@@sandraschrawder2591 I just started the third book, Dust. The story is superb.
First let me say I thoroughly enjoyed this synopsis, it does make me feel like actually watching the show. Please keep up the great work. The TV show is named Silo.
The book was called 'Wool'.
It’s ok, not everyone can appreciate good tv when companies like Disney train you to enjoy mediocrity at best and just awful shows at worst
I've read the book. I wonder if this will be any good 🤔

Welcome to Plato's Allegory of the Cave, in film form.
there is another one that's better called city of ember
i get that you equate a cave to a underground shelter but no, you dont get it.
As I remember Plato's Cave, it is closer to a choice between the normally accepted blue pill (whereby usual expectations are reenforced) and the red pill whereby the actual real world and life are seen truly.
@@JosephBoxmeyer no, thats the Matrix. you are describing the Matrix.
@@CarlosSpicyweiner-iv8mq yes, I have watched this summary of this movie. You were correcting someone concerning Plato's Cave. My memory was bad. I have read other Plato works, but I read the cave 55 years ago. And yes I know that blue pill red pill is the Matrix. I misremembered that the cave shadows were a similar message.
Vault Tec turned into a more exacting representation of todays modern society.

First seasons were ok, but it just kept dragging on & stretching the plot out to nowhere. 🤣

City of Ember 2008 - similar premise
i remember this, my parents didnt allow me to watch it along with the golden compass movie. weird rule.
Logan’s Run 1976
Silo is the name of the shwo
Great movie
Yeah. City of Ember did it better. A simpler story, told well.
The basic premise of City of Ember is that people had to wait 300 years for the Earth to regenerate, but somewhere over that period of time, both the exit time and the box containing the instructions of what to do when the time came were lost and forgotten. It's been a lot longer than 300 years and the city is beginning to break down. Then a young girl finds the box, which has now automatically opened (via a timer both powered by and timed by atomic decay).
This is Hugh Howley's Wool series.. kinda annoying that isn't mentioned.. it was a well written book series Juliet Nichols was the main character. Each book in the series happened on a a different timeline
*Spoilers*
So to answer some people’s questions about the ‘why?’
I will try and keep it somewhat brief to not completely spoil everything….but from what I can recall, the basic premise is that the ‘Silos’ are actually controlled by a sort of ‘quasi-AI’ programme. The reasoning behind the projections in the suit are to give the participants a reason to clean the lense, because if they were to see that there was a wasteland they may not have the motivation to actually clean the lense for the Silos. And from what I can gather the reason for artifacts of the old world being forbidden is to quash the ‘hope’ of living outside for the Silo dwellers so that they want to stay and survive and then if/when they go out to clean they have this artificial revelation that the outside world is alive and they clean the lense and go to explore…but the suits are intentionally sabotaged so that they die ‘peacefully’ rather than trying to survive outside
Still a completely dumb idea for a movie.
@@derrickcox7761pretty sure it’s a show since it said “the first season” at the end of the video
@@theredstoneengineer6934 that's far worse.
It's a series NOT a movie! And it is really good! Give it a try!! @@derrickcox7761
Interesting. That still leaves the question of "Why?", though.
Like... why would an AI not want them to try to live outside?
They always make the plots so convoluted. The premise is good but all the twists and turns are hard to follow. So in the end, the Earth is still a wasteland ... or not?
I would like to know as well!!!
Read the books! They are great(;
@@macaroniheart444whats the name of the book or books if there were more than one
Does it count if we read the books? Because answering this question would involve spoilers.
@@Yakerina tell me too how does the book end
Puts me in mind of an old 2000AD "Future Shock" where a guy in a bunker insists that "Earth is a garden!", he goes out and... immediately dies to the radiation and chemicals left over even centuries after WW3.
So basically, never trust the government
You sure about that? Because the outside still looked radioactive to me. I don't even know why they put a hologram of a lush green landscape for people to see. If anything, it's the rebels that are tricking people into going outside to get poisoned.
Who would have thought ?
not really, the gov need most of them to believe, and need some of them to not believe the gov.
If 1 silo have pandemic, goes crazy or out of food etc and if everyone know there's other silo they'll try to invade the other silo. but they still need people who doesn't trust government just so that they want to go out and make them want to clean the lens but the people going out have to die in order not to raise curiosity of the other. because if everyone goes out they will die or worse, cause other silo to die.
so the government telling the truth about the outside being toxic, but doesn't tell about other silo, and spread some conspiracy to make someone goes out every couple of years to clean
Exactly
You just figured that out from a fictional video?
Well, that is thoroughly depressing.
Indeed Depressing 😂but it’s also the best thing to compliment sci-fi.
It's 2024 I'm not sure where that far from living in underground bunkers
This all seems so pointless. Why not simply let them out, with a safe suit, no holograms or whatever, and when they see that the world really is a shithole, let them back in? Burn or disinfect the suit, further disinfect the person, then let them back in. They’d come in and say, “Damn, everything really is gone. Thanks for letting me back in.” And then everyone would be 10x more happy and content.
They didn't want people finding the other bunkers. Or as a bit of a spoiler, what lies beyond the bunkers.
yeh but then there will b no bk and no tv show
We don't know why. This is the whole point of the show
Whenever something ridiculous happens... it happens to advance the plot.

