Nice honest commentary. What is really informative for possible first time German car buyers is how and why maintenance is so expensive. Aside from parts, it was really good to understand that BMW's are complex to work on, so the labor is high. If you know how to work on cars you can mitigate. So armed with this knowledge, can buy a BMW eyes wide open. Thanks for the insights.
Great video man. The 335i was my second bimmer from a 328i. After that had to have a 640i and now rolling in an F10 550i with the N63TU. People always tell me..."WHY?, They are unreliable pieces of 💩 and too expensive to maintain!" I usually smile and say...it's all about the SPGs (Smiles per Gallon). Keep the videos coming bro.👍
Luckily I have a local BMW specialized garage. Prices are GREAT, service is really good and they know even better that the dealership what might/could be wrong with your car. They help you with minor things for free too. They don't repair stuff if it's not needed, honest people working over there.
You won't regent it. I've owed 3 Lexus and 2 BMW's. My first BWW was 1987 E30m3 loved that cars was great no major issues at all sold it when I was deployed for Desert Storm. Purchased another brand new BMW 2008 E90M3 the had nothing but issues steer wheel locking up, DCT issue, nav screen not working, oil consumption issues. Car spent more time at dealership then me driving it. When it work it drove great, power handling were excellent but the car was fraught with issues. Not just my M3 but other friends and neighbors that owned M3, and 335. Ended up fighting BMW of North America for over year until the car qualified for lemon law. 20 years later quality of BMW was No longer what it use to be. In 2008 my wife had IS350 that car was Rock solid in 2011 I purchased Lexus ISF after going to Lexus in side event where I was able to ISF, GS, LS and IS through autocross setup and take ride with pro driver at NJMP on lighting race track with pro driver driving ISF up to 150mph on straights it was fantastic. Even took ride in LFA as passengers of course lol that car was was epic and to this day the most exotic sounding exhaust I have ever heard. Well after 7yrs daily driving it to work in NYC and now weekend car my with over 100k miles on it. My ISF is actually faster and stronger then when I0 brought the car 10yrs ago. First yr added JOEZ catback exhaust and intake. Second yr PPE hearders AFE airfilter. FBO for 7yrs then RRRACING Tune and Tuned intake for last 2yrs. Upgrade suspension once oem finally needed changing. I tried swift springs with Blistien b6 shock drove nice but bit to harsh for my commute into NYC. Then KWv3 great coilovers. Now on Airlift 3H performance suspension they are fantastic. In 10yrs brought my 2011 in nov of 2010 the only major part I've changed was radiator it had small crack on top portion of radiator that was plastic. Change it out to high performance all Aluminum radiator for $700. Everything else has been basic maintenance oil, filters, brake pads and rotors, tires. I have never owned car this long I would purchase new car every 4 to 5 years. Trade in IS350 for 2016 RX350 SUV. Still have ISF and have no plans on selling it. I'm retired now at 55yrs old looking for stable mate for ISF maybe new C8 vette or CPO Porsche 911 GT3. I'm waiting to see how new C8 vette holds as well as letting them work bugs out it since it's new platform. Lexus/Toyota are built to go 300k if well maintained. Can't say that about any German car except for Porsche, down expensive to maintain. Hopefully this helps.
@@TheDavcrz5 Alright, so my family has owned 3 BMWs yet. 7 Series, 5 Series and M5 we had experienced no major issues and the repair bills were as expensive as we expected. All I know is that your grammar is messed up and you are complaining about BMWs and stuff writing a fake convincing essay that you think will help getting people to support you. Don't be a fanboy of Porsche, be capable enough to by a BMW first then judge it, BMWs aren't reliable because that's literally the point of German cars, they are luxury not reliable whereas if you see a Lexus is reliable but bullshit in luxury.
