Welcome back to another video folks! If honest with you this case has to be one of the toughest I've covered. I know all True Crime documentaries are morbid, but this one was particularly heavy... Video is longer than usual today as there was a lot to cover, hope you don't mind! Stay safe out there and see you again next week! - Adrian ☕
Hey so I don't want this to come off wrong but I've noticed in your intros you say you post "both" and then name 3 kinds of cases. Sorry it's a small thing I just wanted to point out in case you didn't notice that! I truly appreciate all you do to bring us these videos
While I didn't know Austin myself, I ran in the same circles as him and had many mutual friends. Let me tell you, NONE of them were very surprised. This was in my home town. We were all devastated for the loss of Jessica and, as high schoolers ourselves, absolutely disgusted to learn who killed her. It was all we talked about in the halls. We expected some middle age man to be caught as her killer. I was in art class when another student interrupted peer critique "JESSICA RIDGEWAY'S KILLER HAD BEEN CAUGHT!" He read the short statement off his phone and when he said "Austin Sig" my heart dropped. He was one of us. The monster was one of us. This will forever be a core memory for me. Before we knew it was a high schooler that killed her, we used to go out after school to watch the elementary school kids walk home, to keep them safe. After Austin was caught, the parents immediately rejected us. Some acted like it was our fault. This case is close to my heart. It still hurts.
Its true though bullying is at the center of many of these incidents and the adults will place blame onto highschoolers for it but where is the solution to fix it? when will teachers get a decent wage to help children grow, the parents don't want to have to pay more for public school so they are as much to blame for the wackos created by this bad system, they just need somebody else to blame.
@@dawfydd What? Are you seriously blaming her mother right now because she didn't take her to school herself? Being a helicopter parent makes kids grow up to be neurotic adults, fearful of everyone. While we should remain vigilant, we should also be able to feel safe in our own neighborhoods. People get abducted within blocks of their homes rather than a mile. It happens all too often and lots of parents can't feasibly take their children to and from school every single day. She was taught to be vigilant, to scream if someone approached her. She may have thought initially that Austin was there to walk with her. Like the OP here said, they watched the younger kids walk to school often to make sure they were safe.
I'm so sorry you and your friends were blamed and ostracized to an extent because of this psychopath. You and your friends did what you could. You went out of your ways to make sure younger kids were safe going to school without even being asked. It's not your fault. It's not your friends' fault. I hope you and your friends find peace with this.
I live right on the Westminster/Broomfield line and went to SLH, as did all of my family. I remember anxiously awaiting for law enforcement to find the killer, and I was absolutely FLOORED when it was a teenage boy.
Although his mother made many mistakes and might have encouraged her son's morbid interests, I'm glad she didn't try to protect him after he confessed. At least she facilitated him turning himself in.
One thing that wasn't mentioned in this video is that he was already under suspicion and had been brought in for fingerprinting & DNA because a few of his neighbors had called in and said that he should be looked into in connection with the murder. So I wonder if he would have turned himself in if he wasn't already being looked at.
Mothers often foster any kind of strange behavior a child exhibits. I don't know why this is, but without a father around, mothers will get involved in the boys worst behavior. It is very consistent...
@@VWorldWide it’s definitely weird that they had zip tying practice, and due to this crime, maybe the bed thing is too, so it should all be thoroughly investigated, but on their own, those aren’t that weird. Lol
@@syednaqvi2740 yeah maybe it is over stepping a bit she should not be held accountable but definitely should be investigated. Who knows she may have helped him and him loving her maybe he is protecting her. But I guarantee if my son has a 10 yo over watching movies ? Oh I would know about it.
@@VWorldWide definitely yeah, Should be investigated fully. I know that I am a 26 year old independent man though, and I still love laying in bed with my mom chatting, watching Tv and taking naps lol. No one outgrows loving parents
Jesus... Imagine not only learning that your child was murdered but also that the only thing they found of her was an empty torso... I can't even think of what the family felt.
As one of his cousins, I can say the it completely destroyed my entire extended family. I was only a year older than her at the time, and I'm still dealing with the ptsd from it all. Only two people, one of which is dead now, still talked with him afterward. I wish he'd been killed rather than moved to a different state
I love how coffeehouse crime, remembers the victims rather than the criminals in question, by putting the name of the victim rather than that of the perpetrator
I wish I didn’t even watch this episode. It is just so freaking horrible. As a parent I can’t even…….ugh. They should have waived the restriction of law for the death penalty, 1000%. In stead of paying for this demon to breathe for 70 years they should just take him out, slowly.
It's scary knowing a kid this age can do these horrific things. I'm glad he had enough sense in his head to turn himself in. I can't imagine what else would have happened if he didn't.
Yes it was.. somehow I missed it last week(likely due to my working doubles and coming down with covid over the weekend) I almost wish I hadn't known this.. it was truly awful, and a case I didn't know till now.. 😔 Heartbreaking all around.. What's with Colorado and Florida man.. the most insane stuff seems to go down in these two states.. 😳
This happened near my middle school when I was in 7th grade and I vividly remember that we had to go into lockdown. After finding out she was not missing anymore but killed, I was scared to be alone for a while. I still have the purple ribbon our school gave out to remember her since it was her favorite color. Thank you for covering this case.
This is a whole new level of killer ! No normal human being could chop off a child's limbs and proceed to wash the parts one by one and still be able to sleep at night 😐
It's called top of the food chain(we have been hunting\eating animals for many millenia way more brutally back then) or would you be saying this if animals hunted humans which are also animals\part of nature? Animals good human bad logic always tickles my fancies. 😂 Also why bring this here, this is a documentary of a girl brutally murdered not a peta propaganda rights movement.
