They still tour and have a new album coming out. But yeh, born too late to experience them in their prime. Could easily argue they are more of a concept than a band. Kind of like how GWAR does not have any original members anymore.
I just wanted to say thank you Residents, You have helped me in the worst of times and have made me happy. you never fail to amaze me. I'm pretty sure the residents probably will never see this comment but i just want to say thank you for all you have done. I look up to you guys as heroes. Thank you so much.
This is one of the most affecting Residents songs, period. Say what you want about their body of work, this is a powerful piece of work. RIP Hardy. You were amazing.
This is so haunting. It manages to turn the darkest emotions into a strange euphoria. When the girl sings, "Mr. Cuckoo has fallen asleep" I really like the small rest between "a' and 'sleep". It messes with the rhythm and mimics the way a music box sounds as it's winding down. I also love the way the chord progressions alternate between nostalgic and menacing.
One thing I love about The Residents is that while they mostly do messed up videos, but they are just capable of making such an emotional piece as anyone else, but still able to keep that Residents touch.
If you ever decide to fully delve into the Resident's catalogue, you'll find yourself being uneasy with every album you hear, only to become hopelessly obsessed with everything they've ever done. I think they may be from another planet... Not kidding
Very proud to say that I shook the hand of Homer Flynn last January when the Residents Came to London UK. The Residents and I go back forty years since I first saw them on Whistle Test and was captivated.
it's almost baffling that i listen to bands that make a brand out of how sad they are (y'know, doom metal and stuff) but nothing comes close to how devastating this song is
residentfan2 My dad works with a guy who was with them for a short while He said this "These guys didn't know how to play their instruments, I wanted to play music!"
SpectreEelman Yeah . You read so many comments on RUclips about so and so being underrated. TheResidents are truly underrated, not well known enough. Geniuses with no peers.
So much pain in the world...We all look for a glimmer of hope even when there appears to be none...They have seemed to achieved it here...Thank You Residents.💔
I've never heard this before just now. It's beautiful and haunting. Sounds like despair, and emptiness and loneliness. Could be the soundtrack playing in my head on any given day. Had me in tears on the first listen.
First listen: "I really like this!" Second listen: "This is really sad..." Third listen: *silently sobs* This is the only song that has ever legitimately made me weep. Kudos to The Residents for wrecking my soul...
It really is one of those songs that make you smile even if bleeding and dying, for you know your anguish has found a soundtrack..............................
One of my favourite Residents songs. There is a lo-fi live version of this song with Nolan Cook on slide guitar that kicks ass. Part of the Talking Light tour I do believe.
I remember the first time I ever listened to this/watched it. Makes me feel nostalgic now. Time passes too fast, I think this song encapsulates that feeling
Somewhere, in San Anselmo, there is a place of memorial and great creation. Much of what we adore came from this place. We know not where, exactly. But Hardy is there.
Love this song, love the animation. Animal Lover is -in my opinion- one of the Essential Albums by The Residents. I mean, for people who don't know them, this is a very good album to start with.
The last time I saw The Residents live (I'm one of those lucky people who saw them live more than once before Hardy Fox died), they finished the show with this song (it was the Bunny Boy tour). Beautiful was too weak a word.
i liked this band when they were hooked up with ralph records, close to there beginning, but this is something i missed. not normal residents, but a damd good song. thanks for this. made my day an i will be getting it. got about 10 albums, all ralph records. favs: happy birthday to me, constantanopel, an this is a mans world.
Nice to see somebody else's video adaptation of this song. I was pleasantly surprised to hear them play this song as their encore when I saw them on the Bunny Boy tour.
This video messed me up pretty bad inside the first time I saw it. It appears to be a working class dad and his daughter coming home from the mother's funeral... Awful, but a perfect match for what is possibly one of The Resident's most beautiful songs.
Might I add that there are moments where their expressions seem melancholic. Like there's an implied cold distance between them. Maybe I'm looking a bit deep, but I think that's the beauty of the song. The video compliments the song's tone and lyrical content perfectly. I'd consider this official if it was associated with The Residents themselves.
Steven said little Ted was dead I read in a letter today The same for Monica's monkey he said Quietly it passed away Mister Coo Coo has fallen asleep His eyes were black and his beak was brown Mister Coo Coo has fallen asleep But soon his home will be underground The wind was cold and the world was old When I went to my window today The sky was dark as a hopeless heart When I went to my window today
Beautiful music, and so lovely movie. So sad story of daughter and father. At the scene in the train, there is a distanse between them. Maybe father is not good at having skinship with his daughter(0:10). Mother(already gone) was may burying the relationship of family. Father loved daughter, but not strong enough at keep her beside, because he is poor and busy, so he is on the way to leave his daughter with his relative. I guess. At the scene in the park (maybe it close to the relative house), father disappeared. I guess, he is still alive, but his heart gone away from his daughter. She got thrown away. What a sad story! She wants to have skinship, hug a tree trunk and think of last memory with her father. I'm Japanese, and I think many of Japanese has sadness with relationship like them. Maybe animater of this movie also Japanese I guess. Because landscape and details are very familiar to me. This family was living in Tokyo, and daughter was taken to countryside that relative house is. I strongly wish she is still alive, and she will grab happiness.
