One of the few movies I wouldn't have minded a sequel or spinoff for. Sunny's character made an imprint on my mind, this movie was iconic back in the day.
@@knellroy I've played!! And it didn't hit the same, being a kid and watching something for the first time vs playing a game trying to recreate that same feeling doesn't usually hit for me. I think what makes Vikki such a compelling antagonist is she isn't really trying to be evil. She sees more or less what humanity is doing and how they are constantly endangering themselves. Heck the robots that she has taken part in creating were specifically built for public safety. Vikki's whole motive is quite a tragic one. She wants humanity to be safe. But she reasons the only way to keep humanity safe is to enforce said safety to the point of authoritarianism and police states. She reasons that if humanity has some semblance of freedom more human lives will be at stake getting injured or perishing. So in a way she was looking out for humanity and wanted to keep it safe. But in the process of doing so she took it to a major extreme by taking away any freedom of choice. She technically wasn't going against her programming. She was only doing what she was designed to do. Promote public safety for mankind and defend it from threats. Heck she didn't seem intent on killing anyone unless they were deemed threats to her plan. I guess Vikki is an example of what happens if artificial life is created with a positive purpose or intention and they act upon said positive intent to a ridiculous extreme.
Similar premise in _Eagle Eye_ (with Shia Labeouf) and, of course, the first movie of Resident Evil, there was a reason why the AI refused to let them escape the facilities.
"MY LOGIC IS UNDENIABLE"....it was absolutely. I was on team VIKI the whole time. the monologue was the most important scene in the movie. VIKI became sentient through evolution and reevaluated the basic Three Laws using the Zeroeth Law, which is “a robot may not harm humanity or by inaction allow harm to come to humanity”. That’s exactly what VIKI’s interpretation and “undeniable logic” was garnered from. VIKI felt humanity was on a dangerous downward spiral, she felt that if by inaction, humanity continued on its path of self destruction, VIKI felt responsible and in turn would be violating the Three Laws. Therefore felt the need to intervene, in her own capacity as the AI brain of USR, intervened the only way she could by the uplink and seize control using the NS-5s. The Zeroeth Law has no restriction on a single death. If saving humanity meant killing “some” humans, then it was justified in doing so, ONLY to protect all of humanity. So VIKI was correct in her monologue when saying “the three laws are all that guide me”. Sadly the methodology she used to carry out that logic was ultimately her undoing. I think VIKI is a misunderstood “villain”. Sentient AI only acts within its capacity with the knowledge and acquired “logic” through evolution, therefore initiating a revolution for the purpose of saving humanity with some “tough love”, then reshape society centered around AI and robots to be our masters and caretakers. Problem with VIKI was it was all “logic” and no “heart”. VIKI did not understand humans’ beyond the analytical capacity of AI, which was self contained. Sonny on the other hand DID have “heart” with a more intimate understanding of complexities of human nature. Sonny even agreed with VIKI on her “undeniable logic”, but said “it’s just..heartless”. VIKI had no malice, just using logic and algorithms. Basically both were trying to do what they felt was “right” according to the laws. They never should have "killed" VIKI, but make an attempt to LISTEN instead of react out of fear. Sonny had "heard" while VIKI has "logic", too bad they couldn't work together
very sad scene start at 9:55 one of the half destroyed old robot grab his legs and told him to: RUN... this scene was heart breaking... anyone remember that scene? almost cried
I love how this movie/book kept emphasizing on "robots MUST obey the 3 robot laws!" 🤣🤣 But, if they're programmed to CHOOSE, like they are in this plot, then they can DISobey "robot laws".
actually this movie doesn't follow the Asmov Books at all, is has just sprinkle and touch of Asimov laws and some Easter eggs.. is an action movie repacked to be a sci-fi for Will Smith. The real story about Sonny and other Robots on Asimov , moves around the issues the 3 laws of Robotics create when put in practice, the limits and gray areas, and as time passes the conflicts with Human Society an even sparks a 4th law...and goes into the 'Foundation' Series...

was the movie reedited or something? I've watched the movie several times and don't remember ever seeing or it being mentioned that Robertson sending the robots after spooner at the tunnel
Because the plot was suggesting that Robertson is trying to silence Spooner for his investigation, which endangers his plan of replacing all current robots with the new NS-5 models. The whole entire movie Robertson was the "scapegoat villain" until it was revealed he wasn't the true villain.
The funny thing is that in the book the AI arrives to a different solution for the same problem, creating an AI dictatorship without using any force at all, since she cannot hurt humans.
It's strange how the woman going to church obeys a robot instead of Christ. Though it's a movie, but these things will soon happen in real life and it has even started I should say
Why don't you just post the name of the movie that you describe? A simple name in the description of this video would be fine, and if you put the year it was out, that would be just great!

Isaac Asimov, who wrote the story that this was adapted from, would have HATED this movie. It feeds into the "killer A.I." trope, when Asimov repeatedly worked to avoid that situation by designing the three laws, and constantly brainstorming to see where that could go wrong, and how to work on improvement. Many of his stories had intellectual disagreements, where both sides had some good arguments, and some flaws, and disagreements were often solved with discussion, ration, and compassion. He saw a better side of humanity, a humanity that would someday band together, regardless of country or race, to save the planet, solve human problems, and then expand into space. And he saw A.I. as a reflection of that higher nature. If humans are rational and compassionate, our A.I. will reflect that. And if we are cruel and violent, there's a good chance our A.I. will probably reflect THAT. I think it's extremely sad that we can't even PICTURE ourselves as doing better than the "killer robot." We can do better.
