The problem is when that leads to authoritarianism. "I will not allow any argument on the matter". The left are likely using that justification (no matter how removed from reality it is) for denying dialogue when it comes to forced vaccination for example. I argue with stupid people (I have my own stupid days sometimes), but I only stop when I can prove through argument that their argument is in bad faith because that is what's not worth arguing with.