@@silverbolt9439 for real lol, there is a difference between humanely killing animals for food, versus killing a 10 year old girl for no reason Smfh. Totally disrespectful to even equate this young girls life to that of a cow somewhere. No animals are not (“practically babies”)
@@syednaqvi2740 - the problem is most countries don't humanely kill animals and long before that they r kept in unimaginable horrible conditions. And life is life. The idea of human animals being superior to the nobler animals is a human conception for our own advantage. Try not to be tribal in ur thinking.
Just a friendly reminder you can be interest in morbid scientific stuff, even decomposition and such and STILL not be a creep! Science is honestly amazing and if you're into it you can study a lot and practice at work, not on kids lol
Very true! Like many things, it’s the intentions behind it. There’s a line that’s is crossed when it becomes unhealthy and needs to be addressed appropriately. I have a few friends who went to school for forensics and it’s very interesting!
yes 100%, but when studying these things, there are a lot of ethics hoops to jump through, which is kind of obvious, because you’re dealing with lives here - you can still be interested and also understand and respect that these are lives that your dealing with (even when they are long deceased)
it seems like many channels focus far more on the person who committed the horrible acts, and not the innocent lives that were change forever. thank you for centering the victims in these stories, more channels should follow a similar format. rip jessica - and i hope her loved ones eventually can heal from this.
That's why we love Adrian. That's what sets him apart from all the rest. We come here for it, maybe hed the only one that is capable of how he approaches his content and voice over, and how he focuses on the victims story and honors their them.
@@KatherineLaura6564 I think an individual with the compulsion to kill people is a victim in every way. Applying everyday moral standards to them is just weird and for me personally rather disturbing.
My name is Luis, I reside in Australia, Sydney and work in law enforcement here in Sydney. I want to let you know I have seen many crime reports on RUclips, TV, pay TV and podcasts and the way you deliver your research is one of then best I’ve seen. Congratulations to you and keep on delivering more crime stories of any kind, ie; local and abroad. And by the way none of your stories touched me like this one did of the 10 year old girl. Tears flowed and my heart goes out to her parents.
I live in this community and was in high school when this occurred. The murderer was friends with my older brother back when they were in middle school. This case destroyed our community, but brought us together in a whole different way. I remember exactly where I was when I found out who did it. I was a junior. We weren’t supposed to be on our phones, but we were. We all started seeing the news articles. A girl got up and told our teacher, and she proceeded to write Austin’s name on the board. We were released from school that day and school was cancelled the next. They brought in counselors for us to talk to. My family and countless others met at the local rec center to start the search. They loaded us on school buses to various areas near where she went missing. Daylight to daybreak. Thank you for covering this case. We miss Jessica more than anything. She was a bright, beautiful, and funny child. I still think about the morbidity of this case. I still see purple ribbons hanging around the neighborhood. Chelsea Park has now been renamed to Jessica Ridgeway Memorial Park. Lots of purple, as she would love.
Bless you. 😢😢😢❤ I hope trough this experience you will manage to not harden your heart or live your life in fear, but reach to God Jesus Christ for healing ,so he may set you free from all evil and heal your broken heart and save you from eternal hell. Thanks for covering this. I was living in Denver when this tragedy happened. I’ve been hoping someone would cover it. I’ve suggested it to several channels and you are the first to cover it. It is a mind blowing case. The mom of the killer didn’t hesitate to turn her son in. I can’t even imagine.
@Vintage Toy Collector there’s no details regarding that assertion. I need more information. We do not know the context of the situation. It could have been totally silly in the moment for mom if she had no idea what was motivating her son. She may very well be horrified herself about it at this juncture. If you have a link to a source other than this video wherein no information as to the context was given- I’d like to see it.
I was two streets over from the punk kid who murdered the family in the dentist parking lot on Sheridan over road rage. I moved out of that fake paradise shortly after. Hate Colorado, will never go back. Arkansas is the Beauty of Colorado without all the crazy people.
@@dragonrider9051 I remember this case, it wasn't that long ago if I'm correct. ( Road rage murder) As I watched this video, it brought back all the horror of Jessica's case too. I thought about Columbine, Chris Watts, The Aurora theater shooting, (I live 4 miles from the theater.) & so many other things. But I don't blame Colorado. Paradise it's not. But I'm truly sorry you feel this way. My guess is something personnel happened to you. I could be wrong. But I'm glad you're somewhere that makes you feel safe & happy now.
Sad………just sad. You covered this crime with respect, facts, and just enough details to give the bigger picture. I respect your channel and interpretation of the crime. Thank you
I have a degree in forensic science, criminology and criminal justice and he's absolutely wrong about a morbid sense is needed. You need to be analytical and in cases where you might have a gruesome scene, be disconnected. A forensic scientist is there to understand, mentally simulate and pull as much information out as possible.
I have one question though: Denver is blablabla "with a rapidly growing economy" WHAT???????? Sorry, does he live under the rock? Gas prices all time high, food shortages, baby formula gone, hyperinflation... Rapidly growing economy? Where???
I mean the guy is like 17, he probably only knows a "piece" of the job which gets blown up compared to a degree holder. The guy is definitely off the wall regardless
The tragedy of a terrible crime like this is the impact on the wider community as a whole. Walking to school is something many of us have done and still do in our daily routine. A whole group of kids lost the freedom and ability to experience those simple daily things when he brutally took Jessica's life. Parents worry about their kids being away from them, and kids become scared of living life normally. We become increasingly more insular and scared of being near others for fear of what they "could" do to us. This type of crime is our worst nightmare as parents and my heart goes out to Jessica's mother and grandmother as they grieve for their little girl. RIP little Jessica. I am sorry you met a monster that day.
