The Speedmaster Moonwatch is one of the world’s most iconic timepieces. Having been a part of all six moon landings, the legendary chronograph is an impressive representation of the brand’s adventurous pioneering spirit.
Presented on a polished-brushed five-arched-links-per-row bracelet, this 42 mm Moonwatch in stainless steel features sapphire crystal glass on the front as well as on the caseback. Inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster style worn on the moon, it also includes an asymmetrical case, black step dial with applied OMEGA logo and the famous dot over 90 on the anodised aluminium bezel ring.
The watch is driven by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, which powers the small seconds sub-dial, 30-minute recorder and 12-hour recorder, along with the central chronograph function.
Do you prefer the Hesalite or Sapphire version of the Moonwatch?
Hesalite all the way. Bought the 2021 Hesalite a couple of months ago, and it has barely left my wrist. Ther's nothing wrong with the Sapphire version, but I just enjoy the vintage feel of that acrylic crystal. It reminds me of wearing a Rolex 5513 or 5512. I've put it on a Tropic style rubber for the summer, and it's not too shabby, I think. imgur.com/1E9zMGR

@@TheLumeRoom The man himself. Great pics on your Instagram, very nice collection. Yes, the updated Speedmaster (Up)ticks all the boxes. I do like the sapphire version too, which is probably a bit more practical in daily life for most people, and I definitely wish the hesalite had the applied logo as well. That being said, I took it to the gym a couple of times, pass it under fresh running water most days to get rid of perspiration, and it performs flawlessly. Every couple of weeks, buffing the crystal a few minutes with Polywatch turns it back to new, so it's still very usable as a daily wearer. When going anywhere near the sea, though, it's the Sinn U50.

Sapphire for me. I am a huge fan of vintage watches but I just could not justify giving up viewing the legendary Lemania based movement.

I opted, most certainly for the Hesalite version just recently. It is the Moon Watch, tested and abused for science before it was accepted for duty in space because of the nature of acrylic. The bods at NASA specifically chose Hesalite over glass or sapphire for the reasons they stated, so in essence it is the only true to function version. I don’t mind the sapphire sandwich, but it is simply not an original moon watch to me. Enjoy wearing and owning this piece. I watched Armstrong step onto the moon’s surface in July 1969, and that forever shaped my life. It was important to me to have Hesalite for that reason. I waited 53 years to buy mine. :)
Congrats and certainly sounds like the hesalite is fitting for yourself, plus I agree it's closer to the original in terms of materials. The sapphire suits my lifestyle better and probably fair to call it the more modern interpretation. No wrong answers though and good that we are given options.
100%, the hesalite version is certified, the sapphire sandwich isn't and should be treated as a separate line of watches like the racing. There is only 1 space qualified speedy ;)... Also, the hesalite version doesn't have that milky ring that the sapphire has.
Unless you have a calibre 321 as in the original Moonwatches, you still don’t have an “original”, Hesalite or not.
I can FEEL your excitement man! I have felt it in pretty much every single one of the 300 odd luxury watches I've bought in my 11 years in this hobby. Watches are history, emotion, engineering, art, tools, and special things in Human evolution.

A small but important detail....paging through the booklet you showed a picture of Apollo 11 but referred to it as the "Space Shuttle"!🙃

I am olaning on getting that model myself, and hopefully later I will get my hands on the Submariner. I visited the A.D. yesterday to try the Speedmaster. And i am surprised how it doesn't wear like a large watch, just as you pointed out. And the bracelet feels, to quote Ned Flanders "like I'm wearing nothing at all".
It's an amazing all-around package. The bracelet is so comfortable and is one of the best that Omega produces.
Love it, I tied at the store last week and fits perfectly on my 7 1/2' wrist. Also to mention the bracelet feels so smooth (Jubilee alike) much better feeling than the larger versions or the other diver's models
It really does wear well. The bracelet is top class! Great for every collection
We are on the same boat :) I always wanted an Omega Aqua Terra or SMP Diver 300 before 2021. I simply thought of the speedy as a cool watch popular among enthusiasts. But after the new one came out I knew my next watch had to be this one. Hopefully will get one for myself soon.

I'm really liking the speedmaster I've got the gmt batman and was lucky enough to buy before prices went through the roof and was wanting a chronograph,was looking at the daytona but prices just gone to stupid,the speedmaster sapphire sandwich is definitely on my radar now,beautiful piece

I own the 1863 Sapphire Sandwich since July 2020 and absolutely love it.
Have been sorely tempted to upgrade to the new 3861 however, my AD had helped changed my plans when l got the call to purchase a Submariner 124060 and then 3 weeks later, l was allocated the Tudor Pelagos FXD 😁

I am lucky to have a Rolex Sub and Milgauss blue and bought this exact piece last week, and I must say this is a beautiful watch. It’s my first Omega and so glad I got this,and attracts a lot of compliments too. The bracelet and clasp is so nice and when you view the dial in different angles, it turns light grey. Look forward to see the Chronoscope, 👍🏼

A few ADs gave no movement but I eventually found one willing to negotiate. Don't be scared to ask and then move on! A collection video is a good idea actually 👍🏻
Because the bezel diameter is actually 39.7mm so it looks like a 40. the crown guard makes it a 42mm case

Stunning watch, I'm pulling the trigger in a few months when I turn 24. Going to be my first proper watch. However I am unsure about the Hesalite as I am slightly OCD about scratches. I am aware there is Polywatch but still haha. Did you get any sort of discount on this from the AD?

