I'm using Inkscape ver 1.0, so when I created the stroke from the clipboard at 3:27, "create regular Beziar path" helped create a fluid stroke instead of "create Spiro path."
very clever way of doing a flame, been trying to get flames looking right in inkscape for ages, i can do most things in inkscape but flames i always struggle with. Thanks :)
Honestly, how in the hell do you come up with these techniques? I always struggle with creating the shapes I want, especially when I'm dealing wiht natural shapes like droplets or flames. Your videos have really helped me a great deal in my Inkscape journey! Thanks man.
Didn't work for me either! Have tried it sooomany times now. Could it be new version of Inkscape? Mine is 0.92, using Windows 10. I am thinking abut using the Bezier method instead, mentioned by Espermachine below.
hi, maybe you find something to fix your problem....if not, press "ctrl+shift+p" ... search for "transformation" ... there you can select/deselect the proportional scaling of lines
When you select the object, there are four symbols at the end of the Toolbar. You have to deselect the first one (Tooltip: "When scaling Objects, scale the Stroke width by the same proportion") In the video you can see the word "Affect" written in front of the symbols.
I'm using Inkscape 1.4. I can't understand why when i zoom in and out the flame create with a pencil I don't read the adjustement of a size of flame min. [4:20] and later. Il I toggle the Icon you explain...nothing change. It's possible the difference is in a version of inkscape ot there is a check option i have to find somewhere? Thank's. 🙏
sir.....why my free hand lines are not thicker??.....as you shown in the video.... the more you scale the line smaller....much thicker the line is.....but its not happening to me.....plz help
My stroke doesn't thicken when I make it smaller by pressing it at the edge with Ctrl and Shift...and then the result is an onion and not your nice flame.
After clicking on the free hand pen and from clipboard, smoothing, and spiral path, Inkscape will not let me create anything like what you are drawing. I'm following the curvy path but it gives me an odd inverted looking shape like youd make in paint. Please Help! Thanks!
I'm unable to create a Spiro path with the copied "eye" shaped object. When I free hand the line what I get is the exact line i drew free hand with a copy of the "eye" pasted at the end of the line. any pointers as to how i can get the initial flame shape?
For some reason, even though I've followed these instructions to the letter, mine doesn't work. I try to do the spyro path and end up with my curve 'mirrored along a line' I guess. How do I fix this?
Pls sir nick how do you save your vectors and make backgrounds, each time I do it, the logos don't come out well when sent to my phone, it kinda gets blurry along the line
+Lobisomem Gordo It's because I'm using a dark theme for Linux which makes everything dark. If you use Windows, search RUclips for Inkscape Dark Theme Windows and there should be a video for it.
Hi Nick, does it ever matter have a vector image in 3 separate images, or unifying into 1 image before extract as a .PNG or leaving as a .SVG file ? Most times, I usually just group the mages together so I can always go back to the original images if i need to. Thanks Nick
+Sam S. I'm not completely sure, but it sounds like you might've accidentally toggled the view off somehow. I would try a Google search. There's usually lots of solutions for that sort of thing.
Hi I'm wondering if you could do a banjo, Im trying for weeks and I cant get it lol..I have to design a banjo logo for school....If you can that would be great, and if you haven't the time, no worries and thanks anyway.
+Bezii I tried 91, but I ended up not liking it as much as 48. I made a blog post about it here if you want the details and reasons why: blog.logosbynick.com/design/why-i-dont-like-inkscape-0-91-an-honest-review/
+Brandon M Yes rohsco is right. It does essentially what Illustrator does, only it doesn''t have all the bells and whistles Illustrator has. Inkscape still has everything you'd need for vector work, though.
Really nice, as always... I am watching a lot of Inkscape tutorials actualy, and the main difference is how professional yours are. Thank a lot !
+Thibaut Lefevre Thank you. I try my best.
I love it how you say "that's pretty good." Nice tutorials. Keep it up!
I'm using Inkscape ver 1.0, so when I created the stroke from the clipboard at 3:27, "create regular Beziar path" helped create a fluid stroke instead of "create Spiro path."
Today is my son's birthday and I wanted to create a custom text message for him and your flames worked well for modifying the text. Great work Nick!
+sithlordofVA That's awesome that you were able to use this. Glad to help!
Fantastic! Never used clipboard shape with the pencil, only bezier tool. Opens many options and time saving for drawings. Thanks again.
+Blinker Please Glad to help
Thanks, Nick - that was a lot of help to me. Very clear instructions, and fun to watch.
I have come light years from my first attempts to use Inkscape and it is all because of your videos
very clever way of doing a flame, been trying to get flames looking right in inkscape for ages, i can do most things in inkscape but flames i always struggle with. Thanks :)

Cool! I like how you used the freehand tool with the copied image. Great video!
+Bob Blihovde Thanks!
I couldnt get the flame line with the freehand tool to be as thick as yours when I tried to follow along with you and my flame looks like a turnip.
It might be your line was too long. Try making a smaller/shorter line.
My favorite channel on RUclips ☺☺☺☺
how do I get my pencil lines to become thick like yours did after you drew them?
Didn't work for me either! Have tried it sooomany times now. Could it be new version of Inkscape? Mine is 0.92, using Windows 10. I am thinking abut using the Bezier method instead, mentioned by Espermachine below.
I just tried another way! Instead of the black square changed to an eye, I made it somewwhere in between. That made the line thicker.

this helped me
Really good. To have a negative you got to think positive, even that blew my mind.
I like your all inkscape videos. Thank you. Please start animation tutorial like this

Tip. In making the line with free hand tool set the smoothing to 30 if using inkscape 1.0
The 48 is way too high and we don't get the shape.
True. I set smoothing to '15' for the wanted result. Thanks for the hint! ;)
The best teacher ever thank you
+Mohammed Hamdaoui Thanks :)
sir.....why my free hand lines are not thicker??.....as you shown in the video.... the more you scale the line smaller....much thicker the line is.....but its not happening to me.....plz help
Very easy, but very beautyful and simple
+Nikita Fedurin Thanks, glad you like it
heh! linux + inkscape + nick =.. nice done!
+OfficialPearArts Thanks! I love both Linux and Inkscape; great stuff.