@@crownfedora5355Crown, you are personification of BMW Fangirl🦸♀️🦸♀️🙅♀️🙅♀️ having temper tantrum if anyone dare say anything about there beloved BMW. Listen to your idiotic statement and I quote "BMW's aren't reliable because that's literally the point of German cars" what moronic statement, here's another one. "German cars, they are luxury not reliable" So what you just said is that German Automotive companies are incapable of building reliable cars because they are luxury cars SMH🤣😂😅 . Go tell that to Mercedes, Porsche, Audi or BMW engineers. LMAOOOOO, in words of Forrest Gump regarding you "Stupid is as stupid does". your just another narcissistic snowflake ass🤡🤡🤡. So your family has been over paying for years why isn't that nice. Thank you proving my point for me haha I quote "the repair bill were as expensive as we expected" pricless 🤣👍the price for driving ultimate driving machine I guess. Do you know what resale value of 5 series or 7 series cars are after 5 years? Less than half of there original MSRP at 10yr mark they are down to just 10% of there original cost! M5 hold there value better due to there performance base nature same goes for M2,M3 and M4. They retain their value at much higher rate than standard BMW. Now isn't this perfect, BMW grammar Nazi. How poignant I wonder if there is correlation between the too. Hey Fedora your grammar isn't perfect either " SO MY FAMILY HAS OWNED 3 BMW'S YET. " dumb ass. Fedora, in May 2008 for my B-day I purchased new 2008 E90 M3 it handle great was fast and one month later the problems began. I had problems with DCT transmission, they eventually fixed that issue with replacing DCT transmission ECU several times. Nav screen failed after 5000k miles, my electronic steering would lock up. And other issues. My M3 spent more time at the dealership than me driving it. I spent 18 months fighting BMW of North America to get M3 processed through lamon law. Eventually I won my case. I took my money and purchased 2011 ISF. Oh the M3 with taxes was 72k my ISF with tax 70k. I can afford to buy what I want. But only pompous fool would make assumptions that I couldn't purchase BMW after already owning one. Its obvious you know nothing about cars what they're capable of how they're built what they cost. Only arrogant fool would make that assumption. After nearly 10yrs My ISF has 103,000 miles and running like a clock just normal maintenance oil, tires, etc. My ISF is currently FBO running RR Racing Tuned with Tuned intake running E30 blend, with Kwv3 coilovers with other suspension components. Oh my ISF came from factory with Alcantara seats 16 way adjustable seats in front and in rear Alcantara leather and headliner all soft touch leathers navigation. Mark Levinson 16 speaker sound system BBS rims Brembo 6 pistons calpers 14in brembo front rotor and 13in Brembo rotors in back paired with massive 2 piston brembo rear caliper and rotors along with Torsen limited slip differential. Yamaha F1 race team made head with titanium lifters, Lexus designed the 2UR with forged crank and forged rods. It has both duel port and direct port injection seversl years before BMW, Mercedes and Audi no walnut blasting needed on my ISF unlike on BMW's. The 8-speed transmission used in Lexus ISF and LS came out several years before anyone else. Now BMW use 7speed 8speed 10 speeds transmission. BMW was Yrs behind Lexus in these areas. My ISF is just one of my 3 cars. But it's my fav car we have family SUV and s550 Mustang GT another fun car. I'll be trading that in for C8Z06 when they come out. Calling me Porsche fanboy why thank you. I'm big fan of Porsche they build some of best performance car ever. I'll take any Porsche over BMW anyday. Why would I take step back and by BWW. I'd take Cayman 718 GTS over M4 anyday let alone 911 Carrara or Carrara S GTS or any 911 over M4/M3, M5 or M6. Porschc makes one of best drivers car with fanastic handling as well as reliable car. Those are facts you can try to spin them anyway you choose. It doesn't change facts. You haven't presented one shred of evidence proving your point. All you have done so far is to proved nothing but your personal biased opinion. Your hilarious, luxury really BMW interior haven't changed essential with same layout and look of their interior since 2007 they all look nearly identical from cheap 2 series to 7 series. Luxury interior Audi, Mercedes make great looking interiors, look at Lexus LS or LC500 universal claimed to have one of the best interior currently made of any automotive manufacturer by journalist vloggers and public. Luxary really you can get Honda Accord, Toyota Camery, VW's, Genesis, Hyundai, Kia they all offer 80% of what you can in any BMW Lexus, Mercedes or Audi today. These are facts not opinions, you do know what they say about opinions right? They are like assholes everyone has one. All you've presented have been opinions. A recent study took look at average cost of ownership of 30 different automotive companies after 10yrs. Hey princess 👸👸 check this information out you might find it interesting but then again you probably won't since you clearly stated "BMW's aren't reliable because that's literally the point of German cars" the list goes from most expensive to least. Cost of ownership after 10years. Crown your just another 🤬mad crybaby🍼🍼 😭 BMW Fangirl with her tonga in bunch you should rallly do something about that. Cost of ownership after 10yrs. 1. BMW COST $17,800 2. MERCEDES $12,900 3. CADILLAC $12,500 4. VOLO $12,500 5. AUDI $12,400 Let's skip to some cars companies in middle of this list 10. Dodge $10,600 11. ACURA $9,800 12. INFINITI $9,300 13. FORD $9,100 14. KIA $8,800 15. LAND ROVER $8,800 Let's drop down to bottom, least expensive 26. Mitsubishi $7,400 27. Honda $7,200 28. Lexus $7,000 29. Scion $6,400 30. Toyota $5,500 What schmuck your are. Do you even own BMW? one that you brought with your own money or are you using one of mommy or daddy cars. So go head uber Fangirl explain your logic especially to owners of BMW's when you tell them BMW's are all unreliable my bad all German cars are unreliable because they are luxury built cars try explaining that to German car owners.
