"Slam that down your pipe and smoke it"
I'm dying over here
The 'Put that in your pipe and smoke it' line always gets me
To be fair I took his advice. :) Thank you Professor!
Thanks fam
I just about lost my shit when he said that.
Little fun fact, blues mana symbol is actually a teardrop, meant to symbolize the tears you will inevitably make your opponent shed when you use blue against them.
Raycon: make it appeal to a younger audience
Professor: essentially shitposts the copy
Raycon: thank u
The adds are the best part of this video. 5 stars, fam.
If this wasn't at the top, I'd write about it saying the same thing :p
What, what.
Yo yo the beesz have kneez
I wanted to like this comment but it's at 420 rn which I think is perf fam mood
Why isn't burning wish considered blue?
Whoah, the Prof is pretty rad, daddy-o! He makes me want to do the twist whilst doowop poppin' to some tunes on my raycons!
WOW!
I absolutely love the way you handle sponsorships. Makes me chuckle every time
Theres some sort of reverse psychology happening because the fact that they are okay with him making fun of them makes me want to buy raycons! Or raybands or whatever
@@moosemoosey1114 most definitely. I want them. They seem actually nice.
Narset doesn't stop a dig through time, dig is putting cards into hand, not drawing them.
I think he meant treasure cruise, he was talking about them at the same time.
When you have to run ads, because dem cards are expensive.
When you grammatically butchered a joke format, but it's close enough that people still like.
The only joke is how much this cardboard goes for. 😬
@@djcochrane you not wrong
Personally I prefer Adidas because it fits better on the skin and has better cooling technology (IMO)
Bro... when the professor said "fam"...
I felt that.
I would literally watch a compilation of all profs adds. They are hilarious.
look for Mista GG, his ads (and vids obviously) and amazing too, those are the only ones I don't skip ajjaja
“Slam that down your pipe and smoke it” - Prof 2020
Blue: The color of “f your board state I’m gonna combo off anyway”
amen, brother
That's more Izzet, normally pure blue is slower that that. Unless it's Dramatic Scepter.
Daniel Amade oh, definitely - Izzet storm is funny, but blue usually serves as the enabler for combos, instead of the key piece, (unless it’s some extra turn or stasis shenanigan, which plays into the “f your board state” thing). It’s why I almost never play mono-blue-too bland.
Funny way to spell Jund or... just anything with Green. Combos don't really care about boardstate regardless about what color they are coming from unless the boardstate involves stom stax elements. Rule of Law will shut down most combo decks bar none. Except maybe Yissan.
L C with blue, it’s more about turning disadvantage on its head. When you combo off in all of these other colors, you probably already had the in-game time and space to do so. Blue (especially Sultai and Temur) just assembles some nonsense in an upkeep, untaps, casts Expropriate, and everyone dies. That’s not to say other colors can’t do that-Blue just excels at creating space for itself very quickly, and very often; that’s how it enables these combos in the first place. The reason I mention the other guy’s board state is it implies that he/she is being perceived as the biggest threat, and Blue is just like, “nice value engine you’ve got there. It would be a shame if I won in the space of one draw step.”
I built a Roon of the Hidden Realms deck like 4 years ago and thought Gilded Drake at like $10-15 was waaay too much. 🙃
Damn Tolarian fam, that advertising was WAY COOL!
"If you have a large disposable income...or an inkjet printer" best line in the review
That ad will almost certainly connect with the youth.
Prof: "Blue, the color of thought, and patience"
Me: "skips to each blue card in the video"
The most entertaining promotion I've ever seen! Whatsup Fam?!?
Times you wouldn't use Cyclonic Rift in your deck:
1. You don't own one
2. Refer to point 1.
true hahahah
I use mycosynth lattice and hurkylls recall them, for 2. A lot worse than getting rifted
@@arcum2013 play karn in that case
3. I play Maelstrom Wanderer and I don't want to cascade into an Unsummon
@@arcum2013 Hurkyl's recall only effects 1 opponent and that is a 2 card combo.
"that let's you do what I just said the card does"
I'm almost crying lol
If Raycon is mad at the Professor for this intro, then they aren’t “hip flip fam”
In all my years of viewing the legend of prof from Tolarian Community College, he never seems to dip in quality or in humor. Good job, excellent channel.
I find your witty comments and comedy skits very amusing and enjoyable, prof! Thanks for all the helpful content you make!
Brilliant! Love the tortured quality you give to the Raycon plug! And of course the TCC content helps these uncertain time feel more like normal times. Thanks, Prof!
Omg fam, totally convinced to buy over here! Your enthusiasm is contagious.