Really nice.Good job!
+drummer Greatest Thank you!
so the eye you draw initially was for nothing?
so what was the reason for putting the rounded box on the clipboard? i noticed that you did that but didn't really explain why you did it.
+Rogue Actual The rounded box is the shape that the pen stretches out and creates when we draw the lines.
oh ok that cleared things up
Great tutorial thanks! Just Subscribed!
+Cory Prosowski Thanks! Glad to have you on board, and glad the tutorial helped.
Great video! What's your icon pack for Ubuntu?
+Atlantis Thanks. It's the Numix icon pack. I got it from the noobslab website.
Thanks a lot ! Keep up the good work
Best Logo designer ever :)
+PsychoVid That's a bit of a stretch, haha, but thanks. I appreciate the compliment.
this was so f* genious!!!! thank you once again!
+Mister Onemoveahead Awesome, glad you liked it. Thanks!
Me when he drew the lines:
-Thats an eyebrow, look nothing like a flame, where are we going?
**Rotates the line 90°**
Me: :O
Interesting technique, very different from the approaches I've tried
My stroke doesn't thicken when I make it smaller by pressing it at the edge with Ctrl and Shift...and then the result is an onion and not your nice flame.
After clicking on the free hand pen and from clipboard, smoothing, and spiral path, Inkscape will not let me create anything like what you are drawing. I'm following the curvy path but it gives me an odd inverted looking shape like youd make in paint. Please Help! Thanks!
You can hold Alt key and draw anything you wish. This helped me.
Awesome again!
+игорь тихонов Thanks!
nice, inkscape guru
I made an onion ^_^
amazing guide, totally love following along.

+Nicky Dorrington Do you have the object copied to your clipboard?
I had this same issue - can't make it the nice curvy line you had. And I have it copied to clipboard.
I've had the same issue. I do have it copied to my clipboard.
EDIT:
I fixed it. Go to X11 preferences, pasteboard and disable syncing. I have a Mac, and this seemed to fix it.
This really did the trick!!
Pls sir nick how do you save your vectors and make backgrounds, each time I do it, the logos don't come out well when sent to my phone, it kinda gets blurry along the line
how to set this dark theme? looks great
+Lobisomem Gordo It's because I'm using a dark theme for Linux which makes everything dark. If you use Windows, search RUclips for Inkscape Dark Theme Windows and there should be a video for it.

the thumbnail icon of the flame has a gradient in it. how to do that?
dude thank you so much
Hi, i think i disabled my nodes if possible cause i'm unable to select specific nodes with "edit paths by nodes" button. Please help?
+Sam S. I'm not completely sure, but it sounds like you might've accidentally toggled the view off somehow. I would try a Google search. There's usually lots of solutions for that sort of thing.
+Nick Saporito (LogosByNick) Will do, thanks.
Object to path did the trick.
What is the program used ?
+Abdul Aziz Zakri The graphics program is Inkscape, the operating system is Ubuntu
+Nick Saporito (LogosByNick) Thanks 🌹
Hi I'm wondering if you could do a banjo, Im trying for weeks and I cant get it lol..I have to design a banjo logo for school....If you can that would be great, and if you haven't the time, no worries and thanks anyway.
+Feidhelm Ó Foghladha I'll add that to my list of future tutorials and see what I can do.
Nick Saporito Thanks a million
Why are you using version 0.48?
+Bezii I tried 91, but I ended up not liking it as much as 48. I made a blog post about it here if you want the details and reasons why: blog.logosbynick.com/design/why-i-dont-like-inkscape-0-91-an-honest-review/
So Inkscape is like adobe illustrator correct?
+Brandon M yep, just not as advanced. still very good though
+Brandon M Yes rohsco is right. It does essentially what Illustrator does, only it doesn''t have all the bells and whistles Illustrator has. Inkscape still has everything you'd need for vector work, though.
Doesn't work in latest version.
You copy the shape and draw the lines and it just duplicates the shape again
awesome thanks!
Thanx!
+Nadine White Cheers
nice one
+ahmed deia Thanks Ahmed!
Thanks
+Sajed Hamza My pleasure
It's easier than I thought
Cara vc é fera, parabéns. Aprendo muito em cada vídeo. Ah se não for pedir muito como se faz gota de água puxando pra um lado
this isn't working for me
More vids pl0x (jk)
Damn i luv u mayne ur so active
+Dragenyx DeReaVe Thanks. Your profile pic is looking good.
ayy thanks c;
have you responded to my request yet?
Love your videos, that helps a lot, but that one looks more like an onion than a flame :v
🔥🔥🔥🔥
🤔actually you designed Paris Olympics 2024 logo 8years back
It doesn't scale the object. I did everything, step by step, just as you did. This program is as good as gimp… unpredictible and not worth the hustle.
mine looks like onions. lol