Growing up in New Zealand I used to walk to school but I would was lucky to have siblings around the same age , we had a few things creepy that did happen we experienced a few people who would pull over and ask kids if they want a ride home from school mostly , wasn't till the 2nd time this happened I saw this van pull up then speed off I didn't no anything but as van took off this girl goes running up a drive way and it happened to be her home ... As we were walking an walked just past the drive way the girls dad comes out in a frenzy rage pulls up next to us an asked us were or if we saw were the van went we pointed it turned off a street 5 minutes later we all heard this big bang it was the dad smashing his car straight into this guy's van an I don't no much more info about what happened after that I was young , I feel the best one is to be in pairs or organize your kids maybe a friend of there gets a ride everyday see if you can get them to give the kids a lift to school an back safe and sound .
@@AntwhaleNearfar are you serious?! How in the world do you think that’s what she should’ve wrote? We moved from this neighborhood about a month before this happened. My daughter attended the same school as Jessica. I have repeatedly said that I don't care if people think I'm overprotective, my kids were always where I could see them!
Yep that’s why I hate when people say you can’t always watch your kids. Maybe at home you’ll have moments where you can’t but outside of the home there is no excuse. Predators wait for your child to be left alone
@@shantel685 That's just how GULLIBLE these people really are like nowadays... They don't listen to the warning signs until a BOMB explodes right in their face! 💥💥💣💥💥
Austin’s mother did what some mothers would never do. She turned him in because it was the right thing to do. I wish more parents would do the same thing - case in point is Brian Laundrie’s mother who tried to protect him from the consequences of his actions. Rest in love Jessica Ridgeway and Gabbie Petito 👼💕
I mean...she contributed to, and laughed off, his questionable behavior for years, so she kind of failed her parental responsibility to him. She's not a hero in this story. HE asked her to turn him in, HE told her everything he had done, and the remains were still in their house. He even told the dispatcher to send the cops to get him...that isn't the norm in these cases.
He dropped out of school because he was so extensively bullied for being weird. And now a bunch of his classmates (at least some said they went to lower grades with him before they went to college) are saying how nice and caring he was and how he was friends with everyone. Something's not tracking here. Like they didn't want to admit they were bullies or that he was always the weird kid no one liked. I always feel like the people they interview after who had no idea are lying though. They don't want to admit they always knew that guy was a creep and did nothing about it (even though there's likely nothing that could have been done just for thinking the guy's a creep anyway). They don't want to admit to the world they feel some responsibility for knowing something was wrong, for being bullies, for avoiding the person, whatever they did and doing nothing.
they are just hunting for clout...want to be in tv talking and getting "fame" and attention Same people who probably bullied him. Two-faced american cool highschool culture with "cast system" and other bull is nothing new...stereotypical fenomenon
@@LiquidShivaz Relentless bullying can create or exacerbate certain psychological issues. Bullying does not make a person a child predator. People who commit these types of crimes are innately aroused by acts that involve transgressing social and personal boundaries and imposing their will on others. They lack empathy and view their interactions with others in terms of a power struggle. These character traits are wrapped up in untreatable personality disorders.
yeah they didn't give a shit about him when he was in school but want attention that's why they're all squawking like idiots. But none of that changes the fact that he is a maniac.
Sometimes its the small stuff. I was so glad to hear the operator be understanding about the mums scedule and calmly asking to understand the events. Saying a word as simple as „sorry“ can sadly be rare to hear from emergency personnel.
@@warweaponx6629 Still makes me laugh that a 10 year old being can't be tasked to walk a short distance. No, we humans need 16 years minimum to do anything. Just don't forget telling your child to breathe :D
@@warweaponx6629 that’s actually far from the truth. She was 10. She was very capable of walking a few blocks on her own. Plus it was stated in the video that she usually walks alone for a few blocks to meet up with a friend whom she walked with daily. Her mother did NOTHING wrong.
I went to the same high school as Austin Sigg. I can remember when Jessica Ridgeway disappeared. The whole city went looking for her and we eagerly awaited her return. I had asked my Mom if I could help look, but she advised me not to. One day at school I was pulled into the principles office where they asked me if I had known Austin. I hadn't known him personally but recognized him from the halls and common areas. When they told me what he did, I was petrified. Knowing you've been so close to a killer is very uncomfortable. Leaving the office, other kids who had transferred with me were in the hall waiting to hear the news. It shook us all. It's hard to express what a traumatic event like this does to the people of the community.
I always love how Adrian always puts sympathy for the victims and doesn't refrain from throwing insult to the perpetrators while not sacrificing the narration of his reports
I’m from CO and I remember when this happened. I remember I wasn’t old enough to search but my mother went with the search parties everyday. This is burned into the minds of people here and I’m still disgusted and horrified. We’ve seen some horrible things here in CO but this is something that can never be forgotten. RIP Jessica💜
I despise that saying someone was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” when in reality they were where they were suppose to be and/or wanted to be. Evil people are everywhere and will strike at a moment’s notice. RIP sweet adorable Jessica. 😞🙏🏽🕊
Well, it seems like some people obviously don't really believe that tho... Walking alone late at night, down empty roads and alleyways, with their faces BURIED in their phones; totally OBLIVIOUS to who or what might be lurking around the corner! Sound kinda familiar?
That irritated me when he said that, like no she was at the RIGHT place at the right time, she was just going to school like a billion other kids. He’s the one who MADE it wrong by kidnapping her to use her body and take her life.
True them wanting to hurt someone was the wrong thinking or doing. Instead of accepting they were wrong noo, that person was in the wrong place he was glad she was no one forced him to do it, he did it willingly. We need to keep a close eye on our kids so they dont get hurt or do the hurting.
I am someone who has watched almost every video on this channel. And out of all of them this was the first video I had to pause and regroup after hearing about her torso being found in a field. I am not disturbed easily due to a lot of personal trauma I have encountered over my life… but this video has shook me to my absolute core.
Just picked her right out. This is why I don’t want my kids walking to their bus stop alone. My heart would just drop through my stomach if I got a call from the school saying they didn’t make it.
@@_Y.Not_ it's rare, but there are several other cases I can think of that involved kids walking to or from school or the playground or schoolbus alone and getting abducted and killed. I can think of at least like 4 of these cases off the top of my head. I won't let my daughters walk alone anywhere, the eldest is nearly 8...
