HUGE TIP FOR ANYONE WHO INSTALLS THIS - that black piece that holds the clip in at the bottom of the charge pipe doesn't need to be pried off. The whole thing is actually a quick release clip. From the front of the pipe (black piece on the back side) just stick two flathead screwdrivers in the left+right front part, and twist them to expand the metal c clip open. Once you twist a side far enough, it locks in to place. Do this on both sides and the clip stays open and unlocked and the pipe slides right out. push in on it and the clips snap back in to place. this should take one of the worst parts of the install and make it substantially easier
Yo bro, im about to do this next weekend. Can you elaborate a little more? Once you twist those open and locked in place, there is still the issue of the middle part ( the U ) been inside locked inside, it doesn't just slide out. How do you take out that middle part? I read that you have to pull the piping towards the IC ( dunno why ) and use a screw driver to pry that U part out. Is that right?
Super helpful! Basically just pry the metal clip left and right until it stays open. Then push the charge pipe off the intercooler inlet. No need to snap the plastic retaining piece off.
Hey Brian, I did this job over the weekend, and found out that if you remove the charge pipe from the top its much easier than from the bottom, all you do is twist it, and follow the curvature of the pipe, you don't have to unfasten the cooling line, you don't have to fight it, plus if you look at it, the top where it hooks up to the throttle body is wider than the bottom where it hooks up to the intercooler, only a suggestion that's all, hopefully it'll help someone else.
I avoided the belly pan/intercooler removal. I removed the air filter box, and disconnected the lower clip from up top. Then I easily removed the blown charge pipe by SAWING it in 2 pieces just ahead of the bellows. Just drill a few holes in the charge pipe and then use a SHARP steak knife to saw the pipe into 2 pieces. 5 minutes later....out comes the pipe from the top. Never had to even lay on the ground. DIVIDE AND CONQUER :-)
Thanks for the video. I was able to figure out how to get it out without jack stands and without taking out the intercooler. It wasn't easy but I basically followed all these steps up to the point where you explained how to take out the intercooler. Once I got the black clip out (which was a pain, had to use pliers to pull down the tabs) I was able to push up on the charge pipe from the intercooler using a screwdriver. After a bunch of twisting and pulling, I was able to pull out the charge pipe from the top without breaking anything.
Awesome instructional as always! Don’t know what I’d do without you. One thing, as another commenter mentioned, the connection to the intercooler from the charge pipe is a quick-release mechanism. If you pry out the metal clip on either side it stays disengaged and you can then push the hose off. Much easier than prying off the plastic piece. I too was able to get everything out the bottom without taking off the intercooler but I can definitely see it being a bit easier. Thanks again!
Just replaced mine. I didn't need to pull the intercooler because I just pulled the old pipe out the top. It can definitely be done. For the maf sensor, I just used a 1/4" ratchet with 1/4" socket and a torx bit in the socket. Worked like a charm. Also used a flathead screwdriver to take the clips off the intercooler.
Great video, thanks. Respect to those who were able to remove the charge pipe through the top. I had to drop the intercooler but didn't need to loosen the coolant lines. Still, it was time consuming and difficult to free my broken charge pipe from the bottom. Waiting on parts for the replacement, but imagine a two piece charge pipe will be much easier to install and remove if needed in the future.
Hey Brian, i had a charge pipe failure few days ago, thanks for all your videos. That was a pain in the … to remove the old pipe out of there tried from the top and then from the bottom after removing the intercooler and all the road grime!!!!! Still was a pain but got it done. I struggled a bit with the assembly and lining up the collars so they don’t rub on anything. You need small hands to get it done🤦🏼♂️ not my case 🤪😂. Can not imagine installing a OEM pipe in there. Keeps up the good work 👍🏻💪🏻
Here's a kick ass tip.: If you have some motor oil inside them charge pipes (engine blow-by oil) that means you have dirty valve carbon deposite inside ur intake manifold, them filthy valves must be super clean via a walnut blasting and issue will be fixed, no more oil leaking into the pipes and no need for an oil catch can. That would also fix that annoying shaking of the motor that u can feel inside when its idling!
