    As a SEE owner I can say with certainty, I will get scared and chicken out before the machine ever does.

    No matter how loud you yell Freightliner everyone who knows anything know that just about every European country and others ave been using UNIMOG for decades. The range of implements available for UNIMOG is wide ranging for farming, construction, fire fighting and more. If the Army spent any money "designing and testing" this they need to be spanked. All the attachments are off the shelf. If America would learn that other countries do some pretty awesome stuff it couldn't hurt.

    Awesome! thanks for posting this. I had always heard the military dropped the 419's out of planes, this proves it!

      I sling loaded and rigged with chutes and pushed them out of perfectly good airplanes, when I was stationed overseas with the 173rd Airborne brigade 501st FSC DS Platoon 4th squad. AIRBORNE!!!

    Freightliner hung a name plate on it but it's 100 perfect Mercedes

      No way! Freightliner added all the stuff that makes them rollover all the time, I'm sure Mercedes made them use the Freightliner name on the SEE/FL419 after about the tenth rollover with professional drivers behind the wheel 🤣 Now imagine PFC Snuffy behind the wheel! (Especially after his battle buddy just had a hydraulic powered chainsaw with no safety braking device kickback into him and needs some immediate medical attention 🤦‍♂️ And that's just when there was a good excuse for how/why you managed to turn one over! 😆👍

    Yeeeees, our testing proved the Freightliner, ahem, Unimog tractor was so exceptional and versital, that the geniuses in our military decided NOT to use it. Well done.

      kilrassclown eh well if you have ever used a small backhoe like that...it will do in a pinch but is not very useful overall compared to a full size backhoe or excavator...the forklift and loader though seem pretty handy and the truck tractor itself is pretty awesome.

    FREIGHTLINER DESIGNED AND BUILT BY MERCEDES BENZ PLUS THEY have to ship CASE BACKHOES/LOADERS TO GERMANY TO BUILD THESE THINGS

    I support the troops, but i'm sorry, this is a German Unimog. Why do i get the feeling they purposely left that bit out, while at the same time trying to insinuate that it's American? Regardless the Mercedes Benz Unimog is ridiculously capable on and off road and provides an invaluable service, I think it would be dumb for the military not to use it, I just wish they would give credit where it is due.

      Freightliner Trucks (Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation, FCCC) is an American truck manufacturer and a brand of Daimler Truck North America LLC, the largest manufacturer of heavy-duty vehicles in North America. Freightliner was taken over by Daimler-Benz in 1981 and now belongs to Daimler Truck AG. The company's headquarters are in Portland, Oregon. Additional production facilities exist in the United States and Mexico.

    the rops top should have flipped up as they show in the video on the final product. a field repair that would have required tilting the cab would have been impossible without a piece of equipment that could lift the rops off.
    a turbo om342 should have been fitted.
    and those stupid euro fuses should have been replaced by the blade type.
    by rights they should have just used an sbu.

    For a terrane, you can't come through with the Unimog, you need a helicopter

    I hate it they just steal the unimog from Mercedes Benz and give it a new name
    Such idiots they should say WE STEAL A UNIMOG AND JUST RENAMED IT , THAT NOBODY THINKS IT IS GERMAN !

    • @alexanthony08
      @alexanthony08 9 лет назад +6

      Being that Daimler Benz bought Freightliner in 1981, I'd hardly call this stealing. Rather a crafty way for Benz to sell its Unimog to the American Government under it's American subsidiary.

  • @marjannovoselc7109
    @marjannovoselc7109 7 лет назад +1

    Freightliner my ass! It's from Mercedes Benz Germany. Freightliner is just an American subsidiary contractor that built the ones the US military is using. You do that with almost all foreign military systems - you purposely leave out the original manufacturer. You just put on a new name, make few minor changes (to meet the US specs) and pretend it's an american product. Same with other adopted foreign military system like the LAV-25 and Striker 8x8 (originally Swiss Mowag Piranha I and Piranha III), SAW M249 and M240 (originally Belgian FN Herstal FN Minimi and FN MAG), Beechcraft T-6 Texan II (originally Swiss Pilatus PC-9) etc. Shame on you!

    • @Pinzpilot101
      @Pinzpilot101 7 лет назад +1

      I don't think you can say shame on you! Not sure but I believe that there has long been an American Law which is very protectionist (protecting your jobs and industry) which says that first and foremost you should buy an American product if you are a government agency....only if there is no comparable USA made product can you buy overseas..This was just a way of quickly getting round those laws to meet a specific military need....The SEE type Unimog was already in production, doubtless some truck making specialist could have come up with something similar, but after development and testing it would have cost 10 times as much...This did save USA money...I think they have all now been superceeded by UK JCB products...built??? I know not where? maybe UK? maybe in a plant in USA.

      Further to these points, Stephen, this is, without a doubt, a win win situation for Freightliner AND Mercedes Benz, jobs all around.
      I will agree that Freightliner takes a bit of a leap in it's advertised claims, especially around the 11:10 point, so that those viewers who are not aware of Unimog/Mercedes Benz can be mis-lead here in thinking that Freightliner builds these fantastic machines.. Of course it does NOT ! Freightliner is merely the distributor and service center for the Unimog's to the U.S. Military.
      Must have been a helluva contract all the same .
      This video and the narrator look and sound like a on old advertising film from the 1950's.

      @Pinzpilot101 7 лет назад +1

      I have a farm and doubtless a SEE would be useful to me.....it was a great idea, but there are now JCB products that can do the job better...Just wish I owned JCB.....I
      am surprised Caterpillar have not come up with a rival? maybe they will.