It sucks , single mum working nightshift probably just trying to keep food on the table however she can ... but yea shoukd always try and arrange something with other parents so kids can walk together..
This case creeped me out on a new level. It's terrifying with murderers like these. Thank you for covering the case in such a respectful way. (Nice shirt btw, truly looks like a barista)
This was a huge part of my childhood. This poor girl was found MILES away from my house. I was like 9 years old at the time, and I couldn't believe that anything so terrible could happen. Im not joking when I say that I have prayed for her so many times in my life. Always remember Jessica
We had a very similar murder of a 10 year old girl here in Toronto at around the same time. Her name was Holly Jones. A friend of mine worked in the same office as the murderer and she said the police came to her work and cut out his whole cubicle-carpet and all- and took it away. They caught him when he threw away his garbage at the Taco Bell down the street and got his straw, which contained his DNA. I hope he never sees the light of day ever again.
Brilliant. Murderers and criminals are amongst us. Glad he got caught. One of my male colleagues was arrested in front of me and another colleague in a different workplace was found to be a rapist. I am very wary of being along with a male colleague and even interviews is something I won't be alone with a man.
@@terredee Thought nothing to do with the case, two of my colleagues were criminals. One in fact was arrested in the workplace, and another was a rapist. The first male who worked as chef in the kitchen used to play practical jokes on me and ring me and pretend to be someone else. Looking back now, this is kind of weird behaviour. The irony is that we used to laugh together but today I think, perhaps he was manipulating me and targetting me for sadistic reasons. The second one the rapist, 'he was just annoying colleague' but nothing special as many male colleagues can be annoying. Now looking back every male colleague will not be trusted
My daughter is 10 now, I'm really struggling to listen to this, my heart goes out to her family and it disgusts me they moved him for his protection! I'm going home to hug my little girl and educate her on the evils in this world. Be safe people x
Same here. My kids . I want to protect them from the world, but also let them experience it. I can’t lock them in the house out of fear. But then their are parents like Jennifer and James Crumbley.
Perhaps you should train her so she is strong and can run fast. Though today’s fear of hurt is severely overblown, distracting us from the real problems like freedoms being taken away. Sooner or later the state will decide who your daughter marries, or what kind of home she gets to live in, or maybe even whether she is allowed to get medical treatment or not.
The fact that he was out, looking for ANY woman that literally just crossed paths with him, makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. The world is a scary place for women. I hope this poor baby can rest in peace.
@@123forafurry Austin has mother that had been well informed of his disturbed condition and chose to ignore it. Evil is sexless, world is a scary place for both men and women.
I'm so intrigued by these unknown cases, even with so many channels covering so many cases every day! Every episode is learning something new, and while upsetting the cases are, I appreciate every upload nonetheless. Great work, Adrian :)
When I first started college I was still living with my parents. We had a neighbor who also worked nights and would come home just in time to wake up her son and help him get ready for school. Then she would send him over to us to ask us to take him. It was only a mile and I thought the whole thing was a massive imposition. What could possibly happen in that sleepy neighborhood only a mile away from school? My sister and brother had walked to that same school all by themselves, why couldn't he? Well, this was eye opening. This video left me in tears.
I’ve been watching coffeehouse for a while now and never thought I’d see Jessica’s case covered. I can’t bring myself to watch this video because of trauma so I should hope it was covered with the most respect. I don’t see her name often these days or her memory shared, so thank you
Rest assured, Adrian did a very respectful job of covering this case. With pictures of her memorial park at the end, and learning that her favorite color was purple; focusing on her rather than the POS who killed her. 💖
Oh shit, I remember this all going down. Was in Middle School at the time. I lived in the same neighborhood as the killer. My middle school math teacher found a calculator that belonged to him. One of my classmates lived across the street from Jessica, and described how she couldn't sleep when she heard Jessica's Mom's crying. There's even a Jessica Ridgeway Park now that I've seen a few times. It's still raw.
I feel for his mother… I can’t even imagine the pain she felt on that phone call… I honestly don’t know if I could live with knowing my son raped and murdered a child and that I DIRECTLY helped him prepare to do it by helping him practice with zip ties… not even gunna sugarcoat words on that shit
Not gonna lie...if I had a son...and found some kids body parts in his room...he'd be half dead with broken bones by the time the cops came to get him.
@@chiles75 That parent couldn't tell something was wrong with her psycho son? One glance at his photo and I could see he was possessed by the devil. Probably shouldn't have allowed him access to the internet and swords after that child porn incident.
If you read the affidavit he didn't rape her, he placed a wooden cross in her vagina to make police believe it was a religious zealot who committed the crime, though it doesn't directly state he committed rape. It does admit that he attests that his crimes were possibly sexual in nature ("the thrill").
Sigg went to my highschool, with me, and he was odd but never seemed like somebody who would be capable of this. I'll never forget this happening. There is still a tree with a purple ribbon on it, showing where she was kidnapped
Thank you for covering this tragic case. 💜 It reminded me of the Somer Thompson murder. Somer was walking home from school, kidnapped, s.a.'d, killed, and thrown away. There is a local garden in her name, and a memorial tree at a nearby park. Her killer was caught, given life behind bars, and moved due to the severity and notoriety of the case. Like Jessica, Somer's favorite color was purple and the county adorned itself with purple ribbons and balloons in celebration of her life. May Jessica, Somer, and all victims of these tragic cases rest in peace.
Woke up just in time for this As soon as I heard the innocent little girl walked to school, I knew something was up. It sucks that we live in a society where we can’t even walk 1 mile to school and back without creeps looking to harm the innocent… When I was a child, my grandmother’s house wasn’t even a quarter mile away and my mother still watched me walk over. So every time something like this happens, some people can't fathom it. Not because it's out of the ordinary where they live, it's rather a confrontation with reality.