That was a wild show
I see a little bit of Pandorum, The Platform and Snowpiercer all in one.
City of Ember
Excellent movie. Two hours, escape and satisfying closure.
The first book in the series, Wool, which this show is based on, was written in 2011. The City of Ember book was written in 2003, so Hugh Howley definitely could have been influenced by it.
The end was not expected 😮 after they kept showing the green and healthy earth outside and the complicated conspiracy
Well, wait for season 2 😂 there might be a twist

Why dont you WRITE the movie name SILO in your video title?
I enjoyed this show but found the central theme conflicting… everyone does know ‘the truth’ - that is, that the Earth is still a wasteland and only habitable with a highly protective suit. I don’t get what’s being ‘hidden’. I also didn’t understand why it was so provocative to see how the Earth used to be - the children’s book - that is entirely consistent with the truth; that is, the Earth used to be like that, and now it isn’t. What’s wrong with people knowing this? I hope a second series will answer such questions!
Well said!
I agree. After we find out that the Earth is indeed not habitable, why not teach everyone why and how Earth used to be? It makes absolutely no sense to hide it. If anything, it creates even more conspiracies and craziness like Silo lol
It explains in the book series, though I can't remember the explanation. It's been years. Books, like always, are better than the show.
Everything is not what it seems.
Read the books if you want to know what's going on
Not sure how close they will follow the books but, this series is one of those stories where there is always another layer to uncover. All I will say is there is people out there that would prefer for humanity to forget everything about the past.

The book series is several orders of magnitude better than the TV show. Hugh Howey released the first book a couple chapters at a time because he was interested in feedback from his readers. Revelation 6:14-17
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Found this a few month ago on Apple tv, never heard of it, never seen it advertised, didn't know it existed. I bing watched the whole series in one day! I got fallout vibes the whole time, this is better than fallout, and exactly what Id expect from people in real life! This Series is Amazing!
The books are better, way better ...
Very long story short, they do, in fact, find other survivors AND the Eden they are looking for. The bunkers were part of an experiment that went on longer than it should have.
I hate stories about modern societies who prohibit parenthood in the fear of overpopulation. In reality, modern societies are dying and the only thing that keeps them afloat is immigration. But in movies overpopulation ALWAYS happen in rich countries.

Sounds like the Fall Out video game series by Bethesda
It is a slow over and over type of show. Also depressing to watch.
Fallout from wish?
This TV show makes absolutely no sense. I am so glad I didn't waste my time watching it all. The ending is absolutely stupid. Who is seeing the hologram and what is the hologram showing? Is the person outside the bunker seeing a good hologram of Earth being green and nice? or is the people inside the bunker seeing a hologram of Earth being dead? Lastly, if the Earth is indeed dead, why not teach it? Why hide it? Wouldn't it make more sense for everyone to know how Earth used to be and why is fucked up now?
@@VypeReaper it is a bit twisted. The people going to clean are seeing a hologram of the beautiful world. The Eartb is desolated around the Silos (there are 50 of them), but most of the planet has recovered from the cataclysm. Story will peel off layers of mystery, like an onion.
I was also confused at the end of season 1. I enjoyed it and didn't jump to the conclusion that the plot was inexplicable just because I didn't have all the information. Instead i read the books, they are very good.

Let me see...if many people had though current situation is too tough due to societal problems or institutional difficulties, it's not wrong. Because if you jump into 1000-1440 years later(year 3024-3464), you'll avoid many chaos and unnecessary pressure. But please to think this, if you live in the liner timeline, there will be dozens of generations to achieve that level. You can thinking this is the direct institutional difficulties caused pressure, or seen this is a group time choices.

what was the purpose of the hologram?
Probably to weed out those who won’t abide by the rules, in doing so, there’s more food, materials, etc. to go around. My theory is they are probably running out of provisions, therefore something has to happen to get rid of people. Hence the birth control and the whole someone has to go clean up the window outside.
