Thanks man, i needed that. I got a 1200 a couple of weeks ago and have already opened it up countless times. The weirdest thing is the floppy drive that seemed fine for a couple of days and now it won't read disks. I've checked all the connections, given it several passes with a floppy cleaner disk so i guess my next step is taking it apart and giving it a thorough clean. Learning maintenance the hard way. On the plus side having had PCs for 25 years now I'm used to opening up cases and connecting and disconnecting components, so i'm slightly less intimidated than I would have been in the 90s when I had an A600 and no clue about hardware.
So I spent this morning giving it a very deep clean, using several q-tip cotton buds, disk cleaning fluid, a magnifying glass and my phone light. You would not believe the amount of filth that came off. Or maybe you would! It did the trick though, it seems to be working nicely. For now at least. The adventure continues...
The more upgrades you put in this the more like Ziggy from Quantum Leap they get! Every time I put my Big Box Amiga in the car, every card needs reseating. Ribbon cables degrade. It's sad but everything dies over time.
True! However my particular 3000 was ruined by an exploded battery. So the one you see, while it does use all original chips, sans ram, is an Re:Amiga 3000 board. I have an entire playlist of that adventure. ;)
I grew up with the Amiga. Programmed for the Amiga. I know the hardware inside and out. Now I can never own one again because of ' retro collectors' driving up prices. Most don't even know how the system works and never owned one before - they've just got more money than me.
It’s true. I had an a500, a3000, and an a4000 back in the day. Throughout the years later. I sold and bought and did mild refurbs of Amigas without much thought as prices were low, availability high. Then around 2017 things started getting weird. Then of course the BUG hit and turned Amiga “collecting” on its head. Prices skyrocketed, availability became harder. I’m lucky that most of my Amiga’s came before that. However a couple are post the spike. It took a lot of patience and some luck to get them for reasonable prices.
I have stopped buying old hardware - it just takes up to much time maintaining, when emulation has been so good for so many years. I mainly play the old games, and not using it for any other than that anyway. Especially PC-stuff are prone to breaking in a million ways, but pc-em is THAT good, so i haven't turned any original hardware up the last year anyway - so I'm moving little by little away from OG hardware. Just too much hassle and too time consuming, when emulation just works so great out of the box.
Hello Kevin, I just created a 54 seconds video titled "Croissant vs Voyager Star Trek", it would make me so happy to have some feedback from you 🙂 And also, would you mind sharing how the "shield" effect was done? Thanks :D
Shield effects like weapons fx were done in post by another company. Later in other shows, it’s simply an oblong sphere that we’d add some color too. then use a falloff effect to fade it in s circle.
Like i always say 1200 and 3000 is last the best commodore amigas ever maked.4000 pc clone is just slow big joke and poor attempt to commodore catch new pc machines what was came in this time. Even in this video show how 4000 boot slow comparing to 3000 and 1200.I have 4000 T and is pure crap so i give up of this one and now is used like expensive support for my book shelf and doing this job perfect.:)My trusty and definitely the most reliable amiga 1200A still fly like rocket with fast boot and extradentary good stability and newer fail me is no matter how long stay power off. Amiga 4000 is like old commodore 128 just another fail of commodore company. The last and the best desktop amiga is 3000 and prove this any time.1200 is really pleasant and powerful AGA AIO machine what can be easy upgraded and can be pushed in range of modern windows /Linux pc machines. For machine what is over 40 years old now that is like magic. 20 years ago when i buy my amiga 1200A i newer believe to this machine will be still work and useful even in modern days .That is really true magic of Amiga .
Have you taken all your chips out, sprayed the sockets with contact cleaner, most of the time it's just crud on the chips and sockets. Remember the old saying, If you don't use it you lose it. Take care. 😀
You might be new to the channel, welcome. Mr. Q is well versed and has hundreds of videos troubleshooting Amigas and working with Dr. Chris Edwards here on RUclips repairing them.

Exactly what I went through. Retro adventuring. heh

@@daren42 there ya go!
'thorough cleaning'= rabbit hole ALWAYS in Amiga land 😉
I tell ya that nothing is right in my house when my Amiga isn't working right but oh the joy when its up and running fine again❤
You got that right!
Just boot up THEA500 Mini and pray for the strength and perseverance to put the real Amiga right...on a suitably rainy day!
Thanks true statement about the Amiga family they getting older.
Old friends….
Happens to all of us.
Just spotted the "Battlehawks 1942" case. I spent so many hours playing that awesome game!
Yeah it’s one of the greats!
Interceptor, Arcticfox and Skyfox original, I envy you! 😃 The Arcticfox art is so futuristic and beautiful. Thank you very much and have a great day!
My pleasure!
After my A2000s were finished, they were put into a 19" rack with other gear, and left alone.

haha that’s a good comparison!
Because Dave Haynie built the A3000- it boots religiously!

Enjoy watching your videos
Glad you like them!
Sounds like you need Dr Chris to build you an ACILLL 4000 board! OMG a video NOT about emulation.
Finally! EMU FREE!! Dr.Chris will be happy too. :)

Hi, that noctua fan is supposed to suck the heat or blow...?
Please look at the stream direction of the fan, thank you.
always exhaust in Amiga. Always pull air out and through.
Is that 3000 on your desk the ReAmiga project that had so many false starts?
YES.

@@HoldandModify With animated texture? Do you still remember the noise generator, was it perlin noise or?
@@BracerJack sorry I don’t. Probably a simple fractal noise with falloff.
