  • This is the DIY guide for installing the Active Autowerke charge pipe into a BMW F32 435i. The job all in all isn't very hard and takes very few tools. Plan for a couple of hours out in the garage, and you can make a significant change to the performance of your car.
    The factory charge pipe is plastic, and while it can fail under normal conditions, it becomes quickly suspect if you are changing the boost ceilings from your turbo. Its easy to find horror stories of blown OEM charge pipes and drivers bringing their car home in limp mode.
    This change brings not only a stronger solution for OEM turbo settings, but also opens the door for the significant headroom the turbo still has for boost settings beyond 12+ pounds, over the stock max of 9lbs. This also is the next logical change after you make a chip change, or install something like the Burger Tuning JB4 tuning box.
    The charge pipe was provided by Mike of Extreme Power House, who should be your first stop when looking for performance increases in your BMW. They offer a full line of products that can take your stock BMW to a near race ready place!

    I also partnered with the Self Service Garage located in Tacoma Washington, who let me use a lift and get under the car more easily to film the project. The owner and employees were a pleasure to work with, and run a great business and real community service.

    As I mention a couple of times too many in the video, this work absolutely CAN be done with a jack and a pair of jack stands. A lift just makes it easier and faster. As ALWAYS, be safe using a jack and getting under your car, and never just use a jack by itself without stands in case the hydraulics fail. Hydraulic floor jacks can and will fail without warning, and jack stands will save your life.
    Required parts and tools:
    Active Autowerke charge pipe
    8mm socket
    7mm socket
    T-27 torx bit and driver
    T-15 torx bit and driver
    small flat screwdriver
    jack and jack stands
    Nice to have tools
    Full auto lift
    Power drill with socket attachment
    Gloves
    magnetic tool bowl
    A friend to help lift parts or hold a light

    Absolutely stellar DIY video. Im a L1 ASE master tech by trade, that being said, details are EXTREMELY critical! I gotta say that this video(as well as his others) are very thorough and put together well!
    If you know how to pickup a tool and listen to the DIY BMW guy, you can do it!

      I really appreciate that so much! Coming from your experience, that comment means the world to me.. my goal is to show exactly what you said.. if you can pick up a simple tool, you can actually do the work yourself. Thank you!

    If you can't get the plastic charge pipe out enough from the top, wedge a long screwdriver against the accordion part of the charge pipe from above, then pry it upwards with leverage while pulling the chargepipe up. Thought it was impossible to get the pipe removed before this.

      Good info! I got lucky and pulling the clips on mine and it came right out.

    I need a charge pipe. Ran my car on Map 7 (catless downpipe/intake/e40) (e40 was fine on my 435iX EWG as avg ign was under 2) My charge pipe hasn't popped off "yet" but great video. As the downpipe was installed. I would agree that the larger IC replacememt would be a no brainer.

    Not very clear at all when it comes to explaining the taper and flare orientation of the special ring.
    Vrsf says front back and facing down , all words will confuse without a diagram.

    Would it have been possible to loosen the charge pipe at the top and pull the entire thing down from underneath instead? Seems like it was too much effort and the possibility of breaking something by pulling the CP out from the top.

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  Год назад +1

      I will always say if you find a better way, do that for sure! That said, pulling from underneath is a more severe angle and more pipe to pull through that space. I have had other N55 CPs come out more easily than this one did for sure.

    Is that plastic plug for the auto trans bung strong enough such that it won't cause boost leaks?

    Does the orientation for the o ring flare apply to the hot side of the turbo as well? (TIC) turbo to outlet pipe ?

    Hey there! I changed my charge pipe out about a month ago and have had no problems since than. With that being said.... Last night under not much pressure at all, the top half of my AAW charge pipe came off. Do you have any advice, or answers as to why this might of happened?
    I'm trying to avoid putting it up on a lift and taking it all apart again, but the angel on the charge pipe isn't quite right for me to just slide it back on. Thanks in advance for any advice.
    My car is 100% stock with the exception of the charge pipe.

      Riley Burwell sounds like the pipe might be slightly low or not fully seated, so the clip isn't keeping it in place.

    Been following your VODS for the past one month. I just talked to an auto tune shop.woll start building My JB4 with catless dp, intake.etc next week. now the only thing is the state emission test. How do you tackle it?

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  7 лет назад

      Junyi Yu well especially catless you will probably have issues. Worst case reinstall stock, pass the test, reinstall the DP. Really depends on what state though too and if your year of car has to be tested.

    U struggle a bit because of lazy shortcuts. Just remove those extra components in ur way in order to creat more space around the charge pipe so it can be easily removed & installed. Worth the extra time.

    Thank you for yet another extremely helpful video. Question: I have the JB4 installed as well. When you're pulling out the MAP sensor, did you disconnect the negative battery terminal? Is that necessary?

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  6 лет назад

      Thank you.. I don't believe you need to disconnect the negative post. I have seen some advise to do so, others completely skip it. If you feel at all uncertain, I would do so just to be safe.

    Thanks for the video and my F33 got more brace under the intercooler. After the install the car didn’t feel any faster bit smoother.

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  5 лет назад

      Well the CP alone wont really improve performance, but is needed for any other changes. Also there are many examples of bone stock N55s blowing their plastic OEM CP on enthusiastic driving.

      BMW DIY Guy Totally agree. Next week I should have my MDH tune.

      @@Shaochieh72 nice! As soon as I can do the work, I will have a Wagner high flow downpipe video up, followed by more tune updates and a dyno run. I really hope to break 400rwp on pump gas.

      BMW DIY Guy I will not install a intercooler since I live in Germany for now. It never gets hot here so I opt out this mod for now. What is the best mod for power other a tune?

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  5 лет назад

      @@Shaochieh72 tune and downpipe. Catless downpipe will give the most but then you deal with smell and emissions. A good high flow is almost as good as catless.

    Another great video. While I agree perhaps it would have been beneficial replacing the inter cooler at the same time, but then we would not learn so many great tips from you...Ha Ha thanks. Also as someone who was debating this same upgrade, I'm curious to see if you notice incremental improvements from stock, to charge pipe, to charge pipe & inter cooler. First I need to do the tune and DP once finances allow, then I'll try your suggestion and do the charge pipe from above down. Thanks again for the informative video.

    • @BMWDIYGuy
      @BMWDIYGuy  7 лет назад

      Noel Raymond thank You! I will have the intercooler DIY video up hopefully the next 10-14 days. I believe I can feel a difference with the new charge pipe, but hard to definitely say. It will allow higher boost though which will make a measurable difference and the IC to deal with extra heat.
