  • During this exclusive tour, you will discover the story and interiors of Château de Vaux (a French castle located in Grand-Est Region - 2 hours East from Paris), guided by its young owner, Edouard Guyot, who bought this château in 2015, when he was 23 years old!
Over the past 6 years, Edouard has done a lot of restoration and renovation work in his chateau. And as you will see in this video, there is a lot more work to come ...
An ambitious project led by a brave and audacious young man.

For such a young man, his depth of history was impressive. It seems the entire family contributed to the renovation of Château de Vaux. I hope Edouard lives there when it's finished and passes it down for generations to come.

Wow this is incredible! I really admire this man. The story about his family and their backstory would be an AMAZING story. It warms my heart seeing anyone salvaging and protecting the French culture and heritage. It even more heartwarming to see a young French man who clearly cares deeply about the history of his people, culture and is actively seeking to maintain it. 💪 Love this.

Yes but normally you have to have had a history of work behind you to be able to afford to buy AND renovate a massive chateau like this. There is a British series about a couple who do this in France. I think it is called 'Escape to the Chateau' from memory. Very hard work and done by themselves, but again, they had to initially sink in, say, 200,000 pounds but then you have to add in all the extras to get the place livable and they even added a lift, so they must have had more money on top of that saved. This couple were middle aged and had been working for some time. They worked on wedding ceremonies, accommodation and catering the event as their 'business' while renovating. This guy is 23 and obviously the money is coming from family wealth. Unless he won the jackpot, lottery, or is a gambler, I can't see how he could afford to do all this expensive renovating, even if he got the whole property at a bargain price. It might be an inheritance and he's doing something sensible with that money, bringing back to life some of France's historic architecture, but what I am saying is under NORMAL circumstances, most people could not afford to buy AND renovate at such a young age.

Coming from Canada these historical homes are such unbelievably low prices, all that history! Even with help from contractors. Where we live you can’t touch a small decrepit crack house for under 400 thousand haha and because we use such inferior building products from China, they’re in need of repairs after a couple of yrs.

@@dee-smart Hi! Thanks for your comment. In fact, Edouard explained all that in the LIVE Q&A we had with him: He took a loan in a bank to buy the Château. He received some money from the State for some works. The rest is done thanks to touristic activities such as visits and other events. But the main source of incomes comes from weddings. 30 weddings per year in average. You can count around 3 to 5.000€ per wedding. You have here 150.000 per year to invest. He is on a long term project. He thinks that he will need 20 years to finish the work. He lives in a small part of the château that he renovated first. Also, Edouard had a business (buying/selling antics, sculpture, fireplaces, ...) before buying this château. He is a self-made man, he didn't receive any money from his parents. But indeed his family helped and still help him. They are also owners of a château in Dordogne. His older brother also. The same for his sister. Maybe we should make a documentary about his family. What do you think about that? :)

Bonjour, merci boucoup, I love the video tour of your magnificent Chateau, beautiful outbuildings and grounds. You are a delightful narrator and explained your projects of restructuring the Chateau, using as many features, beams and architectural features, etc., as possible. It is wonderful to see how aesthetically and authentically your plans for the restoration of your Chateau, highlight the smallest details, with which you will progress the transformation to its former splendour. The huge barn restoration is beautiful as are the stables and tack-room with its stunning oak pannelling and equestrian artefacts. I fell in love with the, sumptuous purple with yellow/gold patterned, wallpaper in the master bedroom. Hopefully you may do more video shorts on your channel, of projects, to raise awareness, potential patrons and monetise RUclips. I think you would do brilliantly. Xxxx

I must add my praise to the other subscribers for what you, such a young person, are doing to preserve historical architecture. I was intrigued by the discovery of the notes written on the walls by the original craftsmen when the chateau was being built, esp. the drawing of the cornices. Perhaps you would consider saving them by taking a picture which you could then frame and hang in an appropriate place (library) in the chateau - or - as the owners of Escape to the Chateau did - instead of covering it over, create a "see through" wall with glass for just that area. Also, if you choose one of the existing historic wallpaper patterns that are still on the walls as a pattern for new wallpaper, Anna from "How to Renovate A Chateau (without killing your partner)" is a designer and has created and hand printed wallpaper for her chateau inspired by remnants found in their chateau. On their channel you can see her handiwork - beautiful - and she even hand painted a scene in one of the bathrooms that is breathtaking. Just a suggestion. I look forward to viewing the continued renovations on your beautiful Chateau de Vaux.

What an amazing property! How wonderful to get it when you are so young and have a chance to enjoy it! That lovely wooden piece at 26:00 looks like the pieces used above the head of the bed, mounted up high, with heavy velvet or brocade curtains that frame the bed. Very romantic!

This young man was so very intelligent and interesting to watch. He knew his castle history and architecture. Most of the subtitles were too fast to read all of what he was saying, but I got mostly what was eluded to. Thank you!

There are about 45 000 châteaux in France... but only 36 000 "communes" (towns and villages), most of which are owned and restored by french.
Needless to say, with this density, a few foreigners are welcome !

Just Beautiful, in the room with the green wallpaper or the purple. I have to say definatly the green wall paper. The birds are beautiful and has more color choices. Would be a calming room with character.
What a wonderful job you are doing with this restoration, Love it!!!
    God Bless you!
