I love how exciting this song is. Like 3-4 verses and just endless riffage and solos
it's actually just 1 vocal verse.

It's one of my favorite Megadeth songs. The term "riff salad" is mostly used in the context of a pointless concatenation of random riffs in lieu of meaningful songwriting, but I think this song flows perfectly even though it eschews traditional verse-bridge-chorus song structure. It has great dynamics and a very organic groove to it and there is a very exciting dramaturgic arc start to finish.
Exactly the term riff salad was prob invented by someone with a tiny attention span anyway lmao im sure there are songs out there that actually are like that and have no logical flow to them but this aint one of them
@@spiritofthetallhills2037 The term riff salad is fine because it's supposed to be used for thrash with 0 thought put into songwriting but Wake Up Dead has amazing progression so it just isn't accurate in this case

@@honigdachs. I'd love to know why people get so defensive over music. I think all this texting causes people to add their own tone to the words, which causes radical misunderstanding. Sounds like people are just conversing friendly, not trying to offend or bother anyone.

just imagine what would have resulted if dave stayed in metallica: so much Godly riffage that the entire planet would have been torn asunder, ending with a black hole sucking in the entire universe bc too much heavy metal. megadeth had to form so that balance of heaviness could be established, thus saving the world
I'll take Megadeth any day over Mustaine staying with Metallica.. Surpassed them and his riffs weren't compromised.
Honestly I think Metallicas success would have resulted in Daves drug problems getting the best of him. I dont see Dave surviving the Black album tour.

Wake Up Dead
I've often said Dave Mustaine is the king of riffs and Wake Up Dead's intro is the perfect example of that: not only does he pull killer riffs by the hundreds, but the way he articulates them to build the song and give it a certain dynamic is golden. Any other band would have made an entire record with such material and so many riffs; for Mustaine, it's only an intro and he'll play something entirely different later on in the song.
There's a certain sophistication in Megadeth which I find incredibly satisfying (as a guitar player myself), just the sheer excitement of hearing those riffs juxtaposed, that's brilliant and insane at the same time.

That is actually what i dont like about megadeth and many other bands, they dont build up to solos and stick to 3-4 heavy riffs. IMO solos shiuldnt be thrown in the song whenever just to show how good of a guitarist I am.
Ridiculous song. Dave strings a bunch of banger riffs one after the other to the point it's almost a shame most of 'em ain't got a standalone song for themselves. The sections are indeed randomly knitted - a riff salad indeed - but it's, like, a Michelin star salad with rural Italian toppings.

Back when megadeth had so many quality riffs that even the transitions between sections were more creative than entire songs in the late catalog.
Like at some point the well ran dry and song structures became simplified out of necessity.