@@wibbleplays6202 Hi! For some strange reason, school districts seem to feel that busing is not needed unless you live more than 1 mile from school. Or, the kids would be walking next to a high traffic road. We weren't more than a half mile from my daughter's school, but there were no sidewalks, and the two lane road had a speed limit of 55mph, so I walked her to the bus stop in the morning and met her when she got home. That was 25 years ago, and child snatching is worse, now. As a parent, (even tho she's 31) I wish all kids could be bussed to and from school. It would be a bit safer, at least. ✌️😺

I vividly remember this unfortunate case so much, I was 13 at the time of Jessica’s abduction and her elementary school was 10 minutes away from my middle school. We had a assembly announcing her death and a seminar in what to do in these situations it was so heart breaking.. i remember me and my friends wore purple her favorite color for the week after in her honor, may Jessica always be remembered and may she Rest In Peace 💜
It’s crazy seeing these twin experiences to my own… there’s been, like, two others besides the two of us I’ve seen that also had similar experiences. But to be fair, this was around the time of the big CO market boom where property prices shot up, so lots of people were moving there, making Denver one of the more populated places in the U.S and creating an expanding population - thus Jessica’s story reaches further
Jessica’s mom is not to blame. I’m sorry and I get it that if she had driven her it wouldn’t have happened but that’s the same for all of us. If some people didn’t go to the park their kid wouldn’t have been snatched. If the kids didnt go to the mall they wouldn’t have gotten shot by an insane mall shooter. Bless her mom and family. I feel so bad for them. I cannot fathom having to go through this.
Yes the mother is to blame her sleep wasn't worth losing her child I am a parent my kids safety over rules all no 10 year old child so half to walk by them selfs
Hey. I RARELY ever watch cases pertaining to kids because it just hits me too hard. But you presented this case thoroughly yet sensitively. Thank you for this. My heart goes out to Jessica’s family ❤️
Plus this was a safe neighborhood, these things just didn’t happen there… I walked to the same park hundreds of times when I was a kid, and regularly explored the neighborhood much further without supervision.
Still man. I personally wouldn't consider letting a kid under 15 walk the streets alone. Doesn't matter how safe your area is, sicko's hide between us. Happens all the time unfortunately.
Yeah, he does seem like a genuinely nice fella. And he seems to be a natural at handling this kind of sensitive subject matter and presenting it in an informative respectful way that balances facts and emotions. Definitely one of my favorite channels and hosts.
We usually, in forensic, criminal psychology, speak about high, middle or low risk victims. Meaning that depending on your lifestyle and habits, your risk of becoming a victim of crime will be accordingly high, middle or low. But this case shows that at times, it doesn’t apply. You really can be in a wrong place at the wrong time, totally out of utter coincidence. Very very tragic case. Thank you for covering, Adrian
But IT IS high risk to walk alone to school as a tiny girl though! I will certainly make sure to drive all my future children back and forth from school. Now THAT turns the risk from high to low.
I would agree with that. I live in a village and I have to walk on a country lane to the train station on my own and I regularly do that, so I take my bike and change my route regularly. Just being alone where are there are cars in an isolated area increases the risk even in the countryside. Only last week I had a lone male offer me a lift in his car. Also as I have no car, I am more of a familar person in the village so stick out more.
As a mother myself, this story is very upsetting to watch because it's one of those senseless killings and I just can't imagine what Jessica's parents went through.
Oh please, you don't know how and why austin did what he did. I refuse to accept "Because he was a sick twistied psychopath" as an answer anymore. I want to know EVERYTHING about this guy. Then i'll care about the victum.

I know that the dispatcher have been trained or maybe have been doing it for years, but her calmness and professionalism to keep Austin on the phone until the authorities arrive at their house is amazing
Why do people praise the dispatcher all the time? They are paid to receive calls and sound monotone. In this instance, she sounded almost bored and impatient.
Per the prisoner's code/jailhouse code of ethics, he is at the bottom and considered the most loathsome and detestable amongst all convicted criminals. Unless he spends his life in solitary he will live in constant fear of the jailhouse justice that awaits him. No amount of transfers from prison to prison will save him from that.
You are absolutely right. I have worked in corrections for nearly 20 years and I have seen first hand what happens to inmates that harm a child in any way. There could be the worst murderer on the planet but once they find out a child has been hurt or killed they immediately become enemy number 1 and they will get you. I have caught these attacks as they were happening and I have seen only the aftermath. I bet if any sick individual that has the thought of wanting to hurt a child crosses their mind they would change it after seeing some of the things I've seen.
Was going to mention this, he will be used&abused constantly, I hope he lives in utter torment for the restof his pathetic existence, it's only fitting for such a monster
I lived in westminster during this case, I had two young elementary school aged siblings. It was terrifying, gruesome, and absolutely shocking for this to have happened.
I live in colorado, the city over from Westminster, and I’ve always remembered this case. I was 12 and in 7th grade, and we had teachers and councilors speaking too us (especially after she was found) because so many were worried about becoming a victim of such a crime. Ill never forget having full classes dedicated too helping us as children feel safe again after this happened, especially since so many of us were so close in age too her. It was crazy because it’s relatively safe around here so a child being kidnapped the way she was made a lot of us feel like it wasn’t as safe as so many of us had thought.
it is so like our country to try to tell kids they are safe, but no one who's in positions of authority who have the ability to actually change laws to keep monsters locked up far longer, or increase any of the budgets of Police Departments so that they have the necessary tools and man power to catch more killers and rapists....but no, just go in the schools and tell the children that they are safe.... when they knew darn well that no one is 100% safe in this country or this world. Cause there are just too many murderous nuts in the world.