Your channel is fantastic, I’ve been inspired to startup an MTG channel as well. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
I love your sponsor plugs... "what - what" !!
According to my number crunching, git prob, ponder, preordain and brainstorm are all must run, after that, force of will, mana drain, chain of vapor, dispel and swan song and cyclonic are the best interactions available, followed by delay, counterspell, winds of rebuke/into the roil and reality shift. Rhystic and remora are game winning and obviously gilded drake is insane, other good cards with very high ceilings are copy artifact, steal enchantment and spellseeker.
Blue, the color of fun :3
How much do I have to pay you to never say "fam" ever again?
1 black lotus
I want the Professor to do a rap battle of Jace vs Chandra
Patreon so he doesn't have to shill
1 generic mana.
@@Ritokure It's actually one white.
Just realize that the flavor text of Gilded Drake says: "Buyer beware." $$$ :D
If you have enough shuffle effects brainstorm is a must run staple
Been watching all of these videos tonight looking to start my singles staple collection during any Black Friday sale
Came for the sarcastic ad at the beginning, stayed for the deck tech. For real though, it's no wonder this channel and the Prof have so many subs at this point. This is hands down the best source of entertainment and education (both for playing and saving $) relating to mtg on youtube.
Narset, Parter of Veils does not stop Dig Through Time as Dig "adds" cards to the hand rather than "draw".
Loving the very enthusiastic ads! Keep it up!
Fam, literally the best part of this vid is the "dope" sponsor plug. 2 min of glorious sarcasm.
I bought a playset of Rhystic Study for 50 cents about 15 years ago. Best investment ever.
The product plug was hilarious and entertaining. And man, did not realize gilded drake was that expensive. Glad I picked mine up for 20a couple years ago.
Hahahah the promo music is gold!
Also please tell us you're going to do the guilds, shards, and wedges next!
Parallel Thoughts is a big favorite of mine. An enchantment that pulls not 1, not 2, but SEVEN cards of your choice out of your library, and makes it pretty much a second library you can choose to draw from is great for pulling out combo pieces for easy access, or even just grabbing seven lands to ensure you always get that land pull when you need it. The downside is if the enchantment leaves play, your pulls are then lost to you, but hey, you're playing blue, odds are you'll have something available to protect it.
This was very helpful thank you prof
I've been needing to get some forever. I've been ignoring that need, but you have changed my mind.
Great wordplay at Narset! 👍
8:59 I'm so glad I managed to pull a mana drain when that set came out
Hope he does puts all his ads together when he gets enough of them, they're hysterical
So happy to see Pongify (and sort of Rapid Hybridization) on this list! I built a (very) budget modern deck a couple years ago based on those two cards and undying creatures that you could blow up yourself for value. But half the time the pongify would just target a tarmagoyf or some such, and i was perfectly fine with that.
But now that Commander is my format of choice, mayhaps it's time to slide those pongifys over to a few decks in the superior format.
Proff literally recommending printing your own proxies. I think secret lair really got to him, and I for one am loving this new vibe.
I'm lovin' these sick beats Prof!
I really like running gitaxian probe in any deck with combos. Tempting to use early, perfect mid to late.
Me: "I hate blue"
Also Me:"Plays a mono blue commander deck"
Slamzami lady of death
@@NathanJackLouttit Precisely my current situation.
I only play Emry for the artifacts...
I built Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain just to remind my play group why I dont play blue.
I only play Goblins. Then I came across Empty the Warrens and all of a sudden I was brewing UR Storm.
In blue I really like running Long Term Plans.
Another favorite of mine is Tolaria West with Pact of Negation.
What what. Famtastic video. I think they don't even have to be ranked though, these cards are all just great, depending on what effect you need.
Amazing video! Thank you!
best sponsor segment yet. If I hadn't already purchased a pair with the TCC code, I sure would now.
My wife just got her Raycon earbuds with your 15% off tolarian discount. She loves them so far. Thanks Professor.
Love the skits, man are the skits awesome content!
I prefer Curse of Swine to Pongify (tho will often run both in a heavy blue deck.) The speed trade off isn't nothing, but the added value of hitting more things and getting to ignore dies triggers cause of exile is worth it imo. Also I tend to run Leyline of Anticipation (which is my choice for card not on this list I think you should consider) so I don't have the timing issue with it out! Great vid Prof.
you should update this video every year...great job!!
I will always shout out Trade Routes whenever I see a video about blue commander cards.
Trade Routes has helped me dig for answers in a pinch, reuse land etb effects, or just turn dead land draws into gas.
I love it so much and its always a starting card in my blue commander decklists.
So many good cards to choose from - Commandeer is one of my favourites, can really swing a game.
