U 4 real? This aired on MTV? :O (I know Beavis & Butthead - ironically - brought the fine arts to the waves but for real? Did this air on the channel that currently shows My Sweet 16 instead of music videos?)
@@Dhakadice sadly, yes. MTV used to about music 24/7. But then Real World aired and it made a crapton of money with extremely low budget... and then that model proliferated.
I take it to have a double meaning. The first is a skeptical comment about human relationships. Being in love with someone generally leads to unhappiness, so a love that gets away mercifully spares you of that unhappiness. The other meaning is that we tend to imagine perfection in those that reject us. At times, everyone thinks back to a failed relationship, and imagines how perfect things would have been if only it would have worked out. There's more to elaborate on, but I'm out of room!
Me too! I had the album that had john travolta and barbara stresand on the cover-with faces covered up by the residents. Picnic boy is my favorite song.
Am I going senile, or was the Video Voodoo version of this a little different? I remember a couple sock puppets at the beginning of this one, or was that a different video?
i think i just figured it out. the man in the video is seen staring at the picture...i think it was his wife, who is dead now. they were together forever because they never got divorced or broken up, their relationship only ended because she died ("getting away"). They had a perfect love but it ended because she "got away" by dying.
Yes ..me too : I vividly remember listening to songs from the Commercial Album and feeling very bad in my head after a while, I had to cut volume off completely (simply cutting it down just didn't stop headache)... first time I experienced that...
pretty much all of there good songs are abstract and creepy. don't believe in me.don't believe in medon't believe in medon't believe in me.............
It easy to be weird and make a jarring noise though isnt it? None of the their music is music (yes, subjective) I love weird stuff, thats why I looked into this band. but this is irritating crap. (my opinion only)
The Residents' sound seem too cold, sterile and "art project-y" for me. They seem like a more existential version of Blue Man Group! Too post modern for post modern sake and this coming from a guy who likes Beefheart, Zappa, Devo, a bit of Kraftwerk, etc
Believe it or not, yes. In its early days, MTV was so desperate for content that they resorted to airing honest-to-goodness art.
Yes I see now how bad they dont don't want anyone to be inspired

It was totally bitchin, one of the most aired music videos at some point was "Dog Police"...by Dog Police...from their album Dog Police.
Actually I remember when these videos were released. 20 years ago maybe. MTV was already a zombie advertiser
i have never wanted a Residents' hand puppet more than i do after having seen this video.

I saw this back in '81 too. Loved it!
I like this video because:
1. He hits the wall like 11 times
2. He puts his arm behind the picture at 0:55
The darling of the COMMERCIAL ALBUM.
The Residents son lo más artístico que he visto y escuchado, por algo tengo más de 25 vinilos en mi colección, sin contar cassettes y singles.
Great one

Viva the Residents !
Saw this only ONCE in '81 or something. I never forgot it. PUPPETS! Yeah!

I love it when he takes de picture of the woman.

I never quite understood how they got Phil Collins to star in this one. Curious.
Actually it's Fill Kollings
Genius.
I totally agree :p
0:56
first time i realized his arm, it freakd me out
Still amazing and disturbing.
No,just amazing.
"Perfect Love" from "The Commercial Album" (1980)
both are open to interpretation.
I wish i had those puppets
jejejeje LOL💛💓💓
Yeah, it must have been pretty startling. In its defense, though, MTV had a very "fringe" feel when it was young.
same guy of Renaldo and the loaf - song for swinging larvae.

Is that the same man from the Mans World video?
Woi gua dari tahun 2022
reminds me of the oompa loompa songs when the voice gets deep on last verse
Mr Burns? Is that you?
2022
this song depresses me
👀👀
@shootitup21 like shootin it up
I ended up not seeing their last damned live show because I was stubborn and refused to let my gf pay my way in. Shortly thereafter, snakefinger died.
They are still touring.