Poor little Jessica. I remembered this when it happened. Absolutely terrifying.I have been very overprotective of my child. Walking to and from school from the age of 6 and up. I saw numerous weirdos exposing themselves and many other's trying to lure me into their vehicles. Sometimes groups of men. I have a huge distrust of people around children, many can be manipulative and use familiarity with the parents to get access.
You are doing a great job being aware of predatory behaviors, just be sure you are talking to your child about predators and the tricks they use to manipulate the vulnerable. It's nice you get to walk her to school but predators are everywhere and you want her to be knowledgeable about following her intuition, what to do if she's approached or touched. Children need to know what to do if something happens when you're not there.
The Jessica Ridgeway case is one that hits really close to home. I went to Witt Elementary the year before, I walked that park everyday going home from school with friends. I went to the middle school just down the street at the time. I was no longer allowed to walk home because my parents feared for my safety. My best friend lived adjacent from Austin, but didn't know him personally. This case hits far to close to home, and it still bothers my parents to this day. It could have easily been me or my siblings. Thanks for the video, Jessica deserves to be remembered.
He can afford some good health insurance, unless he’s based in Europe, then he’s just getting it for free and raking in tons of cash from his successful channel. 🤙
@@ian12346 Depends, it's not entirely free everywhere in Europe, in some places it comes with additional monthly fees so that you can actually get the services and medication without additional charges on the spot. We call it ''additional health insurance'' here and that still doesn't actually cover every single thing. Free also doesn't mean that it's good. Speaking for where I'm from, the waiting time for seeing a psychiatrist can take 1 year or more. Similar waiting times go for other examinations. Basically, preventive healthcare isn't working as well as it should, but atleast having a critical emergency doesn't break the bank.
I was a freshman in high school when this happened in my city. It felt surreal, such a murder taking place so close to home. My church prayed with her mother and made food for her, my school had the students wear purple in Jessica’s honor, heck, my cousin even babysat her! My little sister had a childhood friend who lived in that neighborhood. Parents, especially, were effected by her murder. I remember my mom sobbing into my dad’s chest, begging God to find who killed Jessica. Well, they found him. Everyone celebrated - some teachers even dancing on tables in their enthusiasm. But, everyone expected some 40 year old creep who preyed on children, not some teenager who was so messed up in the head. I remember wondering what this guy was like, and thank you for covering this case. Jessica deserves to be immortalize, not her murderer.
I remember hearing about this as a kid and everyday after school coming home asking my parents if they found her until they found the body. It was really sad, Rest In Peace 🙏
I love how he was taken aback by the questions from the 911 operator. Obviously meant to not imply anything that could escalate his mood. But he was like. Yo, I killed this kid. Just send some cops ok? O_o I'm sure operators don't get a lot of calls like that. How could he plead not guilty after that 911 call. Diminished capacity or something? Unreal. What a total monster.
He wasn't taken aback. He thought what business is it of yours..I want the police to come to my house so I can confess, I'm not gonna talk to a person who answers phone and passes on messages! Dead right. I hate the way they always act like they are the investigators. Is it even their job to ask questions that don't impeed the police going to the address.
@@Marie.b Operators keep them talking while police are on their way. They're supposed to be chatty to distract the person. And plus they can get recorded confessions then if they decide to clam up with police.
@@talkichik supposed to or not I still hate it. I think it goes beyond what is required of an emergency phone operator. And they are used like you said, to get more information, sneakily, before the person is informed of their rights or legally represented.
I think it's almost a "base rule" of lawyers to tell their client not to plead non-guilty even if it's obvious the person did it. The guy even reported himself, gave all the information they wanted, etc., it'd make no sense if he had decided by himself to suddenly back out on that. So it was probably someone else's idea, and in those cases it's usually the lawyer's. You'd be surprised how disturbing lawyers who accept to defend a criminal could be. Some even try to shame or blame the victim(s).
I just ran across your channel a couple of weeks ago,I absolutely love it. Your voice is captivating and your a great story teller. I'm absolutely hooked on the way you research every case and have so many details about said cases. Keep up the good work Adrian 💙

Often listen to this criminal cases and while many of them are deeply disturbing, this caught me off guard and has disturbed me on a different level. I'm so sorry for that family and everyone who has been involved in this. Especially for Jessica.
This is the first one of your videos that I just can not force myself to finish. Once they discovered the body, I got emotional and had to stop it. What a horrifying story.
What's the deal with his mother? Zip tying each other. Sharing a bed. After puberty, a son sleeping with his mother a bit taboo. At 17 it's totally creepy.
I don't exactly think sleeping (in the most innocent way possible of course) with your parent is too odd, not like cuddling or kissing. Happening to be laying close to someone while sleeping isn't sexual, I hope my daughter feels close enough to me to still be affectionate and want to be around me as a teenager. In this case I do feel like maybe they had more going on, his sexual interests as well as the overtly-close relationship with his mom, usually killers who go on to sexually assault victims were molested as a child, kind of gives off vibes like his mom was grooming him his whole life.
Thank you so much for covering this. I went to the same school and lived just down the street from Jessica. It was a horrific time and so traumatizing for it to happen so close. Great coverage of the details as well, I’m sure they weren’t easy to come by.
I’m surprised no one saw her being abducted. At 8.30am people are out getting to work or school. Or that no one’s doorbell camera or similar picked it up. So, so awful and completely unforeseeable. A ten-year old walking to school with a friend is reasonable in a decent neighborhood. Thank god this guy handed himself in.
People didn't have doorbell cameras and home CCTV wasn't common in 2012. It is surprising nobody heard her screams but it's possible she happened to be on a block where everyone works early shifts or he muffled her extremely quickly. Imagining her last hours is absolutely gutwrenching to think about...