When I did my VRSF chargepipes on my n55 I don't recall there being that much oil present but then again every car is different I suppose ! Great video!
Brian, nice vid on your install. You are lucky that you were able to find a piece like this that covered up some of the previous owners scraping. My only suggestion would have been to take the opportunity while working in the area and sand out some of the rough lower body scraped plastic and spray it with one of the black rough style trim paints. While most of it won't show, some still did plus YOU know its still there. Might have also been an opportunity to do a little spray touchup of the blue that will show since you have it clear of any other body pieces before you put the spoiler on. I'm sure that will get to you and you will fix it but it won't be as easy with the new spoiler on. Best of luck to you
You did this the hard way. Remove the radiator fan, air box and the very front black plastic under tray connected to the front bar and the job will be 100% easier.
Bro!! Thank you so much for these videos!! I have the same exact BMW 335i X Drive as you and LOVE these videos since RUclips lacks them!! Keep them coming!!
Nice job. Pain in the butt removing the stock pipe. Had to snake mine through the top because I didn't want to fool with Removing the intercooler. Looks like a tighter fit on the f30, I was working with an F25 and xDrive. Definitely need a lot of patience for this but worth it. Never return to stock with your charge pipe to save yourself the hassle from ever doing this again lol
Thanks. Yea, I tried to show some of the more difficult parts as well in the video and not make it look super easy. I was going to pull it out of the top, but I wanted to show people how to do it if they were following ER's directions. They say that xdrive is normally easier out the top though
Can you please name and possibly link the tools you used to release the clips for the tubing behind the intercooler as well as the thumb driver you used? Great video as always. Thanks.
Hey Brian thanks for the video.. I saw the stock charge pipe full of crappy oil, if you can install a catch can it will help preventing that oil from going back to the engine.
Do I need to remove the inter cooler in order to install a charge pipe? I have an N26, but I believe it is a similar install.I see you only removed the inte rcooler to wiggle the stock charge pipe out of the car, can I remove it from the top of the car? This way I'll save myself the hassle of removing the TIC pipe and inter cooler..
Watching this after my charge pipe decided it’s 4th of July on the highway. For those who get a DINAN tune, always get s new, higher quality pipe. I didn’t know and yeah mine went bang! Lol
Thanks for making the video, it was good to visualize everything before I start. Could you list off all the tools you used in the process in your future videos? Maybe have it in the description below.
DO NOT try to remove the charge pipe from the bottom. It’s absolutely insane to try to do so. Pull it out from the top as the flange that connects to the throttle body is much larger than the intercooler connection and is impossible to pull out from the bottom. Also, there is zero need to unfasten the coolant line brackets.
Is this charge pipe not available anymore? The new ones seem to be split much further down. I like how the top section is shorter, so you can remove it from the top of the vehicle.
Just bought this for the f32. I don't know how it just slides in there for you. I can't get it to line up at the top at all.. this has been more difficult than doing timing belts lol. ..
You might as well do it if you are going to install a new front mount intercooler. The OEM charge pipe will fail, especially after a tune or after 90,000 miles of driving.
How did you get the black plastic part put back on the bottom half of the chargepipe? I bought the same one but the bottom of mine doesn’t have space for those notches where the clamp goes
No tune is required for an upgraded charge pipe. All the upgrade is for is to strengthen the pipe with an aluminum part versus BMW’s plastic pipe which doesn’t hold much boost pressure before exploding like mine just did today on a stage 1 bootmod3 tune Edit: so now I need to buy an aluminum charge pipe haha
Hello Bryan when are you going to do a video on upgrading the intercooler, that is next on my car. Also what brand do you recomend, i have chargepipe, catted afe downpipe and jb4, thanks.