Great vid. The most important point: MAKE SURE YOU FIND A GOOD REASONABLY PRICED INDY MECHANIC before you buy one of these. You NEVER want to have to take it to the dealership. I am an indy mechanic and get many of these in my shop. I have heard horror stories of dealerships flat out ripping people off all the time. They wanted to replace all his injectors in this video without even starting with coil packs! And 4k USD for new index 12 injectors is insane. If you find the right mechanic they can be reasonable to maintain. For example, I remove, fully rebuild and reinstall turbos on these for $1500 Canadian dollars. Dealership wants 6k for new turbos etc. I've owned my 335i for a couple years now. It's an amazing car and well worth the money spent for repairs and upgrades. I've only had a few injectors and fuel pump fail, otherwise it's been great. For the money they are hard to beat for what they can do when modified
Honest assessment. Truthfully, when taken care of these cars are as reliable as any other. I remember hearing a long time ago that as performance goes up in a car, reliability goes down. However, preventative maintenance goes a long way towards the longevity of performance vehicles as well as the actual performance of the car. Can’t wait to see what you got coming next! Appreciate your help and content big dawg!!!
Meanwhile I’ve been dailying a fbo upgraded turbos n54 based e90 on a 28psi map for 4 years and other than the factory molded coolant flange , no issues. And I Beat the living shit out of this car and I mean beat it like the red headed stepchild.....
FCP Euro & ECS Tuning as well as Turner motorsports have been so valuable to me as far as sourcing good BMW Parts.BTW I really dig your channel. Your content is very informative and realistic for us DIY guys that love to tinker on our rides.
I replaced all the same things you mentioned here on my N54 in a 12k mile period but still enjoy it and the knowledge of repairing it yourself make you appreciate it more.
I have 156k miles on my e60 550i msport, only had to do regular maintenance, cooling system, some sensors. It’s best car I’ve had, if you can afford to maintain it, I do my own work. People always ask me - “it must be expensive to maintain,” I tell them yes if you take it to the dealer. Great video, too much misinformation on internet about BMW’s. My wife drives e91 wagon and loves it, N52 probably most reliable motor BMW made, just need to refresh cooling system every 80-100k miles.
I just recently bought an '08 335xi with an N54 and automatic (X drive equipped)... super clean inside and out, 132,000 miles. It has a few minor problems (valve covers leak, radiator just cracked on driver's side tank, tires and a blown strut on the right front). All of which I have purchased replacement parts for. How much did I pay for my "unreliable" 335.... $5,000.00 US Even with all of the repair parts ( I do most repair work myself), I have under $6500 invested... and absolutely love this little car! I will be following your build for idea's and insight... to keep it reasonably reliable and fun. Thanks for sharing your story with us
I drove a 335i once when I used to work at a auto shop. Not sure if it was a n54 or n55, but it was a total blast to drive.. I ended up buying a 2009 328i manual trans last week and its alot of fun.. Ill own a 335i some time, who knows when!
Man, you're absolutely right. I used to kind of hate on BMW until I drove one and HOOOOLY CRAP, I loved it so much! This is definitely an ultimate driving machine!
I owned a 2003 E46 330i M package 6 speed stick for 11 years. With all the problems it gave me, when I sold that car I felt like it was the biggest mistake I ever made. 2 weeks ago, 6yrs later I purchased a super clean 2011 335i with 95k miles. Tranny has been rebuilt 1 month before I bought it. And I love this car it has the MHD 2 stage tuning. Just a beast of car! I have been watching your vids and I truly appreciate your passion for these pain in the ass cars. I'm back in the high octane club and ready to do as much diy as i can do. But, you really cant compare how these cars drive to any other car. Thats What Brings you Back!
if you have the money just g with the 440i with the b58 or the m4 with the s55 and be good and dont really worry about big faults. these engines were the change for bmw and brought them in a new reliable age
Great video! 196k on my 335i. My daily. These cars are meant to be drivin not babied. I've owned several BMWs but the 335 and 535 cars were never on my radar. Certainly they are not your average commuter BMW. They are a completely different car (beast) Amazing at least! At 55 years old I bought mine when I broke up w my girlfriend 3 years ago. Happened when a kid brought his 535 in to sell at my used car dealership. I had no experience with BMW turbo cars... Just was not into German cars much unless I was flipping them and even then I was not a BMW fan. I test drove the car and I could not believe the performance and handling! I was blown! With over 30 years in the car business I have owned Corvettes, Porsches and tons of other sports cars. My 335 quickly became my new relationship. It was just the perfect car for me and yes just like a girlfriend or wife or kids you will get out of it what you put into it. Heart aches will happen but the satisfaction you get from humbling yourself and maintaining it, is irreplaceable! This car has restored my soul in so many ways.. take it from a car guy that fell in love with a sexy German at first (drive) site. Carsex all over again! Oh yeah.. my girlfriend and I got back together 9 months after we broke up and we are now inseparable. So now I have 2 serious relationships at the same time! Life's beautiful!
the 5 series is a really nice car to drive, drove a e61 530, was smooth like butter and felt like a heating iron on the road, lovely car (and i used to drive lexus!)
I got in the groove of listening to everyone about my sti and it just made me not want to even drive it out of fear that something would go wrong. I'm fully capable of pulling the motor and replacing head gasket and all the other things that are commonly known to brake. That dont mean I want to cause it is my daily. I've been driving my car for years and no problems. Most of the negative comments are from inexperienced car owners that dont take the right steps to keep their car in working order. Whatever car it is it had its flaws and you're responsible of fixing them. Dont neglect your car just to save money. If you cant afford it dont get it.