The Residents have been with me since I was 17. I'm 53 now.
Me too...i m 50 now....Lol
I'm 18 now. For four years I've been into the residents, legendary pink dots, and mimir.
+Brian Mcfie 59 here...60 in November....
They've been here since the 70s fam
They still tour and have a new album coming out. But yeh, born too late to experience them in their prime. Could easily argue they are more of a concept than a band. Kind of like how GWAR does not have any original members anymore.
We're always alone, even when with those we know,
I just wanted to say thank you Residents, You have helped me in the worst of times and have made me happy. you never fail to amaze me. I'm pretty sure the residents probably will never see this comment but i just want to say thank you for all you have done. I look up to you guys as heroes. Thank you so much.
They are heroes. I just saw them and I agree. There's nothing else like them.
This is one of the most affecting Residents songs, period. Say what you want about their body of work, this is a powerful piece of work. RIP Hardy. You were amazing.

What's so haunting about it,,, seems so normal to me,,,,
solid analysis i feel quite the same while listening to it
@@martindesbois9355 Agreed. These guys are on another level. Their own level. There is nothing quite like The Residents.
One thing I love about The Residents is that while they mostly do messed up videos, but they are just capable of making such an emotional piece as anyone else, but still able to keep that Residents touch.
Spooky, sad and silly all in one thing.
Silly? Where? Everything about this broke my heart haha
@@snicker576
"Mister Coo-coo hasd fallen asleep" sounds a bit silly in a touching way. :)
But viewed from a child´s perspective however, it´s heartbreaking.
I agree and, mostly... I love "Grim Fandango" too ❤
If you ever decide to fully delve into the Resident's catalogue, you'll find yourself being uneasy with every album you hear, only to become hopelessly obsessed with everything they've ever done.
I think they may be from another planet... Not kidding
CK3890 where should I start please?
Ana de lope. I dont know your tastes but try "Not Available" and "the commercial album"
Like Dvar.
Very well put. Their music is a drug unto itself.
tbh anything after the 70s is weak except gitp demon dance and animal lover
Very proud to say that I shook the hand of Homer Flynn last January when the Residents Came to London UK.
The Residents and I go back forty years since I first saw them on Whistle Test and was captivated.
simply one of the most beautiful sad songs ever.
it's almost baffling that i listen to bands that make a brand out of how sad they are (y'know, doom metal and stuff) but nothing comes close to how devastating this song is
A thought provoking book, a bottle of Irish whiskey, this song on loop. There are times when a person just needs nights like this.
This song is sad but beautiful. Shows the depth of their talent.
residentfan2 My dad works with a guy who was with them for a short while
He said this
"These guys didn't know how to play their instruments, I wanted to play music!"
@@counter-weightmedias2263 for people who don't know how to play instruments they sure make some incredible shit
This is probably my favourite song from The Residents.
The Residents ~ "The Greatest band, the World doesn't know..."
(and this song is proof of that statement )
SpectreEelman Yeah . You read so many comments on RUclips about so and so being underrated. TheResidents are truly underrated, not well known enough. Geniuses with no peers.
it's better that the band stay underground
So much pain in the world...We all look for a glimmer of hope even when there appears to be none...They have seemed to achieved it here...Thank You Residents.💔
From " Smelly tongues" to this beautiful piece of music - I always admired the bandwidth of music they have. *love*
though this is a more beautiful and peaceful song from The Residents, it does not stop being scary and mysterious
francisco acosta I know huh. It's really tame to what they used to do.
RIP Hardy Fox 1945-2018
Heart frozen, shattered, incinerated
):
One of the greatest songwriters of our time. I wish I could've shook his hand, followed by a nod and a wink
I've never heard this before just now. It's beautiful and haunting. Sounds like despair, and emptiness and loneliness. Could be the soundtrack playing in my head on any given day. Had me in tears on the first listen.
fan since the late 70ties, went to them last year with 19 year old son and friend, they were amazed, best show they 'd ever seen
Doing what they do requires immense musical talent and imagination.
First listen: "I really like this!"
Second listen: "This is really sad..."
Third listen: *silently sobs*
This is the only song that has ever legitimately made me weep. Kudos to The Residents for wrecking my soul...
Bobby Bradbury i wanna hug you
I started to tear up at "The wind was cold and the world was old When I went to my window today"
Lol this and Modest Mouse's Little Motel video it's so cathartic to read the comments after the feels come.
I think if your soul was really wrecked, you wouldn't feel it.
Listen to Ohm Sweet Ohm by Kraftwerk. Probably my favorite song of all time. I still tear up when I hear that song. Fawn by Tom Waits too.
Animal Lover is a badass album.
I listen to residents since 1975, I'm 53. Hated them with songs disappeared from youtube, but I'm here again
Residents forever. Greetings from Italy
Love this song. It's sad, yes... but rings of truth and compassion.
I remember the first time I ever listened to this/watched it. Makes me feel nostalgic now. Time passes too fast, I think this song encapsulates that feeling
anything by the residents is amazing.
