Mark I'm still waiting on a 12-string.
Yes 12 String
me 2
Ben James
ya know the favorite guitar me or my family ever had had 7 strings and it was black I wish I knew what the name of the guitar was I remember it wasn't actually ours one of my dad's friends just let him have it for a few years then we gave it back shame it was a nice guitar
Man your wealth of knowledge on guitar is very impressive! I love the Hummingbird
The worst sounding vintage Bird I've ever heard ... needs some t.l.c. and new strings. Those adjustable saddles really stink.....sound killers... playing is great as usual...
The strings are quite dull, I looked up this video to find more information about my vintage late 1960s Humingbird. Also, can any one tell me what kind of yellow finish the hummingbird comes in?
I bought the 2019 Hummingbird it is spectacular i love how it ”distorts” when playing chords open.
Old strings? Sounds dead as hell
total crap agreed
That's the Gibson tone. Not for everyone, but it's certainly for me.
I like the history about the guitars a lot. Thanks for adding this to the vids.
Sound like it hasn't breathed ? Sounds dead
Sorry is it me but that doesn't sound that great?
Jay Lane real shitty strings
Hummingbird, the first Gibson guitar to honestly tempt me - as opposed to just being a daydream model. It was May 2005, and there was a Hummingbird on the floor of my local retailer for $1,999. Had a pickup w/ 1/4-in. input too. But of course, I got a Minimoog Voyager synthesizer instead. Afterwards, the price on a new Hummingbird increased by half.
I didn’t want it because of Jagger and Richards. I wanted it because of Jim McGuinn, who briefly played a 12 string version of this model before the founding of The Byrds.
I just use these clips for guitar lessons.
Nobody batted an eye when its sounds like a horrible cheap beater out of tune, because its a Hummingbird cannot be faulted beacuse you hear with your eyes.
Just tuned down a half step
I have a 66 Hummingbird that was played on the Opry in the late 60's.
My '07 Korean Epi Hummingbird sounds more alive than this, there has to be something off
Thank you for reminding me how much I love the guitar part to "Strong Enough" -- never been a huge Sheryl Crow fan, but that's a great riff.
Mark, any Guild acoustics? A nice D55 perhaps?
double neck or gibson es-335 12 string man!!!!
A little Sheryl Crow this time around.
I think that guitar wants a lighter touch. No offense.
come on mark everyones wants a 12 string
got a little out of tune feel? anybody else?
Ignore the 12 string stuff, for lolz if nothing else. :)
i have a kiso suzuki lawsuit copy of this and it sounds a lot better...made by a japanese violin company..same woods...sounds better and very rare.
Yamaha FG-300, made in Japan, was Yamaha's answer to Gibson's Hummingbird. Underrated.
Gibson had the right idea in 1968 by "screwing down" their pickguards since nowadays, 99% of them aren't glued properly from the factory and lift off within 2 years.
12 STRING PLEASE
that would be a HUGH MUNGUS request
Tru
ive been waiting forever
Altough sound is still a matter of taste I didn´t find one single Gibson acoustic which convinced me....I love Martin Guitars more.
Manuel Arslanyan not even the SJ200 he covered? It's the only one that holds a candle to the 1902 Martin he played in my eyes
@@H1V3M1ND1 Yeah J200's and Doves are the only great Gibsons. Otherwise they just sound muffled and like they're waiting to open up.........after 50 years.
Someone needs to pull your man card !?! Have a beautiful hummingbird in your hands and start out with that song !?!
WHO CARES? This is from 2016!!!!
Canadian here. These vid have place Norm's on my bucket list. ... Also great job!
where did the Norm's stash series go?
I have a 2019 one it is great as well.
Gonna play som wild horses on it now have been playing pumpkins songs
12er plz
Mark! Please do an Archtop!
DRY DRY WOOD SOUNDS SO FINE
something don't sound right
That thing's got no bass.
My dad had the Ventura version of this guitar. He said that it played better than Gibson's own version. Unfortunately the bridge pulled up on it and it's almost beyond repair. My dad has hopes of someday fixing it up but I doubt he'll ever get to it.
he could sell it to me Louis.patry12@gmail.com
There’s a video that shows how to hydrate your guitar using a wet sponge and coffee can lids. The guitar top tends to go back to it’s original shape it had before it was dried out. The bridge can be glued back down with the proper clamps.
Underwhelming.. tbh most vintage guitars sound awful in my opinion lack bass and tone... Just plangy. I played a 90s maybe 2000s hummingbird sounded incredible thick bass....
do a 12 string
My 67 also has screwed down pickguard - serial 370044
Want.
Looks and sounds like it's a chore to play.
I bought one, setup professionally, mind blowing 68 . Original rosewood saddle too.
Metal monday
12 string tuesday
Weird wednesday
???? Thursday
Fender friday
Slide saturday
Gibsunday
Yuck...sounds awful. I think Mark knows it and he kept the pick demo short.