This video is spot on, my only thing about buying a Toyota, I went on to Lexus, it just depends where you’re at in life, while I was single BMW was the way to go and I had a m3, and I would work on the car most of the time, it was not bad and as unreliable as most think, but you have to stay on top of preventative maintenance that most cars don’t from bushing to valve jobs. Now that I’m married with kids I fall into the I don’t have time to maintain the car myself and cost of repairs. A warranty is a must. Would I get another BMW, maybe, but with other responsibilities like kids, home ownership, etc. I believe that’s when people gravitate to Lexus from BMW.
To me the most important thing is, when you buy any N54 vehicle get a official BMW buying check done. I didn't, I wish I did. Great video btw, I agree on all points. one year owner. Perhaps an idea is to make a video of alternatives to the N54 335i. I guess one is the N55 335i
I've been saving up and I'm looking to get a car this summer and I've gone on and off on the car I want but now I'm thinking I might go BMW. It'd be my first personal car and I know nothing about BMW and all the different models and trim levels but the community for it seems awesome and I've been learning a lot. I might go with something lower on the BMW tree but man the 335i seems so good. No matter which one I get I plan on enjoying this summer just cruising and working on it. Awesome video dude!
Thanks for both this and the 5 reasons to buy one videos. I just purchased one (modded). As a Mom It's good to know there are some things I can fix on it before taking it somewhere to get fixed.
Currently looking at a 335is. Will not be my daily as I want time to do DIY and know my car inside and out. Owned a 335i for a year until someone wrecked into me :( but otherwise no issues
I am fan of BMW and it’s a dream car watching your channel had help me decide to go buy one. Thanks for the videos now I know how amazing they are and what to expect.
I bought a new 2009 335i, and never had issues until HPFP went bad which BMW put a recall out for. Was definitely 1 of my favorite top 10 cars. Had a 2004 530i and it was super reliable with no issues. Then, there was the E60 M5. This car hands down was my favorite, but.... the maint and parts is ridiculously priced. I had it for about 1.5 year, and it spent more time in the garage than physically driving it. I mean the SMG3 trans was by far the worst transmission to work on, then there was the Vanos solenoid issues. There are 4 installed on the S85, and each 1 is priced from $1400 all the way past $2000 depending where you shop. Also, the tolerances is way to too tight on the rod bearings. These bearings are known for going bad in the first 20,000 miles to 60,000. Super rare to see rod bearings last longer than that. That was a $3500 job btw. And in the end, the hardest part about working on these cars is actually getting software that works for clearing codes and running adaptations etc etc. BMW software for those cars absolutely sucks. With all the work I put in to it and then the work my indy put into it, I spent alittle over 10k in the 1st year. When the car operated like it was suppose to, it was the best car ever lol.
Bought an 09 335i in 2013 - had 50k miles on it. Was such a fun car to drive - and with a Cobb tune, very quick. Burnt oil from day one, constantly had issues with error messages relating to taillight being out (but wasn’t), due to tune, burnt through spark plugs like no one’s business (obviously this isn’t the car’s fault), needed to have fuel injector replaced, interior was trash (peeled in certain areas due to cheap materials). Overall, really fun to drive - but a lot to maintain. Nice for a 2nd vehicle - but unless you’ve got money to throw around, not a daily driver.
I get the idea of owning a dream car rather then a reasonable car. People would be happier and more productive If they did what made them happy no matter what people tell them. I need to get a sports car with highish miles as a daily so my commute Is more enjoyable. I drive 300-400 miles a week so I don't want a really nice new daily.
I own my dream car 2009 335I N54 twin turbo E92 . I bought it 6 years ago with 32,000 miles..went through oil pan, valve cover, oil filter housing gaskets, new water pump, I DIY new coils, Index 12 injectors, 5" intercooler, twin cone intakes, and ECS charge pipe...I will be doing a walnut blast soon and my next mod replace pipes with Vanguard cad backs.. it has 133,000,,,i change oil every 3,000 miles like clock work...I drive no less the 80 MH on the freeway I try not to race it either but i do hit the paddle over 120 easy, smooth and comfortable, I LOVE MY CAR
Hi VV.. I Had 07 335i CPE 80kkm (write off).. Now 2011 335is 85kkm (both n54/both 6 SPD manuals). I like everything you have to say . Its intelligent and responsible.
Have a 2007 BMW E90 N54 love it .. work on it myself when i can 0ver 100,000 ks on the clock now just had a stage 1 tune and transmission tune... night and day even more fun now.
Solid video man! Finally someone putting their foot down and break it down logically for all the bmw haters. Goodjob! And keep up the informative and supportive content!
i love this video man. i’m looking into my first car right now i was gonna go 335i but i don’t like how the E90 looks and i wanna be able to carry all my friends so right now i’m thinking audi c6 s6 with the 5.2 V10. all people have tried to do is scare me away from it but i think i’m gonna buy it.
After I wrecked my 328xi e90 I wanted a 335i e90 bad. Took me 2 years of hearing about how unreliable n54s are to finally say screw it, and then found a clean 09 335i. Love the car, FBO with mhd 2+ tune currently. Fits the kids, and fun as hell to drive. No regrets.
