grass and it was all gone by mid February. By late April it was basically summer. The weather was also very mild right up until mid-December, so by contrast this is really depressing.

    • @zochbuppet448
      @zochbuppet448 6 лет назад

      Was the temperature change always so abrupt from winter to Spring?. In Toronto theses days the change from winter to Spring-Summer is abrupt. there is hardly any Spring anymore. -15 in March that would be a killer for me. i'm not one of those people that complain about January weather.

    • @FalconFlurry
      @FalconFlurry 6 лет назад

      Zoch Buppet no, it usually isn't this abrupt, it's not uncommon, but the normal is more of a gradual warm up, the snow usually starts melting mid-March and is totally gone by sometime in April, or May if it's a cold year. We also usually get about three major snowfalls in the spring after all the winter snow has melted -right after we think we are done with winter.
      On the flip side, it's also never this hot in May, it's usually 15-20° and breezy, so I guess we can be glad that the weather has compensated for what it put us through this winter.

      Hi mate. Me and my fiance (she's a Geordie) thinking to make a move for Alberta if things really go bad after Brexit. Is life better or less better there than here in UK? We live in Newcastle. Not very expensive life here in the North East, but not easy either.
      Is it worth moving there and living UK behind? I'm studying towards and Accountancy degree (my finace is just a florist).
      Thanks in advance for any reply. Cheers and all the best mate.

    Also you can try No Frills grocery store, it is a Superstore branch. The store is on 85th ST, on the next plaza. I think it is about 5 minutes from your home. You can buy faster than in Superstore and sometimes cheaper. The selection of groceries is limited but I think you can buy almost all that you need. Coop also is a good place, expensive but with grate selection of foods.

    For the house you might need to review the possibility to live in Cochraine. It is just 25-30 minutes from your place, closer to the mountains. It is a very fast developing area, with less taxes (out of the city, part of Rocky View County) and better prices.

    Living in Calgary from 1988-2015 I can tell you that the cost has been rising since the day we moved there, when we moved here to Nova Scotia I was shocked at the difference.. There we paid over $1000 for rent, $500 for electricity a month + heat and water.. Here in Nova scotia we rent a 3 bedroom and only pay $740 for rent, only pay electricity, heat and water is included.. Honestly say I love Nova Scotia, more relaxed here and green(parks, woods for walking, beaches) plus less People here.. 1.5 million in Calgary less than that in the entire province of Nova Scotia.. Keep up the videos.. They are Great.. Helpful content for People

    Hmmm. It sounds like you have a lot of expenses and you also need a decent area to live otherwise you would go to the NE which is the most affordable. My late brother lived in Whitehorn and took the whitehorn station LRT downtown to TD Square. He was a white collar worker, he wore dress clothes and worked in one of the towers downtown but they sent the one kid who is now completing University to Prince of Peace which is like Hogwarts school instead of the closest school. Than the kid went to Chestermere high school before University. You can do it that way without having a huge mortgage for a first home buyer.

Your kids would make lots of friends, letting you make friends with other parents. I live inner city SW, close to 17th ave so it's a bit different for me. It's very expensive to live in Calgary and I find you have to build a lifestyle that doesn't involve spending lots of money i.e. Hiking... If you wanna do any kind of hiking or day trips to the mountains, stay away from Banff and the touristy areas.... Kananaskis Country and Peter Lougheed Provincial Park are where the locals head to.

      The NW is pretty large in comparison to the SW but there are tons of great communities up there.

    Great video. Thank you so much for posting it! It's quite helpful :) I was surprised to learn about the credit score. Being from the US, that means I have to start all over.. lol. For those who will read this comment...If you are coming from the US and are funded via USD (I'm a student), then it turns out to be cheaper due to the exchange rate.

    I used to live in London and I could say that the cost of living here is way cheaper than in London. If you want a simple, comfortable life Calgary is the place to be. Just my opinion 😊

    Hi Lily, it would be interesting to hear about chinook migraines. How often do people struggle with it? As for now it's my biggest concern I think about because consider moving to Calgary some day. I would appreciate if you make a video related to this topic.

    $1000 dollars a month in grocery's? Sounds about right. If you want to have better deals sign up for the super market's loyalty cards. For example Superstore has PC Optimum. It is worth looking into stuff like this. Knowing that I do a cooking show here in Calgary it sure adds up.

    Hey Lily! You've been a God send for us gathering information to move to Alberta in a year. What car place and loan place did you get approved by? Also how did you and your hubby get credit cards?

      @Kay House of Cars is by far the LARGEST car dealership in Alberta for used cars. Check out the one on Mcknight Blvd - they had amazing service and I had a great experience with them. Credit cards can be obtained by your bank. If you have no credit history with Equifax or Transunion, then you may have to get a secured credit card 😉 does this help Kay?

    Hi Lily
    Thanks for this super informative video. Really helping us to prepare! We are on our one month countdown for our move to YYC.
    Are there housing association fees in a community like yours? Or fees for snow clearing?
    Good luck with finding a home to buy :)
