Never, ever in my DIY internet problem solving video watching life have I come across a video that exactly and precisely and COMPLETELY solved my problem absolutely perfectly. I followed your simple instructions and I was back in business in 5 minutes. BEST VIDEO EVER if your flame sensor is dirty and your hot water heater is busted and your repairman wants $200 to take a look at it and by the way, he won't come by until tomorrow. THANK YOU!

This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).

Nailed it! We have not had hot water consistently for weeks now, and for the last few days, we have not been able to get it to start at all. After watching your video, it took less than five minutes to remove the burner and use the sandpaper grits to clean the hickey, and now she is running like nothing was wrong. BIG THANK YOU for posting this! Our Family of Five plus Grandpa appreciates you!

I really appreciate your video. I have a home owner's warranty. They sent a guy out and he said I needed a whole new water heater. After arguing for a day about the cost of the replacement, I decided to look at it myself. (I all a do it yourself guy, but I figured I'd let the warranty handle it). I followed your directions and the heater is fixed. Literally 15min and no more grief. Thank you. This was the best Father's Day present yet!

Thank you so much for this video. I have a State/A O Smith water heater that was doing the same thing you described. After one cold shower I got on youtube and found your video. 20 minutes later the water heater is fixed with no parts needing replacing and the water is already heating back up. I was prepared to replace the heater because it is 19 years old but now it is working fine. You saved me at least $1K but probably more like $2K. Thanks!

Thank You ! I have the exact water heater with the exact problem. You just saved me approx $2000.000 . I’m a retired general, plumbing and flooring contractor. Because of heavy lifting throughout the 45 years working in the trades, I have sever spinal cord damage. There are many things I can’t do anymore which leaves me at the mercy of trades people who would rather replace than repair and help people. I was able to manage this maintenance repair by myself. It helped that you happen to have demonstrated on my exact water heater. Thank you so much. It’s good to know there are honest tradesmen still out there. Please excuse the grammar and punctuation errors if any. I’m an old guy.

I searched the web for a solution to my Intelli-Vent issue a year ago. I thought it was a wiring problem up near the vent because it was intermittent and fiddling with the wires could get it running for a couple of days more. This time I'm very glad I saw your video. I'm pretty sure my problem is solved, at least until the sensor needs cleaning again in a few years. I can't thank you enough. Thank you for making this video.

I just paid a plumber $54 dollars to diagnose and clean my unit due to the exact problem you described. The price is very low due to a coupon but the unit started doing the same thing 24 hours after he came. I was complaining if you want anything done right do it yourself. So I went online and Googled the problem and found your video. Ironically watching it took longer then the actual repair :). The unit is working perfectly! TYVM!

Just wanted to say thank you for this video! It described my problem exactly. The extent of my trouble shooting knowledge was to unplug it and plug it back in (I'm a woman). When that failed, I called my very handy dad and brother, who both have electric heaters. They were at a loss as to how to help. Your video gave me the instructions, and after 10 minutes and not even having a wrench, I was successful!! As another commenter said, the nut for my gas pipe was also backwards, but everything else went smoothly. I'm no longer "just a girl." Thanks again!

Dude, you just saved me days of cold showers and $150. Minimum for a service call, not to mention unnecessary parts they probably would have put in it for nothing. My water heater is 9 years old and this is the first time it gave me problems. I could hear it kick on and off in the living room yesterday and didn't think much about it until i got home from work to take a cold shower. It took me all of 15 minutes tops and it kicked in and stayed on. That sensor didn't even really look bad at all but it must have been just enough. I thank you a million times over. You are my new HERO! 😊

I am so thankful that you created this video...it is 6:30pm on Christmas Eve and family is coming over in under an hour and we just discovered that we no longer have hot water.... I had this same problem with my AO Smith Water Heater about 5 years ago. Back then, I hired a vendor to solve this and they explained this exact process as they solved the problem. Five years later I wanted to review the process and Wow!!! your tutorial matched the issue and the process and indeed this solved my problem and a Christmas Eve disaster without hot water and a family gathering in just over an hour. Thanks Michael!
Just for safety's sake, you should leave the area around your furnace and water heater clear. Guests or no guests :)

Amid the Coronavirus lockdown, we are on a wait list for service. Using your guidance, we were able to fix this ourselves. We have this problem happen at least once a year - always the same issue. Thank you soooooooooo much! Be well!

Wasn't sure if the heater control or the flame rod was bad and did a search for the controller and found this video. Cleaned up the flame rod per your instructions and the unit is now working again. Thanks. Looks like I owe you a beer...

Add me to the list of happy DIY'ers that fixed their water heater with this method. Pulled out the flame sensor, sanded it clean and shiny, and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the help!!

Thank you very much for posting this video! You've saved me money and helped me have a greater understanding of this electronic module. I moved into my new home a month ago and this exact problem started happening 3 days ago. It's never a great feeling when problems start developing in a home you just moved into. Thank you for your help once again!

Thank you so much! I have been experiencing intermittent hot water for months now and this seems to have solved the problem. Very appreciative to the people who take the time to post these instructional videos. Not sure how much longer my hot water tank will last (going on 9 years now) but this certainly saved me a ton of money in the short term.

Even at the appliance store they tell me the new ones don't last as long as the old ones.... You know, planned obsolescence... Just one more thing that they can GET you on...

Thanks for the video. My AO Smith 75 gal unit was slightly different than the one shown but the trick worked perfectly and it fired right up and stayed running. Like others have commented, we've had repair men out 3 times to replace that sensor, burners, control unit and this problem keeps reoccurring even though it's only 4 years old.

Thank you so much!! I woke up to a cold shower this morning. Found this video while at work, came home and followed your directions and the water heater started right up as you said. My igniter was pretty clean but there was a lot of debris laying on top of the burner. Hopefully I will have a warm shower tomorrow. Thanks again