+8997456 Yes we are! Just need a couple weeks. We recommend and sell Evolution Racewerks. It's massive and works amazing! Email me at info@kiesmotorsports.com and I can send you some info on it
Might as well replace all them plastic pipes to all aluminum piping since the smaller pipes that connect to the turbo and left side of the intercooler (boost pipe) are as important and vulnerable to over heating & cracking as the plastic charge pipe itself. Go full aluminum or dont go at all! A must also to upgrade that small cheap intercooler to a bigger all aluminum Intercooler along with a Go fast Bits BOV Diverter as well.
Apologies if you showed this in a video before. How do you lift the car from the front to place the jack stands where the jackpoints are? I usually end up lifting it from the rear corner and the place the jackstand in the front corner on the same side but its very tedious compared to just lifting the car from the center haha. Also is there a rear jack point to do the same thing?
Thank you! I believe I tried checking for that front spot in my vehicle before but I had a black cover there like the rest of the under tray. Is it still safe to jack it up from that cover?
The aftermarket charge pipe rubber pieces to connect it together don’t make sense to me mine look totally different and the other doesnt fit another side someone help please
I'm wondering if the black finish has a little more give than the brushed finish for the charge pipe because mine just won't go on over the throttle body 😡
What about the black clip that came off the charge pipe to intercooler? Bought a vrsf charge pipe and don’t see a way of putting that black plastic piece back on it.
When reinstalling the metal clip on the ER charge pipe to the intercooler (intercooler to throttle body charge pipe that is) do you reuse the black retaining clip? It didn't seem like it goes back on and I'm not sure if you did/ didn't use it in your video.
Brian I put in the chargepipe and it fits flawlessly except that the vacuum line is too large to fit into the chargepipe. I have no idea what to do, if you see this and have any advice let me know! Thanks!
Hey man I just have a quick question about fitment between f30s, I have a 320i xdrive so it's an n20 and I wanted to know if most engine parts are comparable between the n20 and n26; like charge pipe, intercooler, and etc. Figured if someone knew it'd be you.

the factory plastic charge pipe cant handle much more psi of boost from the turbo if you tune the car for more boost/power, it will blow up the plastic charge pipe so we replace it with a all metal charge pipe.
Wow all of this for a charge pipe install on a 335i, you should have installed a high flow intercooler also. It’s crazy because a X5 35i charge pipe is easy to install.
I installed this charge pipe and I’m getting a lot of leaking oil my stock charge pipe did not have round o rings they more had a lip on them and they did not fit the charge pipe flush where can I get some from
If there’s one thing I’m happy about with my BMW purchase, it’s that there’s such a strong community for it like channels such as this. Thanks Kies!

So you didn’t disconnect the boost pipe or take the intercool out? you just disconnected it from the intercool and pulled it out from the top?
@@mattlemieux937 Yup.
So I might as well upgrade intercooler when doing this. Lol
Exactly my thoughts. Saves faffing with the intercooler

the factory plastic charge pipe cant handle much more psi of boost from the turbo if you tune the car for more boost/power, it will blow up the plastic charge pipe so we replace it with a all metal charge pipe.
Are those signs of rust already?
Yea, that's a story for another day
Wow all of this for a charge pipe install on a 335i, you should have installed a high flow intercooler also. It’s crazy because a X5 35i charge pipe is easy to install.
I installed this charge pipe and I’m getting a lot of leaking oil my stock charge pipe did not have round o rings they more had a lip on them and they did not fit the charge pipe flush where can I get some from
Your old one didn't have the o rings??
Is there a way to disable speed governor for f30 328i?
HypNo TriX that sucks
Is that engine oil in the stock charge pipe?
Yea.. oil catch can is a future video..
Kies Motorsports worse than what i thought... might need to install oil catch can for my f30 as well.
Is this the same process for an m235i? 😅
it is and it took me 3.5 hours working from the grond 1 side jack stand .. i got an m235i xdrive
Great job
Thanks!
Alguien que me diga que tal es esa marca por favor si es buena o mala
How long did it all take you? I watched the whole vid but I'm not sure if I missed it or not.
About 3 hours, with filming. Would be a lot faster without the camera