I own a bmw ... E90 .... Its been the worst mistake ive made .... With oil leaks ... Radiator hoses .... Plastic valve cover cracked ... Broken ac .... And alot more ... It has 70 k miles .... I love it when its not at the shop .... But my next car will be a lexus or toyota ... There is a reason for their reputation ...
So basically don't buy a BMW if you're an idiot that will let a manufacturer f*** you without lube. Bmw literally takes advantage of idiots with $$$$ And all you people just keep letting them. Here's what to do.... if you want a performance turbo engine, KNOW HOW TO FIX, MAINTAIN, AND PROPERLY OPERATE YOUR VEHICLE. $4k for a fuel injector service is literal RAPE. Who TF would just be like ok BMW, thank you for fixing my car??????
Hey man, just wanted to say thanks for the video! I've been debating on buying a 335i for a long time and been so back and forth on it. I'm looking at an 07 e92 with 84,000 miles been very skeptical cause of all the bad things and expensive things people talk about. This video helped a lot man thanks.
Just wanted to add one correction, the only recalls you pointed out aren’t recalls. They’re extended warranties! There is a difference, but you were on the right track! Love the content here.
All this is true. Had a 07 335i convertible that had all those problems. I looved the car but Finally got rid of it after its last $$$ disaster and 65000 miles of issues. I traded it in for a 6 month old 2016 CPO 2 series with extended warranty and now at 52000 miles its been perfect. Id consider a 3 series again but definitely one newer than the 07s which seemed to have the most trouble.
Bumped into your video doing some research about getting out of VW. Crazy you live in orlando, im on the east side. Right now a 335i is out of my budget though. Real good info, good job.
When I bought my 2015, 335i, I almost passed on the Warranty because I think I’m want my monthly payments to be $30 more. The dealer looked at me and said dude you’re buying a BMW wouldn’t you wanna go to sleep at night knowing your car is gonna be taken care of? I went ahead and did it within the week, the AC compressor went out, a $1000 job. After that, the oil pan and then coil pack number three. Warranty is the best thing you can put on your BMW so that you can enjoy the ride.
I also have an e39. I heard it was reliable, but I've been unlucky. But it's also due to the fact that I am the first owner out of three to use it regularly as a commuter. 100mile commute to be exact. But it's been great, just need to solve a rattling issue ONLY when accelerating and a funky shifting transmission that did shift flare while in traffic on the highway and always in 5th. But it's definitely better than my other options which would have had be doing 0 60 in 8-9 secs vs 6 like a typical car today
Make sure if y’all going to modify this car, upgrade ur dme to msd81 OR get the mosfet service done on your current msd80 dme. Don’t get left on the road.
I love the like joke about Scotty lol. You are right. Most non car enthusiasts don’t think of the small things. They think cause “I have a BMW, I can show off”. The reality is that you need to respect your BMW. And know your limitations when it comes to your driving skills. BMW’s are rolling art. Plus it German, so it over engineered to some degree. Germany is god workshop after all. And I can respect a beautiful looking car rolling down the road. Car enthusiasts know what they are driving. How to care it the vehicle. They know the Pedegree of the vehicle. Another great video man.
Dude, my N55 has racked up over $100K in warranty and mostly non-warranty work. The most pricey repair was the BMW master tech fishing sheared VANOS bolt heads out of the oil pan. That was 2 weeks of full time labor alone, from a fleet-wide straight 6 recall.
I will say I love my 335i but I definitely made some mistakes when I bought it I was the third owner after purchasing it. Id definitely recommends having $1,000 or more saved before buying and check the service records not a bad idea to have your mechanic inspect it before purchasing it. I've owned my BMW for a year and a half I pretty much purchased it and after a month started doing maintenance and tuning it. I started with mhd stage 1 plus it was fine ran good but wanted more power did the intercooler and catless downpipes and a couple month later blew the dme cost me $1400 and my clutch started slipping. this post is getting long not trying to bad mouth the 335i I love mine but when you purchase used you don't know how the previous owner drove or maintained it.
Really enjoyed your video & I'm going to check out the Z4. Probably going too buy 1 . Doing my home work first really want a 650 I convertible. Just don't know a Lot about the car yet. Thanks 4 your video!!!✌
The thing about that is. If people stop buying them until they make them more reliable ,most likely will make them more reliable. But if you keep buying them they will just keep making them cheaply , and you would never truly get your money worth. It’s a little thing called supply and demand.
No. They will just make less of them and charge more per unit. That’s supply and demand. The laws of supply and demand do not have anything to do with the quality of a product.
J'Are Mansa That doesn’t make sense. Nobody would buy a Big Mac if they charge $40 for them. They will just simply stop making them or make them cheaper or improve them in some kind of way.
Same thing happened to me when i got my 535i. Guy told me car had no issues or lights i get 10 miles down the road and it had a check engine. I called bmw told them it was a cylinder missfire they said to change all coil packs and sparkplugs it would be roughly 4 grand. I laughed at them and said ill do it myself. i bought the 15$ sparkplug socket and all coils for 200 and sparkplugs for 125 and changed them myself no check engine no other issues or missfires.
