Hi there I’m trying to sew with stirring elastic And it’s not gathering at all. I’m sewing a straight stitch with a polyester thread on top, length 4. Why isn’t it gathering? I’ve wound the elastic on to the bobbin by hand without stretching. I’m using a metal bobbin. Do I need to increase or decrease needle thread tension? Nothing seems to make any difference. Any help would be hugely appreciated! Thanks so much!
If you want it to gather, you need to pull on one of your threads after you have sewn the section you want to gather. 1. Sew your seam, 2. cut your threads with the cutter on the side of the machine so you have more thread tail to work with. 3. pull one of the threads which will bunch up and gather your fabric. another option that works well is to zig zag over some stretchy cording and pull it to gather. Hope this Helps!
Firstly, you shouldn’t really use a metal bobbin in a drop in bobbin machine that takes plastic bobbins. Secondly try following Debbie Shore on RUclips for sewing tips. She does a great tutorial on sewing with shirring elastic. You probably need to adjust your top tension but it’s really important that you ensure your bobbin elastic is in the tension disks correctly. Good luck! ruclips.net/video/xfGhkFkTbXE/видео.html
For balanced tension it is best to adjust the top thread tension. But if necessary you can adjust the tension on the bobbin case. There should be a tiny screw on the side that takes a flat-bladed screw driver. Only make small adjustments, like a quarter turn or less, before testing it out.
How can I get one of the brushes that holds the needle? I looked on your website but could not find it.
we have them in store! (still working on getting smaller items on our website) you can call us at (503) 254-7317 and order one.