13:24 dig through time puts cards into hand, therefore narset doesn't stop it. She does put a snooze to cruise though.
Can I just say I actually enjoy your RayCon sponsorship. They are hilarious and entertaining so thank you Brian for making an add not only bearable but enjoyable to watch 👍
Can't wait for a review video of the new commander precon 2020
Love the sound track!
Your schilling is the best part of your videos.
the music is on spot for each card
Love the goatee, man, lookin GOOD. And love your use of today's slang. 😁
You always make me want to give Commander a try. Maybe one of these days I'll actually try.
Great shilling as always. I'll definitely check out the earbuds for you :)
Oh man! Remember when Gilded Drake was ONLY $100. Nostalgia man!
went from $116 to $240 in the 5 months after this video came out. still would have been a 30% ROI to buy it at that price since its $305 today :(
i normally hate ads that people due but that was different and funny i like it.
Force of Will, Force of Negation, Pact of Negation, etc. are all great counterspells too outside of Mana Drain, and not as expensive. Though Pact is definitely more risky, still a great option.
That's advert was thebest ever raycon is lucky to sponsor you
I just finished watching your Mark Rosewater interview, and this was next in the autoplay. You are not only an interviewer, but you are also a straight-up gangster. "Slam that down your pipe and smoke it" excellent.
AMAZING SELL OUT love it
TY RAYCON
This was entertaining. Thanks.
That Gilded Drake flavor text is so on point
This video was lit, fam. Totally on fleek
I’m pretty sure dig and cruise are legal in pioneer still. Also, Narset doesn’t stop your opponent’s dig through time.
This is probably your best must run list
thanks for making these videos, prof :)
2:00 made my day! thanks prof!
an extremely budget alternative to thassa/azcanta is Eyes Everywhere which allows to you to scry at the beginning of your upkeep, as well as having an ability that allows you steal an opponents nonland permanent
That AD was lit fam!
0:27 This is delightfully cringey as always, Prof. Keep shillin’!
They’re not that good, sadly
oh Brian, that sponsorship bit always makes me wish you were my dad, i love you
FINALLY A SPONSOR SEGMENT THAT MAKES ME WANT TO WATCH IT.
seamless comedy, you had me dying.
Which is why I "apparently" love them.
The Professor sticks to talking points as well as Sam Riegal.
Thanks for going for generic blue cards that's much more helpful than some guy rambling on about some op card that is only op when you have cards that want to be in the graveyard so helpful
YOUR ORIGINAL ADD IS GOLD i hope the raycon corporate didnt stifle your creativity. Thanks Fam
Feel like Ponder, Preordain, and Brainstorm should be on this list over Treasure Cruise/Dig Through Time. These three can be played in the early game and help you set your draws, or shuffle away some bad ones (with a fetch for Brainstorm).
Another alternative to Search for Azcanta is Think Tank. It's 2 and a blue and has the same upkeep ability, so not the best but if you really want that effect and on a small budget it is nice.
Yo fam! I like totally dig your videos fam! Gunna go buy them ear budz fam.
Why is this legit the best sponsor vid i've ever seen!!!! Fucking great mister professor
Mystical Tutor is very fun when used with Temporal Mastery.
Thanks Fam, I'll be sure to buy some fam.
I have a pet blue card I'd like to show the class! It's called Submerge. Submerge is an Instant that costs 4U and reads:
"If an opponent controls a Forest and you control an Island, you may cast this spell without paying its mana cost.
Put target creature on top of its owner's library."
If you're playing this spell you're in blue and definitely control an Island. And how many games with 4-5 players have you played in where no one is playing green? Very few, I'm willing to bet. Notice the lands don't even have to be basic! Shocks, duals, tangos, bicycle, and tricycle lands all count. And the owner of the creature you're targeting doesn't even have to be the player who controls a Forest! In my honest opinion I think this card is either extremely overlooked or not many people know about it. It's definitely a hidden gem.
Now knowing you majored in poetry I for some reason would love to see you review some of spice8racks poetry lol
Just want to preface this by saying I enjoyed the video. Narset doesn't stop Dig Through Time, though I enjoyed the line "bury your opponenets attempts to dig through time." Dig puts the cards into their hand, it doesn't draw them.
Edit: spelling
I remember that the first "Commander" staple I bought was CONSECRATED SPHINX. To this day I just LOVE that card haha, I will play it even on janky Modern Decks whenever I can. The same goes for Nezahal, Primal Tide and Cyclonic Rift...
The Sliver Hive I also love consecrated Sphinx, but because we have a player in our meta that runs notion their in all their decks.... I love that inadvertent interaction.
great video, I love my monoU edh deck and everyone else hates it :)