I appreciate the honest assessment of why and why not buy a 335i. What about the cost to insure one, or that does vary by driver. On a side note I had the privilege of driving BMWs, mostly friends' and all of them 5 series and they are pretty smooth cars. I think you need some patience when maintaining one. Thanks for making the job easier with an online community of BMW owners to offset the online community of BMW bashers
My 2014 335i xDrive is going under the scalpel soon, 57K miles on it and no issues and it looks brand new. I would be happy with 350-400awhp with 400awtq. It's really a winter car for me so I don't need much. The good news is I wrench on my own cars...
I've been watching ur vids for a mo th now. 2 months ago I got me a 550i XDrive Msport... yes, u got more Hp than I .. just wow. I like ur dedicated action to the brand. This is my second BMW. First o e was a 330xi back in 2010. U are right about the preventive main on these. Anyway love the vids, keep em coming. Cant do much tunning on mine since warranted is still in effect as is maintenance services both to 100k. Take care.
Thank you for this video and the predecessor. I have a 2008 BMW 335xi, and your experiences pretty much mirror my own. Yes, it has its flaws. Yes, you need to know what you are getting into. Yes, you need to be comfortable working on it or have a good indie shop. But there is so much GOOD about it. Also, thanks for the tip on the rattle. I always assumed it was just the car getting warm, now I know I should look a bit deeper.
AND for those who dont like BMW - Just get an american car. . . . you will have a car for the rest of your life, because nobody will by it from you - lol
great video man very informative I bought an 06 Volkswagen Golf GTI in April best vehicle I've ever owned so far my friends own BMW's I love the golf because it is quick Nimble and excellent on gas I'm thinking about keeping everything stock except for the suspension this vehicle is excellent on the twisty roads here in Oregon
Dude you rock. I love my 2016 Mazda 6 and I'm not giving that up...so ill give it to my daughter in a few years and grab a 335i. Love the channel bro! Love the Scotty rep lolololololololol!!!
I bought a 2006 BMW 325xi last year despite the "unreliable" noise and comments I heard about BMWs. Even though over the last year I've had it I've spent money replacing spark plugs, battery, coils, and tires (regular & expected shit imo, especially with an older car), it now drives like a dream, especially in the snow when DTC is on, and I absolutely love my car. I'm planning on buying a 335i now as my 2nd car but still keeping my 325xi =D. Once you own a BMW it's hard to go back.
101% True, I own a 2007 e91 325xi and get a loooooad of stuff and people just keep coming at you with their #financialmistake advice while owning the most faceless and dull cars ever built, so... never listen to them, just keep on the consistent approach with zero compromise and shortcuts (they are always cost a lot)
@@felmin809 yap, I woke up today replacing oil cooler line on my 535xi. The shop quoted me $550, bought the part on fcpeuro for $180 saved my self $370 by doing it myself. I am sure in a month there is going to be another problem
I used to own a 2011 n55 coupe back in the day when it first came out, but i have a chance to get e93 n54 with low miles on the cheap. The N55 was hell tho lol water pump, radiator, ac compressor, spark plugs and coils, expansion tank, head bolts, charge pipe, also half the lights went out had to change a a fuse box. They say n54 is even more less reliable lol
First car 118d 90kw mapped to 120kw m47 engine driven from 200k to 290k , second car BMW 135i put around 100, now Audi A7 3.0 tfsi .. BMW are really for enthusiastic drivers which just love it in moment they sit in it , just make sure to have money aside for maitance and good mechanic which knows the bmw. Cars have tons of overcomplicated stuff so it's gonna be harder to do it yourself then let's say Toyota. But it's just side of the view
I was debating on a bmw. I'm coming from a WRX so not new to DIY work but man I dont have the time for that constant tinkering and honestly need a break.. I sq with videos and dont mind some work but I'm hearing high maintenance..I already got a wife I'll pass. Great vids tho
I can agree with you on everything in here but from my experience I cant agree with the unreliable part (not yet). I have had my 2010 535i (same as the 135i and 335i just bigger) for about a year and a half now and it has 122xxx miles and I don't have any problems with any of the "common problem parts". i.e. fuel system (hpfp, lpfp, ekpm, injectors), gaskets (valve cover, oil pan, filter housing), turbos (no wastegate rattle), cooling (original water pump). I also have the full service history and nothing has been replaced besides basic maintainence. And believe me when I say I am NOT nice to my car, I drive it the way a BMW is supposed to be driven (like a sports cars), so I completely agree with you about maintainence, do it regularly (for me every 3500 miles and car washes every Saturday) and they will last forever. And as far as the negative remarks from everyone about how bad they are, just stay off the Facebook BMW groups and you won't have anything to worry about.
I've had two BMW's. The first one was a 3 series 328i, it was automatic it made me hate automatic transmissions because transmission repair was 3,400 the next one was a 528i 97 manual I would definitely get that car again right now I own a Benz with manual transmission. I agree with what you say get the car that you like cuz hey you got to drive it.