Excellent. Ça mériterait d'être plus connu. Parfois on passe à côté de vrai chef d'oeuvres.
En effet.
masterpiece
i miss snakefinger this reminds me of him and the residents a sad song
A child's first experience of death (her dead pet bird).
She dreams, realizing that someday her father will die as well.
Story i got was it was her newly dead mother...🤔
Somewhere, in San Anselmo, there is a place of memorial and great creation. Much of what we adore came from this place. We know not where, exactly. But Hardy is there.
i cant help it but listening to this all over and over again for few days since i first found it. its so melancholic
Love this song, love the animation.
Animal Lover is -in my opinion- one of the Essential Albums by The Residents.
I mean, for people who don't know them, this is a very good album to start with.
I'm lucky enough to have the instrumental limited release in my collection. Honestly I need to get the original album aswell.
This video always makes me think of me and my daughter. I hope one day she loves the residents like I do.
This is so beautiful...
The Residents, where have you been all my life?!
Ειναι το αγαπημενο μου τραγουδι!
Και το δικό μου επίσης!
Me too I'm 58 they've been with me for over twenty years know 😌
Bravo, magnifique, beautiful.
They've always been about multimedia, but this is a heartbreaker.
Beautiful all around.
I am sad that this does not have more views
FIrst song I've heard by the Residents, and still my favorite
"The sky was dark as a hopeless heart" Fantastic video to a fantastic song.
this is the saddest song I've ever heard
The last time I saw The Residents live (I'm one of those lucky people who saw them live more than once before Hardy Fox died),
they finished the show with this song (it was the Bunny Boy tour).
Beautiful was too weak a word.
Listen to them since the 70's . This song made .e sad....I don't like being sad
Bleak surrealness, Hardy Fox is all over this. so many levels.
... Just crying,,,
Same... This is a truly emotional piece, beautiful in it´s sadness...
Always captivating…
i liked this band when they were hooked up with ralph records, close to there beginning, but this is something i missed. not normal residents, but a damd good song. thanks for this. made my day an i will be getting it.

Great band, great tune.
bro this is the saddest shit i’ve ever seen in my life
Now this was really Sad..
Very heart breaking...
Brutal.
I want this song for my funeral 😌
Sometimes u wonder how ppl could dislike .... Krazy..........
Even when doing a less far out song than usual, The Residents manage to hit brilliance.
Beautiful!
Just lovely.
Nice to see somebody else's video adaptation of this song. I was pleasantly surprised to hear them play this song as their encore when I saw them on the Bunny Boy tour.
this improved the flavor of my dish
Beautiful and heartbreaking
Beautiful and sad.
Haven't listened to the Residents since 1985,after which i mistakenly thought they became rather crap...then i heard this...now i'm back onboard.
A moving piece of music and an equally touching video.
This video messed me up pretty bad inside the first time I saw it.
It appears to be a working class dad and his daughter coming home from the mother's funeral...
Awful, but a perfect match for what is possibly one of The Resident's most beautiful songs.
MrBurnHollywood You just made it even more depressing for me :(
Wow man, never thought about it but it makes sense
What fucks me up is when the father disappears. She's all alone.
Might I add that there are moments where their expressions seem melancholic. Like there's an implied cold distance between them.
Maybe I'm looking a bit deep, but I think that's the beauty of the song. The video compliments the song's tone and lyrical content perfectly. I'd consider this official if it was associated with The Residents themselves.
somethink like this i hear maybe 2 on my life. this is so beautifull. i have any words....
Especially considering the loss of dear old Hardy Fox, I find 'Loneliness' a tad more melancholy than this.
RIP Pretzels. You were the Queen of Grot with the best whisks.
Love your uploads, Virgil Pink!! 👍👍
Residents can be sad or creepy but never sappy !
Es una canción hermosa.
Triste y hermosa (L)
This song broke down my last pinch of cockiness on life and now I feel that I'm left with no -reason- (lie) to live.
This song gutted me when I first heard it, after my father passed away it’s very hard to listen to it but cathartic at the same tjme
This hurts...
The first song I heard was Make Me Moo a couple of hours ago, and I kinda liked it. Imagine my reaction when I got here.
♡.
Okay so I didn't think the Residents could ever actually make me cry.
Good job you horrible, horrible people. Love it.
Simple et pourtant tellement touchant
Remarkable ambiance ...
Wow. Superb.
Steven said little Ted was dead
I read in a letter today
The same for Monica's monkey he said
Quietly it passed away
Mister Coo Coo has fallen asleep
His eyes were black and his beak was brown
Mister Coo Coo has fallen asleep
But soon his home will be underground
The wind was cold and the world was old
When I went to my window today
The sky was dark as a hopeless heart
When I went to my window today
Beautiful, yet sad.
Still amazing :)
Wow. Combine the technique of William Kentridge with the visual style of Jiří Trnka. Quite lovely.

Gotta embrace weirdness
transcendental ... the key that unlocks every door
The difference between their three first albums and this is like night and day
All to real..
Great vídeo!
I'm here after smoking weed. Why?!
I love The Residents