That’s bad, as in not good bad, sounds nothing like the Rolling Stones to me either, next........
I always love the guitar history lesson before he plays it
what a beautiful guitar I'm from 68...nice playing dude😀
Nice job Mark, only a couple of typical YT quibbles. Please throw a tuner on the guitar before doing a demo, and in the Stone's "Sweet Virginia", it's a B maj. or B7 rather than the B min. you were using. But hey, what's the comment section for if not for being hypercritical?
Nice looking axe but sounds really on the bright side, Mark. Can you do the B-45-12 like others have requested? I'm thinking Gordon Lightfoot 67-68 era. Thanks.
Parallelogram inlays hmm. Never knew what to call them. Gibson did have some badass neck styles back in the day. 12-string would be cool but I would luv to see a late 70s or EARLY 80s Charvel San Dimas. These are now vintage and some of them are pretty rare.
Mark someday when I stop by I'll show ya how they played Sweet Virginia on the record!
Yah nice guitar but well done me I found the old video as well I hope I am being kinda helpful
i actually like a nice guitar with dead strings. not everything in life should sparkle
heres a question for yous is that bridge plastic or rosewood??
The guitar sounds awful. He didn't take the time to tune it and the strings sound dead.
Was that strong enough to be my man Sheryl crow? Xxx
Anyone else keep getting nervous he was going to smash the headstock into one of the wooden shelves during the firs part back in the warehouse?
musician to musician, are you getting a piece of the action, it is good selling work
I noticed Gibson doesn't prefer to use bone nut and saddle on their acoustics
these are a real cap shoot. Have had some that sound dead as hell...and some that sound way better
Can we can another byrdland/ted nugent goodness
I would love any Gibson acoustic as long as it has a stones or Beatles connection but they're all too expensive
this one doesn't get "all eq at noon and a little bit reverb"
Sounds good man ! loved the sweet virginia cover
Brilliant as ever. Mark really knows his guitars.
sounds great man. you really bring that guitar to life.
That thing sounds dead.
yeah you're right
I've found that a lot with some old Gibson acoustics. There's a shop in London where i played a few old Gibson's now and again and almost all of them sound dead. I played one a few weeks ago and if it didn't have the Gibson name on it, you wouldn't pay £50 for it.
like shit a lemon
Sad truth sometimes
Most of the time getting rid of that adjustable bridge to a regular modern bridge goes a long ways to fixing the dead sound. The adjustable is sometimes made out of plastic and the lack of solid connection doesn't along the bridge/strings connect to the top in a really tight way therefore conducting all the energy to the top then it comes alive....just saying Gibson experimented with other models the same way and no way it worked.
Thanks Mark!!! Loved hearing Sweet Virginia!!! Awesome
Kinda' thuddy
sounds like death
what are those songs?
I was the first like
Do Gretch, pleaasseeee
Need a snark 😂 ?
Great sounding guitar.
With the greatest respect for this wonderful channel....I believe that the "belly down" bridge indicates a 69 model. I own a 69 SJN and the belly is down...68 and earlier were belly up. This is significant in that a 68 seems to be worth 40% more than the 69s. BUT I really look forward to your daily vids!!!
According to the "Gibson's Fabulous Flat-Top Guitars" book, the change to the bottom-belly style bridge occurred in 1968.
This is a terrible guitar, the bridge was junk, the giant pick guard was a sound killer & typically cracked the top, the one with screws was the least desirable. The neck was narrow & only played C,D & G well, forget bar cords. The giant pick guard deadened the sound board making for no projection.
Me too! :)
yeah dude !
Sounds like sweet Virginia by the stones at one point
Dominic Sisto i think it’s meant to be...
Love it
Beautiful
♥️♥️♥️
Love Gibson. Wouldn't it have been cool if Sheryl Crow stepped in singing on cue.? "God I feel like hell tonight...
Is that the Stones, girl with far away eyes?
"I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, "You know you always have the Lord by your side"
And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you Jesus, thank you Lord"
Sweet Virginia, not Far Away Eyes.
Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
This is around the period Norlin bought out Gibson and they started using double ×braising giving these guitars a much more deader dark tones with less sustain. Also the year when the slope j45s and 50s became square shoulders. This as doesn't sound bad, might need a set up and new strings. But as I said this is the period about when Gibson followed by Martin started having quality issues
That being said I always enjoy your videos and hope to visit your shop someday
Double X braces didn't show up until after 1970. My 68/69 Hummingbird (it has specs from both years) doesn't have em.
What was the first song you played?
Sheryl Crow - Strong Enough off her first album Tuesday Night Music Club
Strong enough, Sheryl Crow.
Can someone give me proof that mick jagger plays guitar cause I know only him for his hips and his lips
'AGNESI' is an Italian name, Kind Sir, and, as such, it is pronounced - AHN-YAY-ZAY.