Great video man! I love this car and might get the 335i for my next car. However this isn't a car I would recommend. I would have never got into Euro tuners if I wasn't a mechanic with 10 years experience. Just the maintenance on cars like this will hurt the pocket. If you want reliable and affordable get an Accord.
If you're hooked on a BMW ... well then you're hooked.. I used my fair amount of money on my E90 the last approx 8 years... have no regrets whatsoever... price vs Fahrenfreude is more than reasonable.. would do it again. period..
I would suggest that you do some research on the Automatic that is in your 2008 335i. It is an incredible piece of engineering and can handle amazing amounts of torque and power. Far more than the 300ish HP it came with. That said I'm a die hard manual fan. But I owned an automatic tuned (same as your mods) 2008 335i as well. The transmission was never a problem and I slammed it as much, often and as hard as I wanted when I wanted. I owned it for three years. The trans never even gave peep. I didn't care for the paddle shifters though as they delayed so much.
@@VehicleVirals Ahh. I should have looked into tuning the trans when I had it. That was one of the reasons I sold it. But I sold it to get an E46 M3. I love the M3 but miss the power kick of the tuned 335i. The choice for me was either I spend a hoop of money putting in a Limited slip Diff (I need to hang my back end out LOL) and up grade the sport suspension or try the M car. I love both in reality LOL.
Nice video brother. Honestly though i want to get a M4 one of these days when I do i want to be in tune with the car working on it 90% of the time changing oil and filter, brakes, fluids, etc.

My guy just turned "5 reasons why you shouldn't buy a BMW" to "you should" with this video. This videos makes me wanna buy it more LOL
Thanks for the insights.
come to europe and fix it for 1/8 of the price you get in murica
Thanks for keeping the 335 content coming Christian!! Can't wait for your custom headlights to come in!!
I can't wait neither, glad you've been sticking around! 👊🏼
I think we can all agree with the point to buy what you want regardless of social stigma 👏🏾 if you’re a car guy it’s the best way to live
🙏🏼
True words bro, cheers from Scotland!!
So glad I found your channel. I'm in the Tampa area and just bought a 335i. Thank you for doing this.
Loved the shots at Scotty part. LMAOOOOOO
Luckily I have a local BMW specialized garage. Prices are GREAT, service is really good and they know even better that the dealership what might/could be wrong with your car. They help you with minor things for free too. They don't repair stuff if it's not needed, honest people working over there.
Your channel has convinced me to buy a Toyota.
Hopefully this helps.
flyingrv6 ........... shut the fuk up
@@TheDavcrz5 Alright, so my family has owned 3 BMWs yet.
1. BMW COST $17,800
2. MERCEDES $12,900
3. CADILLAC $12,500
4. VOLO $12,500
5. AUDI $12,400
Let's skip to some cars companies in middle of this list
10. Dodge $10,600
11. ACURA $9,800
12. INFINITI $9,300
13. FORD $9,100
14. KIA $8,800
15. LAND ROVER $8,800
Let's drop down to bottom, least expensive
26. Mitsubishi $7,400
27. Honda $7,200
28. Lexus $7,000
29. Scion $6,400
30. Toyota $5,500
What schmuck your are.
Crown Fedora You basically said your family only bought BMWs for the name lmao
Great video, I have owned 16 BMWs and still own 3 (04-E60, 08-E93, 2011-F01). I agree with all you said. "ITS A BMW...TREAT IT LIKE ONE"
For the money they are hard to beat for what they can do when modified
so why do you listen to what you heard? I have had BMW's many years and its the best car - much better than MB (Mercedes)
Appreciate you watching 👊🏼
Meanwhile I’ve been dailying a fbo upgraded turbos n54 based e90 on a 28psi map for 4 years and other than the factory molded coolant flange , no issues. And I
Beat the living shit out of this car and I mean beat it like the red headed stepchild.....
How's it running now???
Joseph it’s in the junk yard now

You needa update now..currently saving up for one lol
There's usually pros and cons to about every car, you just have to love the car enough to happy with your choice😁
$5,000.00 US
Even with all of the repair parts ( I do most repair work myself), I have under $6500 invested... and absolutely love this little car!
I will be following your build for idea's and insight... to keep it reasonably reliable and fun.
Thanks for sharing your story with us
Rick Brown how is your bmw treating you ? And do you drive it aggressively on the daily
I drove a 335i once when I used to work at a auto shop. Not sure if it was a n54 or n55, but it was a total blast to drive.. I ended up buying a 2009 328i manual trans last week and its alot of fun.. Ill own a 335i some time, who knows when!
Despite the complaints, I'm only trusting ones who owned a 3 series that was taken care of.
I love my 335i Sedan. Its had issues at 180,000 but all cars do. But hands down the best car I have ever drove. Handles well and its a beast.
if you have the money just g with the 440i with the b58 or the m4 with the s55 and be good and dont really worry about big faults. these engines were the change for bmw and brought them in a new reliable age
That's a beautiful story ❤️
the 5 series is a really nice car to drive, drove a e61 530, was smooth like butter and felt like a heating iron on the road, lovely car (and i used to drive lexus!)
