I’ve read books and watched many videos on the XJ-S and still learned a few new things watching your video.

My dream is to own one of these. I think it is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. I'm aiming for the one of the V12's, the 5.3l or the 6.0l. I also want to manual swap it as they're plummed and ready for it and seems a terrific upgrade to make. The day I get one, the first place I'm going is to my Dad's to pick him up and take him for a ride in it, which is to say the dream is not only to own a Jag XJS, but to take my Dad out for a ride in one too.
    Great video, very entertaining.

Thank you for the kind words! When you do buy get one with as much service history as possible (especially the V12) and check the floors. The jacking points are unique to the XJS and they often get damaged.

Interesting video Darren. Nice to see some of the early development pictures. I have always thought it unfair that the XJS is knocked by so many and leads you to think no one likes them which isn't true. They have a big following and people really do like them. It was unfair to compare them against the e type. It wasn't an e type it was an XJS. In the mid 70's we got the SD1 Rover, Tr7, Princess, and the XJS and it was too much of a shock for many people. British cars were trying to modernise but the public weren't yet ready for them. The XJS i believe had the longest production run of any Jaguar and when the convertible was released in 1988 it lead i think in 1990 to its best sales year. I own a 1992 Facelift V12 Convertible and since buying it , it has amazed me how much attention it gets where ever i go. Strangely enough i was never keen on the look of the facelift lights until i got mine and i love it. They are the most comfortable seats i have ever had in a car and they are lovely cars. You got a bargain with yours and it been the Coupe in the USA as you said will make it rarer and a little bit more special. I saw the thumbnail and expected to see a US spec car and when you started speaking i thought you were a brit and confirmed when i looked at your homepage.👍

I think Ford put $70 million US dollars into the updated facelift version.

Sounds about right, around £50 million.
