F30 N55 Charge Pipe Install

  • Let's face it, the OEM charge pipe is borderline trash and was never meant for longevity. BMW...you are all the way trippin! At least there is an aftermarket option and if more power gets added later you'll be covered with a metal replacement installed. The charge pipe, intercooler, and boost pipe are mods you have to install ASAP but for now, this video will be for a charge pipe. Preventative maintenance comes second (immediate maintenance is first). NOTE: I'm not a certified mechanic or do this as a profession.

    Well done. Thank you. I just replaced mine. The intercooler had kind of aged and warped a bit over the years requiring some dremel work to get the new aluminum charge pipe on. The plastic is junk. Stage 1 ECU flash. 2012 N55 RWD by the way. Took about 4 hours total due to the 2 hours of custom dremel work. No oil blow by really. Had the use of a lift so that helped a lot. Oh and one of the clamps in my kit like yours was the wrong size. Fun times.

    Good job Pablo. I'm doing this on my 2013 335 next week. The original charge pipe as 125,000 miles on it. This helps so I know what to deal with.

    I avoided all the belly pan/intercooler removal. I was able to remove the blown charge pipe by cutting it into 2 pieces using a SHARP steak knife. Just drill a few holes into the charge pipe a few inches above the bellows, and start sawing away. 5 minutes work. DIVIDE AND CONQUER.

      How’d you get the clips off the bottom at the intercooler? I’m going to try to tackle this this weekend. I also figured it could just come out of the top. I was shocked when I first saw intercooler removal.

      @@Resinatural640 Clips just slide outward, that's no problem. I recall I was able to reach it easily after cutting off the top half of the pipe and getting it out of the way. The whole job only took me 2 hours. its been a while but that is my honest recollection.

    I can’t stress it enough to n55 owners if you are driving and you hear a bomb go off Check your charge pipe. These pipes are notorious for sounding like grenades when you blow them due to all that pressurized air getting out

    I installed my charge pipe everything went well except the the little plastic clips for the vacuum line that connect to the charge pipe and the air intake broke I’m replacing it but I was wondering was it difficult for you to put on when you replaced the charge pipe ?

    • @pabloduhcanadian6328
      @pabloduhcanadian6328  20 дней назад

      it certainly was especially since it was my first time on this car. fitting the top of the charge pipe to the intake manifold required some muscle to snap into place. Then connecting that top pipe to the lower pipe required patience and manuvaring to get them to fit but i did it. Just be patient, keep your eyes open and tightening everything good. Be careful with the vacuum lines for the new ones, they are still fragile. Good luck and thank you for watching!

    The lack of room in the engine bay terrifies me of modding and working on my 2014 335 I just got a few weeks ago. I came from a ‘97 eclipse gsx where there is all kinds of room compared to these cars lol

    MAP sensor, not 02 . The oxygen concentration in the earths’ atmosphere is constant. This is the intake. The exhaust has two O2 sensors, one on the inlet of the cat, one on the outlet. Just saying…

      I’m just did mine I removed it from the top and installed the new one in two parts, first the bottom then the top and there was no need to remove another else on the car. Or even the intake, the c-clamp on the top half is a bit of a pain but not rocket science 🫡
