My brain almost exploded when I noticed a new “Ask Dave” on a Monday Night. Don’t mind at all and the Doug Aldrich interview was great…what a good guy!!
Metal tubes were made for military purposes because believe it or not glass is fragile and we were fighting wars before transistors were a thing. Fun fact: the "GC" in 6L6 GC = Glass Case
Regarding Patreon, I follow Dave Rat through the RUclips membership thing and I think he does a great job with it. He kind of releases videos there before they go live, sometimes videos that never go live, and he schedules zoom calls with members through that. He's also a super interesting and funny guy in general and I think would be worth having on the show. He has endless funny war stories. You'd love him. Really smart and down to earth.
Regarding the real amp vs modelers. There was gig recently with couple local bands. Opening act was just 3 piece with walls of Marshall stacks blasting on full. All the other bands came with modelers. One can easy see and feel the different mood in audience , when struck by full valve sound pressure versus silent stage and full PA. The experience is vastly different.
@@stanislavmigra a colossal sound can be achieved by fractals and kempers. It's what almost all of the big rock bands use these days on tour. The days of expensively lugging big amps around are over. The fans don't care.
Totally missed it live ... really need to pay attention to the schedule!!! Special Post Father's Day Show on the rewind is better than nothing! Purple Jake amp... YES!!! BTW... ever think of doing a Rhoads amp? His live sounds was incredible! 🤘🎸😎
Another great show guys. Thank you for your time. As a big EV fan, I'd like to see that speaker deep dive. Within that, I think a comparison to the same EV in a Thiele spec'd cab versus a Friedman cab would be really interesting. One cabinet designed for that speaker and one not. EVs are a speaker rabbit hole, but could be a fun one to go down.
I also love EV’s. I’ve got a pair of Mesa Thiele cabs with them. I’ve got a Matamp 4x12 with 12L’s and a pair of Thiele 15L cabs as well as a Mesa 2x15 with 15B’s. I use mostly baritones and the EV’s hold up so well with extended range guitars.
@@louderthangod Nice! That sounds like a great variety to cover all your sonic needs. I've got two EV loaded Mesa Thieles as well. Absolutely love them. And agreed on the extended range note. They work well keeping my 7 string together.
Regarding Revera amps, I played a Rake a few years ago and was pretty blown away by it. It reminded me of my Naylor in some ways. Anyway, that one is pretty cool, but I don't have experience with the others.
@Marc, Listening to you and dave talk gear really brings back great memories for me of when i had the ability to be gear obsessed and really into playing. These days unfortunately for me there are many things in my way to keep me from being able to play and think about gear anymore. essentially life has become very stressful and crappy overall. My whole world used to be music, gear and playing but now i am so stressed out everyday over problems and life issues that i just cannot enjoy it anymore. Oh well it was fun while it lasted right?
Hey man sorry things look dark and stressful lately. Things will get better…hang in there! Hopefully you will feel better and things will improve for you soon! Thanks for watching us! Hope we bring you some happiness
@@These_go_to_eleven_1959 listening to this show always relaxes me. Maybe think of it like that. If not give some of Buckethead's more mellow songs a listen. He's known as a shredder to a lot of people but look up a "chill mix of buckethead" on youtube...you will be blown away by how versatile he is and how great is more tame music is.
With that 2203X if it was set up for 5881s you might have to change the screen resistors as well, they sometimes changed them to 470Ohms and I think one of the grid resistors for the PI was changed to 470K maybe?
Love the Ask Dave episodes! Did Dave mention a 20 watt Jake head? Don’t tease us! I too am puzzled who some amp makers don’t want to promote their product. I have a Splawn 100w Nitro head and it kills.
If you're outside the USA the shirts are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. Postage and duties simply destroy the reason to buy. These shows are a goldmine of knowledge and entertainment. Long may they continue
Btw , would u guys know a good place to buy an AT2313 minicontroller for marshall dsl 40 ? Just need 1 for myself . Lol , thx guys . Love the channel .
@@tone-talk You are right about that !! I always enjoy those type of gifts more often !! On another note , I really enjoy everything you guys bring in these videos !! The best channel for guitar/gear nerds !! Love my 2015 Be-100 , would love to find the Be-100 Deluxe and a 4x12 to go with it. No one has them in my area. Any suggestions for a midi switch to control the amp when using a rack effects unit ? If you guys can have an episodes for some of the killer tones in the 80's and 90's. Mick Mars , George Lynch and etc.

The question is, does the audience care? The guitar players in the audience might, but not so sure the rest does.
@@HiredGoonage of course they do. Of course audience wants to hear bands with collosal sound. Whay question is this?

Favorite show on RUclips! Could talk about gear all day!
I am totally down with it being a pre filmed roundtable with WD and JEL! Better that than not at all right?
Love these ask Dave shows , cheers BC

Dann Huff would be killer. God, how I adored him growing up. Made me a better player listening to him. GIANT anyone?

Massive fat thumbs up for Dann Huff on the show.
Been subbed since like 1.3k congrats on hitting 20k and entertaining/educating all us tone nerds lol cheers!

Is it Dave working with satriani on an amp?
Not currently

@dave any chance of a 50w Phil X head?