@@Bckgroundguy101 I’m not sure why you are saying that to me, I didn’t even say anything about children walking to school or anything about parents letting them do it in the first place. This has to be one of the most horrific crimes I’ve ever heard of. What this poor little girl went through in her final hours must have been terrifying. It’s just absolutely heartbreaking 😥 RIP little Jessica 💞
This is absolutely heartbreaking and horrifying. I was shocked, disgusted and mortified when it was revealed that the “sack of shit” Austin had SA & dismembered a 10 year old girl. That’s beyond psychotic, that is out right EVIL! I hope Austin rots in whatever cell he’s in and rots in hell for eternity for what he did. As for poor young Jessica, taken way too soon. I look at Jessica's sweet face, her incredible sparkling blue eyes, and wonder how could anyone terrorize and murder that innocent child. She's the same age as many of the child victims in the Uvalde massacre, and my heart is broken that this world can be such a dark place for children. May Jessica Ridgeway, and all the victims in Uvalde, rest in peace. 💔

@@Sanic55 agreed. The case that really upset me was the Chris Watts family murder. That man had everything beautiful wife, two beautiful daughters, nice house, good job and he killed his entire family for a life with another women. How he killed his own kids then dumped their bodies into the oil tanks is just pure evil...then he buried his wife in a shallow grave. What made him think he was going too get away with it is anyone's guess?
I have some family that lives in Colorado springs. They heard some noise in their house a few nights ago, he went upstairs to see what it was and there was a man with a machete standing in their kids bedroom. He was able to get the weapon away from him and got the man arrested. He received a pretty good cut on his hand. Colorado can be a scary place.
Firstly, as usual, Adrian you did an excellent job of telling this video. I know this is going to sound silly considering it’s not an important part of the story, but I was very aggravated listening to the 911 dispatcher. I’ve worked as a 911 dispatcher and I was also a police officer for thirteen years. I don’t know when police departments started allowing these dispatchers to question a suspect or the party reporting to this degree. They’re supposed to get details of what’s going on at that moment to relay to police. Dispatchers are not detectives, and they’re certainly not trained to question suspects. This was a truly sad and horrific thing that happened to Jessica. May she Rest In Peace.
She was keeping him engaged and gathering details while officers were dispatched. The call went on about another 10 mins before the cops got there. The best thing to do was to keep him talking and get as much information from him as possible until the cops get there, that way they know he's still there, that he's calm and that he's not going to resist arrest.
She’s keeping him at that phone until the police can take over. A lot can happen in the few minutes until the cops arrive, it’s be much more damaging to the investigations if the suspect flees or harms themselves/others.
omg me too!!! i was a DISPATCHER not a DETECTIVE…i could hardly believe her line of questioning and she didn’t ONCE think to ask did they know FOR SURE she was DEAD!! little girl COULD have been alive in the crawl space….BAD DISPATCH 💯
It is eerie seeing you cover this because I was in HS when this happened. I know and have been to the areas that were talked about in the video and seeing the news when it was on TV. I remember when they found her body and it was what everyone was talking about in school since this kind of thing never happened in our neck of the woods.
As someone who has lived in Colorado practically my whole life (since I was 3 in 2002), and someone who is interested in crime cases. I'm surprised to have never heard of this case. Thank you for covering it and sharing Jessica's story.
I've watched every single video on Coffeehouse Crime but this one hit me in a place that no other has. This was extremely hard to sit through and I, like everyone else, am heartbroken after hearing what happened to this little girl. Rest in peace Jessica.
30 years ago when my child began school she never went or left school without me taking and picking up. If she did not appear to car at scheduled time I was on the move. I think it happened once. She made sure she informed me of any deviations or I would be in a state. Kids need protection. No blame here. We all do what we can.
@@DwynTwo children shouldn’t walk alone. Too many weirdos. Especially as a young girl or woman, we have to stay alert and ready. I live out in the yeehaw, so I couldn’t walk to school anyway. I always walked down the backroads with my siblings for fun tho and kept a weapon on me at all times bc no is should be trusted too much. Teach children to be vigilant and know the signs of danger. If I were a parent living in the city, I wouldn’t let my young daughter walk alone. At LEAST walk with them until they’re accompanied by the friend to continue walk. You can “waste” 20 mins of sleep for peace of mind that your child is safe. I believe kids are more vigilant nowadays than back then.

One thing that wasn't mentioned in this video is that he was already under suspicion and had been brought in for fingerprinting & DNA because a few of his neighbors had called in and said that he should be looked into in connection with the murder. So I wonder if he would have turned himself in if he wasn't already being looked at.

She also didn't hesitate to have zip tie practice with him. Just saying.
I live in the neighborhood adjacent to hers, and was in high school not too far away when it happened.

But I'm truly sorry you feel this way. My guess is something personnel happened to you. I could be wrong. But I'm glad you're somewhere that makes you feel safe & happy now.

He was trying to affirm his own sickness

Agreed but a correction for the typo you made: it’s whiter not wider community.

I mean yeah if you ignore all the weird borderline incest
She took him to a cult leader when he was found with kid po Rn, idiots
Relentless bullying creates monsters.

When I first started college I was still living with my parents. We had a neighbor who also worked nights and would come home just in time to wake up her son and help him get ready for school. Then she would send him over to us to ask us to take him. It was only a mile and I thought the whole thing was a massive imposition. We usually, in forensic, criminal psychology, speak about high, middle or low risk victims.

Why do people praise the dispatcher all the time? They are paid to receive calls and sound monotone. In this instance, she sounded almost bored and impatient.
@@KenLinx 🤨
@@KenLinx did we hear the same call?
At most, I’d say she sounded mildly like a valley girl- but that’s it. 🤨
It sounded like he didn't have any inclination to go anywhere.
Good ☆
And he'll also spend his sentence reading, relaxing and watching TV with people just like him.
In "protective custody"
Was going to mention this, he will be used&abused constantly, I hope he lives in utter torment for the restof his pathetic existence, it's only fitting for such a monster
Exactly, he will do life in solitary, wishing he got the death penalty.