You should have mentioned that the reason why it doesn't look that big is because the 42mm measurement includes the crown and pusher protection bump on the side.
If you only measure the bezel, it's a hair under 40mm.

@@TheLumeRoom Yes I saw, not a lot, I think this is due to the current supply and demand issue, plenty of ex Rolex buyers are pouring money elsewhere. I literally walked in premier Rolex AD in So Cal mall, they only had some pieces in the window and one single Sky Dweller in gold inside store. Every display case is empty. Back to the Moon Watch, I will wait a bit until production is caught up so I can get at least 20 to 25% off from a grey market dealer. As is it's a beautiful watch but Omega as beautiful as they are do not keep value well at all. So I think discount would get way better in 4 to 6 months when the current crazy overpaying frenzy on everything dies down. But I could be completely wrong. :(

What’s this peripheral haziness with the sapphire crystal some mention? Is it that noticeable on this newer version? I haven’t noticed this on my other watches with sapphire crystals.

IWC has certainly went up in my estimation but if you want a lifelong icon on your wrist, the Speedy has it all

Good questions! No, the bezel insert is aluminium. Yes, for the first time the movement hacks.

8:00 For all practical purposes, the watch is indeed only 40 mm. It is 42 mm wide only when you add the slight asymmetrical bulge on the right-hand side of the case that functions as a discreet crown guard. When you look at the diameter of the bezel, it's 40 mm. This is not a big watch at all, not in today's watch culture. The revamped shape of the lugs, the shortened end links, and the shaving of 1 mm from the thickness all mean that this watch wears rather compact on most male wrists.

You can probably shower with it but I wouldn't recommend much more

Actually under the META certification standards it include water resistance testing and its true to 50Meters so you could swim with it and it would be okay. Obviously no diving, but wouldn't recommend swimming with it if you don't need to

It's fractionally slimmer than the old model
It's actually thinner and wear very much slimmer than the 1861 that's why I was finally able to get a speedmaster professional after waiting for a long time. Glad they came out with the 3861! 🙂
Whats the point of having Just One glove on?
So the watch remains fingerprint free for the viewers but I can also easily manipulate the crown or camera with my non gloved hand
How accurate does the watch keep time?
Within a few seconds a day. It's extremely accurate.
@@TheLumeRoom how often do you have to recalibrate the time? I recently bought a Hamilton manual and I didn't realize how inaccurate it was if I didn't recalibrate it every week or keep it constantly wound even though it has 80 hr spring life. I have wound it around every 8 hrs to keep it accurate.

I have the sapphire version. I have big wrists, and I find the watch 'heavy' in that it shifts on my wrist, left to right and downwards. ANNOYING! I've adjusted the metal bracelet but it makes no difference. I've just purchased the Zululdiver Lunar watch strap in the hope this makes a difference otherwise its spoiling my love for the watch.

What’s the purpose of hiding the serial number?
It helps with my paranoid personality disorder
I don’t know why anyone wears below their wrist bone, links stretch out, it gets in the way when you bend your wrist, the crowns and pushers dig in. I have an Alpina Chronograph with massive pushers and crown and it has to be worn above the wrist bone, looks less sloppy that way also.

I bought a Movado Luno Sport and with my 7 inch wrists it fits between the links, it’s either too tight or too loose and Movado does not have true “half links” they are more like 3/4 links compared to the full sized links so it’s just annoying.

Brand New METAS Certified Chronometer, Hacking, 15000 Gauss Anti Magnetic, Beautiful Bracelet, Different Case Design and more Dial Detail to name features even non moonwatch fanatics can agree upon making it that much better a watch for well into the future.
And I’m sure the current prices of 1861 will go down once Omega’s stupid price hike for their older speedys goes away with their old stock being exhausted.
They need to raise prices otherwise ppl won't like them. It is after all, still a veblen good.

Let’s be honest for one second, no one would go for the speedmaster if they were VIP enough in their city to get a Daytona from an AD. That’s my main gripe with this watch, it’s just perceived as the Daytona substitute.
The Daytona looks a lot better, the wrist presence of a Daytona is just out of this world, has the better movement, better quality, better brand recognition and ……..better resale(…)
7k for a mid-tier at best brand with manual winding because of astronaut shenanigans is too much.

I agree the Daytona is the better watch. Have the black DaytonaC and the 3861 Speedmaster.
However, the Speedmaster has the better movement.

The speedmaster professional is an emotional watch. There something romantic even by the way it looks and wears on the wrist. The Daytona is nice but too showy.
The king of Netherlands and King of Spain have speedmaster professionals , Joe Biden too and many vip billionaires....you can check this. I doubt they cannot get their hands on a Daytona.
3 of my friends who have Daytona's are waiting for their 3861's.
