    A saw a British show on hoarders. One of the antique experts summarized the difference between "hoarders" & "collectors".
    He said collectors are organized, they put together "like with like".
    They put place things in a way that honours what they are displaying.
    They are involved in the socail aspect in their collections--other people that have the same enthusiasm. Not sure if everyone would agree with that but I thought it was quite interesting.

One of the professional team took him to visit a true collector who had his records and memorabilia displayed on shelves and cabinets. The hoarder was so impressed that he ended up with a similar system and got rid of heaps of junk. And then he had the space to actually play the records. He was totally chuffed.

It’s interesting to see, I agree, when many other people can’t seem to even find a date ....and they make every effort to put forth their best selves to present both in their physical person and in their living space ... and are employed, with interests etc . It is fascinating.

    This show really does help me not to hoard. I totally see how people can collect things that they remember from "happy" times.
    I've done it and had "collected" a lot after losing 4 close family members, a family home in the 2008 recession and then everything I had left by an abusive ex. Doing exceptionally well now and just purchased a home that I am just so in love with. Current economical times certainly scare me after 2008 and I have to tell myself to take a deep breath. And I've also had to check myself numerous times when on Marketplace for wanting to pick up things I don't exactly need or have room for. It just reminds me of someone or place or time that has passed by.
    I often watch this show for motivation to purge and dust. Thanks to this show, even my baseboard are shiny today. Filled a 25ft dumpster full before we moved and it felt amazing 👏.

    After watching a number of these here on RUclips, it seems to me that the common hurdle so many hoarders can't get past is that just because something is or could be useful, that doesn't mean it's worth the space it's taking up.

      I swear that’s me and my brother. We did something exactly like this yesterday since we had an empty bookcase but everything he had a beverage he put it on there instead of tossing it out so I walked in his room yesterday to see 500 empty water bottles and soda cans and he’s completely unbothered sleeping next to it like it’s not there. When people are hoarders or just “messy” you realize how they see things. If you go into a room and see something on the floor a normal person would prob pick it up instead of just walking over it without even looking down or sweeping around a chair instead of moving it

    From looking at what was being cleaned up outside, at least they were loading the lumber and the building logs onto flat trailers instead of in the dumpsters so at least he was going to get some resale value from the hoard. He had more order and organization to the hoard in and outside the house but it was still overly cluttered and cramped. Compared to other episodes of "Hoarders" where you can't even see the floors and whole rooms are completely full to the ceiling his house was the cleanest by far. I hope he continues to do better for him and his girlfriends' sake.

    i ve seen hoarders fill up urban houses to the brim and their back and front gardens as well. And they need to be compelled by the law to clean it up. But his stuff is in open land in a country area, not urban at all.

    • @coreysuffield
      @coreysuffield 2 года назад +3

      at some point it becomes a city problem because there is a hazard of the materials catching fire, and causing more damage than a normal property due to the sheer volume of fuel for a fire, also other issues arise that can effect neighboring properties
      especially if it is within the city limits, "private land" is still within the city right of way, and they can claim parts of it for city projects

    • @danielreardon6453