I lived in westminster during this case, I had two young elementary school aged siblings. It was terrifying, gruesome, and absolutely shocking for this to have happened.
Thanks for making these Adrian! It’s really nice to have a warm and compassionate host narrate these stories.
As a parent this is my worst nightmare. My heart goes out to her family I hope they manage to heal.
This happened about ten minutes from me. I was in highschool at the time, and I remember following the case very closely. It was insane.
I keep watching these out of just pure curiosity and damn every time I just feel my heart break for these poor victims.
May God protect you and your child.
I really hope you have someone to talk too about these cases you share with us. Please remember to look after yourself as well.
He can afford some good health insurance, unless he’s based in Europe, then he’s just getting it for free and raking in tons of cash from his successful channel. 🤙
@@ian12346 just cuz it’s free doesn’t mean it’s good or easily accessible. I should know 💀
@@ian12346 Depends, it's not entirely free everywhere in Europe, in some places it comes with additional monthly fees so that you can actually get the services and medication without additional charges on the spot.
Good morning Adrian,
Thank you for another wonderfully presented case. Lots of background, facts and empathy given in your unique style.
I remember hearing about this as a kid and everyday after school coming home asking my parents if they found her until they found the body. It was really sad, Rest In Peace 🙏
so you walked home too?
@@Marie.b you wouldn’t want a murderer to dip on out while police is in transit would you?
I just ran across your channel a couple of weeks ago,I absolutely love it. Your voice is captivating and your a great story teller. I'm absolutely hooked on the way you research every case and have so many details about said cases. Keep up the good work Adrian 💙
You do such a good job at telling these stories.
Just randomly found your channel and glad I did - you're easy to listen to and have great storytelling abilities. Thanks!
Watching from Athens Greece ! Stay safe everyone. This is just unfathomable can’t wrap my head around it, monsters like him should not be protected in prison!
Often listen to this criminal cases and while many of them are deeply disturbing, this caught me off guard and has disturbed me on a different level. I'm so sorry for that family and everyone who has been involved in this. Especially for Jessica.
Same age as my daughter, who’s now a sophomore in college. This is heartbreaking.
I still sleep with my mother sometimes, it's mostly a cultural thing
And they were both so rude to the 911 operator. And for what???
The first doorbell camera wasn’t even a thing back in 2012. It wasn’t until 2013 that Doorbot (now Ring) was first introduced on Shark Tank.
Nah children should not be walking alone. Be better parents and this is less likely to happen
@@Bckgroundguy101
I’m not sure why you are saying that to me, I didn’t even say anything about children walking to school or anything about parents letting them do it in the first place.
But I walked to & from school in the 7th grade (2003) I was 13. So just because some parents allow their children to walk to & from school doesn’t instantly deem them as bad parent. Don’t be so judgmental.
@@I_Stay_4_SKZ What makes you think they were replying to you?
Wow Adrian your presentation of your channel just keeps improving with every story. You are very welcoming and engaging, your stories well researched and given to us with the utmost respect to the victims. Thank you for all the work and care you put into these tragic stories
This has to be one of the most horrific crimes I’ve ever heard of. What this poor little girl went through in her final hours must have been terrifying. It’s just absolutely heartbreaking 😥 RIP little Jessica 💞
I appreciate that you end your videos on a note about the victim. Remembering and honoring their life and memory.
Thank you for remembering Jessica. You’re right, we tend to forget about the victims in these horrendous stories.
Rest in Peace Kiddo.
And condolences to her family and friends. I can’t imagine the horror & heartbreak of losing a child in such a brutal, callous manner. 😔💜
😢😢😢 so disgusting hoe evil a person can be
The only good thing I can say about Austin is he turned hinself in before doing it again and again.
Tbh if any inmates find out what he did no matter what prison hes in he will be killed fairly quickly he wont live that long in prison
Agreed. How you could kill a innocent child is just beyond me?!
@@matty6848 that's what makes us so much different from them mindset wise and emotionally. To us that's an absurd thing to do, but to people like him its seen as completely normal. It truly is disgusting
Oh my gosh, hearing what he did to her poor body is awful. How can you do that to a child
Thats exactly what she did tho?
She was keeping him engaged and gathering details while officers were dispatched. The call went on about another 10 mins before the cops got there. The best thing to do was to keep him talking and get as much information from him as possible until the cops get there, that way they know he's still there, that he's calm and that he's not going to resist arrest.
She’s keeping him at that phone until the police can take over. A lot can happen in the few minutes until the cops arrive, it’s be much more damaging to the investigations if the suspect flees or harms themselves/others.
I thought it was amazing how she managed to remain calm AND sound sympathetic to him.
omg me too!!! i was a DISPATCHER not a DETECTIVE…i could hardly believe her line of questioning and she didn’t ONCE think to ask did they know FOR SURE she was DEAD!! little girl COULD have been alive in the crawl space….BAD DISPATCH 💯
It is eerie seeing you cover this because I was in HS when this happened. I know and have been to the areas that were talked about in the video and seeing the news when it was on TV. I remember when they found her body and it was what everyone was talking about in school since this kind of thing never happened in our neck of the woods.
The sudden drop of formality in the narration when "sack of shit" was used really hit hard. A very difficult video to watch but well made as usual.
This is extremely rare.
Everyone thinks it won’t happen to them.
Boy, I'm glad my parents let me have the freedom of walking to school myself like literally every other child my age
Glad I was raised in a village and not a town
Since so many of these cases have been on the news, I am hoping young generations become more smarter and less of this happens
Love, love, love your channel Adrian! You have become my favorite true crime RUclipsr ever since I stumbled upon your channel. You are an excellent story teller and very compassionate and respectful towards all the victims and their families.
As usual great case coverage. I am a Colorado native and this case shook me as this is my front yard. It was shocking that the killer was little more than a boy himself. The whole thing was very hard for the entire city. 💙