You have a very good style dude, You were made to do car reviews bro.
I did just sell my BMW but I still watch your videos.
Appreciate you! 👊🏼
Great series! You can’t a great break down both positive and negative. You got me interested in this car!
Sorry to hear about your 335i. Good luck getting the 335is you want though! 😊
I am fan of BMW and it’s a dream car watching your channel had help me decide to go buy one. Thanks for the videos now I know how amazing they are and what to expect.
Glad to hear it 👊🏼
I bought a new 2009 335i, and never had issues until HPFP went bad which BMW put a recall out for.
Not a bmw owner but this and your other video is very informative. Own a Toyota but I've always been a bmw fanboy
Haha nice cameo from Scotty!!! Not too sure I would follow his advice. Great subject for video. Love my 435i.
I am completely agreed with you. I bought a new 2008 BMW 335 and the repair was endless after 4 years when the warranty was expired.
No regrets.
That's awesome man! Isolate yourself from the noise! 😎
Did you regularly service it because thats how youll keep a car from having problems and fix small problems before they get bigger
@@Ethankeenan02 I'm wondering if everything that was broken was in the maintenance schedule.
If it's a SULEV, (N51 engine) most of this should be covered under the SULEV warranty of 100k/15 years.
Glad I could help!
Just wanted to add one correction, the only recalls you pointed out aren’t recalls. They’re extended warranties! There is a difference, but you were on the right track! Love the content here.
HPFP was a voluntary recall and then got slapped with an extended warranty.
I just turned 16 and I bought my first car, a e90 335i, I’ve had it for just over a week now and I’m loving it too bits
very informative, unbiased review thanks man
You're welcome!
Bumped into your video doing some research about getting out of VW. Crazy you live in orlando, im on the east side. Right now a 335i is out of my budget though. Real good info, good job.
Not too far at all, small world.
Keep the vids coming!! Great stuff!
I love my e39! Huge difference in performance and quality from my corolla i used to have.
Very informative for anyone looking into buying a BMW for the first time. I hear the same thing with my Subaru.
💯
It depends on the owner. I have 730li '13 and I've been going *offroad* with it (because I had to) for 6 years and it's all good.
This guy literally lives in my city, small world
Dude, my N55 has racked up over $100K in warranty and mostly non-warranty work.
Great advice bro, another solid upload. Love my 335i!
👊🏼
Really enjoyed your video & I'm going to check out the Z4. Probably going too buy 1 . Doing my home work first really want a 650 I convertible. Just don't know a Lot about the car yet. Thanks 4 your video!!!✌
That local cars and coffee event clip was actually my local cars and coffee 😂
Thank you for a honest and well presented view on this car.
Love my 09 335xi and although I’ve bein fighting with misfire issues like you still love the car
Great video. Very practical and informed opinions. And funny too.
I wonder if you ever wish you had a manual transmission???
Actually like the automatic for this car since it's my daily. If I were to get an older BMW it would be stick for sure.
Take care.
Appreciate you!
Awesome dude!
I had a 335i coupe it was such a fun car, but I hated the amount of times I had to buy new parts😭 I sold it and got an frs😅
Mike Gonzalez hahah yeah I got rid of mine and got a Mk7 GTI
Dude you rock. I love my 2016 Mazda 6 and I'm not giving that up...so ill give it to my daughter in a few years and grab a 335i. Love the channel bro! Love the Scotty rep lolololololololol!!!
👊🏼
That's good that you put both sides of the ownership. Pros and Cons
The Scotty part had me dead ass spitting out my beer.
Toyota never got me laid. BMW brings me women...
rickbangkok you need a bmw to get laid lmao
101% True, I own a 2007 e91 325xi and get a loooooad of stuff and people just keep coming at you with their #financialmistake advice while owning the most faceless and dull cars ever built, so... never listen to them, just keep on the consistent approach with zero compromise and shortcuts (they are always cost a lot)
Most of the BMW ovners drives like crazy and expect the car to tolerate all the shit they do. Drive normally and you will hyave a car you will love!
You only live once so get a car you love or youll regret it
🙏🏼
How much have you spent in maintenance for it the past few years?
Funny how no one answered.
Beautiful car but this comes at a cost.
Too much can go wrong with these cars.
He pretty much has said everything he has done and how much maintenance is in the two videos of why and why not to buy this car
If you can't do most mentainace your self, don't buy one.
@@VicMansaMusa having this car is like walking on egg shells
🤷♂️
Nice video mate.
Dope videos man, great content👍🏿👍🏿
Glad you like them! 👊🏼
I used to hate BMWs due to the negative criticism till I drove a 535i and a 740LI, I instantly fell in love.
And as far as the negative remarks from everyone about how bad they are, just stay off the Facebook BMW groups and you won't have anything to worry about.
you've got good bmw content bro!
Paddles don't delay at all when a trans tune from Alpina or xHP
Yessir!
