My $50 lightburn camera setup and calibration

- For my new enclosure, I purchased a camera from Amazon and installed it in the ceiling. My camera is approximately 20 inches from the base of the work area. The camera that I purchased did not have a mounting plate so I cut one from 3mm acrylic sheet. I then used screws to attach and align it inside the enclosure. The file is available in my Etsy store for .99 cents.
For templates that I have made, check out my Etsy shop. I build files for projects and tools for laser engravers.

I just want to say thank you. I am a disabled veteran that loves woodworking and I am new to laser burning. I have a Mecpow X3 Pro and love the helpful videos. I live inj Cleveland, TN so I am an hour behind you. That works out great for the Sunday Live shows as I can come home from church and watch. Anyway, thank you again for all the help.
Thanks for watching, really glad it helps. Thanks for your service.
I just bought this camera on your recommendation. My wife has a sewing business and needed wooden patterns from several paper patterns for cloth diapers. This camera was a LIFE SAVER. Kept me from having to manually draw out the curves on Lightburn. I had to adjust the size a bit but the image capture and trace was a HUGE help.
Thanks, Clack!
Glad it helped. I feel lost without a camera in lightburn… thanks
I've been wanting to get this going on mine. I didn't know any camera would work. I've had some laying around for ages. Thanks for the great video.
Some work better than others. I used the specs from lightburn's camera to pick this one.
Very nice presentation and mounting system for your $50 camera.
Thanks!
Great presentation Mate you have a new subscriber now.... also, did you happen to do a build video on your enclosure or do you happen to have plans for it... Its bloody marvelous.. cheers
It was a "build as you go" type plan. It is made from some scrap lumber that I had in the shop. I did make a couple of videos during the build. ruclips.net/video/u0byyo5gs68/видео.html
@@TheClackShack Thanks Mate I will take a look. By the way, your property is magnificent, kill for a plot like that..Thanks again. Bruce.
Great video! I just subscribed to your channel as well. How did you get this camera to - the PC? Thanks in advance!
Just ran it through a hole and plugged it in.
Just got this camera the backside or mounting side get really hot. Don’t think double sided tape is going to work. Great videos. thanks
It worked for me for a while. Still using the tape
I have the camera on order and downloaded the mounting plate. I plan to attach it to the framework of my Comgrow enclosure. The enclosure is attached to a base so it is solid and doesn’t move. I was thinking about using an aluminum flat bar across the top of the Comgrow enclosure frame. I’m open to other suggestions though.
The stronger the better. Keep in mind, this camera likes about 20 inches to the workspace. If its lower, I prefer the fisheyes. I have a video on the fisheyes also.
Any tips on keeping this camera in focus? Mine seems to try to auto-focus constantly. I bought the one in your link
I haven’t had any issues that, mine will auto focus but only when placing a new item. When cutting, it will probably try to focus but it works great for the snapshots needed in lightburn.
If it is doing it without the view changing, it could be defective. If so, I would request a replacement.
Egggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggslent. thanx for sharing
Thanks
Do you have to align/set the camera for lightburn for every cut job you want to do?
No, just when installed and occasionally if having issues
This question is a little off of the topic but what software do you use to edit your videos that you show on youtube? Thanks. Happy Holidays.
IMovie on my iPad pro
@@TheClackShack thanks
You've done a few videos on camera's. for the laser engraver. You have the little 5mp USB camera in this video for $39.95 on Amazon and you have a 8MP camera on another video for $60.99 on Amazon also. I am using the a Xtool Enclosure which one would be better in your opinion.
The fisheye has became my favorite board camera. I have tested several for different applications. The 8 pm range is more expensive but I have grown fond of my fisheye. Mounting height and work area are factors in selecting a camera.
@@TheClackShack Do you know of any camera that would fit in the Xtool Enclosure, I'm not too sure if it is high enough for a camera. Thank You
@@danielprovenzano163 best bet will be a fisheye. Search my content for "fisheye". I have a video on my portable enclosure. Its about the same size
My mounting surface is 30” from my honeycomb. Which lightburn camera would i need? I bout the 120 and it’s obviously the wrong one.
I can't say for sure. I have never had one mounted that high. Sorry. I would think as long as it is auto focus, a good flat lens 8 mp would work.
hi i am using my laser to cut ktm gasket bout i dont have de vector and mesuments could you help me with that ?
I am not sure I know what you are talking about.. can you explain?
since this was only a 60 degree FOV cam, did you have to mount the camera higher than 120,140,150 degree cameras?
It seems to work for a 400x400 at about 20 inches. Any lower and you lose viewing area. Fisheyes are my new favorite.
@@TheClackShack No doubt. And the pricing seems to be quite reasonable as well.
Are these cameras as good as the CCD cameras you can buy for 300,00 € made for lasers?
Not sure what you are comparing them to but they work for me
I am trying t use a standard Webcam (Logitech) and the image shows in Lightburn, but when i press capture nothing happens. Any idea?
Have you completed the lens calibration and alignment?
@@TheClackShack thats what i mean, it wont let me. It shows in the calibration screen but nothing happens when i press capture.
Just as @PCthug421 says. It does not work. When you click capture nothing happens.
Once it is connected to the PC, you have to use the tools to set it up. Then it should work
And all along I thought the camera was used to only watch your progress if you were not going to be standing directly around the laser during the cut/burn
I have one of those too.
@@TheClackShack So there are special requirements when selecting one to do more then watch the progress?
And I only have 1 USB slot that currently I have a mouse tied up in. if I get a USB adapter extension (multiple slots) to share the same port will it work?
@@billbaggins9961 Yes
@@billbaggins9961 , It should, I run a USB hub for all my cameras and mics. I do use dedicated ports for machines but it should work.
Seriously? You're explanining how to use double sided tape? Who is your intended audience, 4 year olds?
Go troll someone else, not interested. Have a good day
