This is a great representation of 2 types of people. One person just wants to live. The other wants a REASON to live. The reason always seems annoying, until you give it another minute of thought. And all it takes is a distraction to make you think you could have a better life than before. But all it does is ruin what you could have had. A great analogy for what we want vs what we need.

@intriguing Woman Not enough diversity, which increases the chance of mutations due to inbreeding. A too small amount of people would lead to Inbreeding and could mean the end of the species. The more related people are, the higher the chances of certain medical problems are, which becomes even worse given that they probably don't even have the medical skills to aid in said medical problems. When you have 10 000 people, you wouldn't have to worry about your genes becoming too similar. But at 43 that becomes a real significant problem.

I like how the idea of repopulation even exists in these types of movies as if they're going to get past 2 generations before genetic deformities cause every child to die. It's as if they don't know what a genetic bottleneck is.
i had lots of hopes for this series when it came out but i think they did Phils character very unlikable, i had hope he would have not just been a selfish narcissist but later show that he was better only that he didnt know how to show it as he had been alone for so long. But its clear he had always been an ass. Atleast make the guy sympathetic in some way. I kept hoping he would change and show us that he isnt really only like this. But every single time he did something super mean, dumb or weird things over and over again. It became very one dimensional very quickly. That made me lose interest really fast, the first episode was great when you felt bad for the man and was rooting for him when he found another person but as soon as other people joined the group it just became more like a bad drama

Tuscon is probably one of the WORST places to live. Why try to farm in a desert when you have no other humans to help you? Why not live in California with it's varied climate, loads of natural resources, and miles of farmland and orchards?
@@NoName-sp5dp I lived within 30 minutes drive of the San Andreas Fault Line most of my life. I have only had ONE earthquake of note that was "scary" and it was the Loma Prieta in 1989. It had no affect to me or my family other than loss of electricity for a few days. Not something I would worry about in this movie since electricity would be out anyways as systems shut down due to lack of people to run them. As for the fires, they are a natural process that is being held back by humans. This is accumulating an unnatural amount of debris and brush that makes these fires worse than they naturally would be. Many California plants actually rely upon these fires to propagate. After the first "wild" fire went through most of California, I would expect the state to be much safer. Since the character seems to go through the various states, this could happen while he is no where near California and be over or nearly over by the time he arrives. It is VERY rare for the farmland and orchard areas to catch fire anyways since they are kept clear of debris. If a fire did start, it would be noticeable for quite a distance since most farmland is on flat land with good visibility all around. I would expect he would choose a good location that he could maintain and expand in anticipation of people showing up. A map of California would readily tell you that near Visalia would be a good area for farms and fresh water from the Sierra Nevada. Major roads travel from Visalia to Morro Bay if you want a good route to the sea.

I've often wondered what I would do in a situation like that. Obviously you have to find a place to live because sooner or later power won't work due to maintenance not being done so finding a home in AZ makes sense. Then you need to figure out how to garden because even if you find canned foot, it will expire. Then you need to look for running cars, I've always thought an old fashioned Model T would be the one to get due to the hand crank and they are so easy to work on and can even run on kerosene if needed. Finally, would have to make darn sure to not do anything that could break a bone and would have to insure you brush your teeth well because no doctor/dentist.
The lady in this series is actually the smart one because Philip is an overgrown man baby. What was he hoping to get out of finding another human being? A drinking budy to drink away his life? Carol had the right idea. It's no wonder that this series got cancelled with such a weak and disgusting lead.
I think I know how these people weren't affected by the virus and I think it's because most of the lethal viruses(that apparently have like thanos snap type) have been eradicated due to exposure and no living beings or even a very short lifespan. And those 3 who survived might have quarantined/sealed themselves inside rooms that are not enough for viruses to reach them like at the top of a hotel skyscraper. It's possible this virus could be a smoke type that which makes sense but if they are really at the highest altitude (around 400 m) where they can see the whole city, then this virus is a death chaser. I know my bad grammar but I hope u can understand my opinions on this.
Rather than looking for a big house in a city, a rural house with a well, septic tank would be best. Scrounge up the parts for an off-grid solar system with battery storage. Start a garden, gather some chickens for egg production and you'd be good for several years. Eventually the septic tank would have to be pumped (or you'd have to move), and eventually all the batteries in the world would no longer be good. If you were smart, you would have rigged another means of electrical generation or storage by that time.

@intriguing Woman Not enough diversity, which increases the chance of mutations due to inbreeding. A too small amount of people would lead to Inbreeding and could mean the end of the species.

Seems awful that a person can let their life become like that. I'm glad she met someone who could talk some sense into her.
I certainly hope if there’s ever a last man on earth, he’s an educated one who won’t generate so much waste it’s a little time and will learn how to be self-reliant at least.
and if theres ever a last woman in earth, hopefully she aint nagging about every single thing and learn to live life a little.
both of them are two extremes, not just the guy. They're kinda perfect together since the girl can make the man more healthy and not be a wasteful human being, while the guy can make the woman live life and have fun in this grim scenario more instead of following everything according to what society says.
If he’s the last human, what does it matter. Stupid comment.
It wouldn't matter there are too many life skills the modern man has lost. What does a PHD in sociology know about agriculture, aqueducts, animal husbandry, ext. Heck most people don't know the difference between dirt and soil.
Doesn't matter. 1 man would never generate enough waste to matter.

Tuscon is probably one of the WORST places to live. Why try to farm in a desert when you have no other humans to help you? Why not live in California with it's varied climate, loads of natural resources, and miles of farmland and orchards?
Yes. Go to the state with fires and earthquakes
I prefer Florida
@@LxneWxlf702 I'll take infrequent and usually harmless earthquakes over hurricanes every year.

What the hell
I love this statement" let's hope he never gets the two pools confused 😂😂.
