    The photo reference looks like an ad for David Austin roses, perhaps the Lady Shallot variety. The loose interpretation of the reference photo is gorgeous.
    Question: Does the technique for loose floral painting depend on your mood? How different would the result be if you had been a little happier or a little more sad?

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  3 года назад

      Thank you Rene! What a beautiful name for a rose! So pleased you like this loose interpretation! Great question! Once I start painting... I think of nothing else except the painting! So I could be happy or sad, it makes not difference. However, if I am short of time it does! 😂

    The way you paint is amazing! As a beginner “puddles” of water or paint are bit scary as hear on most videos (not puddles of water) but want to try it (even if get unusual) must practice to learn. Any tips on if get to much water or is consistency of paint thicker? Tyvm.

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  Год назад +1

      You can get amazing transparent effects with puddles of water. It suits the very loose style of watercolour painting. To get thicker paint I would suggest using tubes, not pans. Hope this is helpful.

      I draw free hand most of the time... but use a kopykakeprojector for more complicated subjects (there are cheaper versions like a light box on Amazon, here is a link: www.amazon.co.uk/Lightbox-Drawing-Ultra-thin-Brightness-Adjustable%EF%BC%8CPower/dp/B07B93R956/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3A9F5O9567HXF&keywords=light%2Bbox%2Bdrawing&qid=1643105522&sprefix=light%2Bbox%2Bdrawing%2Caps%2C70&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyUTdOVVBPQzUwV0k0JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzA4NDk3MUw3UFNONVpCNlRHWCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTYyMDY0MkRIUURHTllTRjBCQyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 Hope this was helpful... So lovely Karen. I try so hard to get loose watercolour paintings but it's very hard! You seem to use a lot of water on your brush, the pool of water on the paper shines for a long time. I seem to get very hard lines when I try this, is there something I should be doing to stop the hard lines? Do you get them when you don't want them!?. Thank you for all your videos you are very generous with your teaching 😍

      Thanks so much. You get hard lines when you paint wet in dry and softer edges when you paint wet into wet 😀

      @@KarenRiceArt thank you Karen so as long as I wet the background as well as the flowers I should not get a hard edge, I guess not too wet though or the paint won't stay on the flower. Thank you I will have another try😊

      Thanks for your message Liz, so glad you are on the mend. I hope you enjoy the membership, there are lots of in-depth tutorials to choose from. If you check out this tutorial I published I discuss about the brushes to purchase, especially if you are starting out in watercolour: ruclips.net/video/bDW8hvAw2zQ/видео.html. I usually say to my students, small brush for details, medium (round size 10) for most of the painting and large (mop or hake) for wetting and painting larger areas. Winsor & Newton Cotman paints are excellent value. Hope this helps.
