    Great video Take. Well done. The new SL3 looks amazing. Still looking for the SL2 or SL2s to experience the newer features compared to my SL601.

      SL2 is still a great camera, and has some features that are still better than the SL3, like higher flash sync speed and better IBIS.

    I have an X-T5, and as you say, the crop factor comes into play when having m-mount lenses on an APS-C body. Therefore something like an SL is perfect for the m-mount lenses. One of my lenses (Voigtlander 50mm f/3.5 Heliar) on APS-C especially lacks the character of the full frame images. Thank you for stating this as this is key for m-mount glass. And excellent first look video!!

    Dude- threw a Minolta to L Adapter on there... My rokkor-x 28, 50, and 85 are AMAZING on the SL2... It's like having a heavy, digital XD!!!! Great video and review- love your content

    SL3 looks incredible, love they added the articulating screen. But as you said, might be a perfect time to look at the SL2. Still a beast of a camera at a nice little price break.
    I also second what you said about camera west, their used list is incredible.. but you need to be quick. I was lucky enough to grab an awesome vintage leica 28mm bright line viewfinder for my m6.

      Ya, I’ve lost out on a few items over the years. I see something, I wait until I get home, and it’s gone. They sometimes have the SF24D flash on their site, but they sell within hours. Same as the EF-X20 flash. Buy it if you see it. Don’t even wait for my affiliate link, just get it!!

    Still not sure if this is right for me. Really happy with the sl2. The screen definitely benefits my shooting style, however it’s quite a premium for that alone. I’m trying to justify it but don’t think I can. The af performance on my ZF is insane which I was hoping to consolidate by selling the sl2 and ZF. But still think it’s lagging comparatively. Seems a bit slow. Love the aesthetic, screen, new buttons, and higher res, but no multi shot, limited video specs (prores) and just okay af is making me think I’ll stick with sl2 for a while.

      SL2 is still great, and I hope to see more firmware updates to make it even better. Leica doesn’t want to abandon older models, so it’s still a great option.

    Nicely balanced perspective on the new SL3. In the end these are all Photographic tools that allow us to tell stories through our photos and videos. Pick a tool that is right for you. We're loving the SL3 articulating screen, users experience and that 60mp sensor we've come to love in the Q3 and M11!
    The SL3 makes the L mount better for everything one with great second hand prices on cameras to new lenses joining the L mount! This is the most exciting part.

    The weight of the SL2 was the reason I opted for the Nikon Z8.

      The weight of the 3,200 megapixel LSST Camera is why I chose the Leica SL2-s.

      I have both the Z9 & Z8 and in the process of selling both and replacing them with the SL3 ( on pre-order ). The SL3 is lighter than the Z8 ( 769 gram vs 820 ). But the physical interface and user interface difference between the SL3 and the Z8/Z9 are quite dramatic. Yes the Z8/Z9 can perform a lot of fast action, but if your not a sports or action enthusiast than all that speed is not neccessary. In fact many of the Z9/Z8 action photographer youtube channels like Henry Hudson etc have developed some very unique technical approaches to action photography but require a pretty adept understanding of the Z9/Z8.

    I sold my SL2 due to the unreliable autofocus. I was waiting to commit to the SL3, as I knew it would come with the Phase detect, but so far, I am not convinced of its autofocus performance yet.

    Got mine a week and so ago. Love the camera for photo. The main caveat for video is the rolling shutter effect when panning. Sensor still reads to slow just like on the Q3

  • @thomasstapel6824

    I have a Z9 & Z8 and my first foray into Leica was the Q2 which I sold to get a Hasselblad X2D. And I love the simplicity of the X2D and really appreciate the simpler physical interface-less buttons. I currently have the M11-P with a many lens and love the weight,size, and elegance of the menu system and button layout. My needs are not in the sports or action area. I am a retied senior citizen with an engineering degree and these factors have moved my mindset toward Leica. I am selling the Z9/Z8 and a Fuji H-X2 and most of the lens that go with them. Yes keeping some lens and will use the Leica adapters for the ones i keep. I have become a Leica convert and the M11-P was responsible.

    It’s good that made it a bit smaller; it seems to SL2 is a bit too big for some people. Love the SL2 size - it’s perfect for me. I had been a Sony shooter, but their mirrorless offerings are too tiny in my hand.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 месяцев назад +1

      Slightly smaller, slighter lighter. If you carry it around all day, or if you need two of them, you can feel the difference.

    Interesting review and very helpful. On the one hand, most reviews have been very positive. On the other, if you go on over to Reddit, photogs seem to be dumping on this release, including a number of had-it-and-I'm-dumping-its. (I have the SL2-S and love it; also in the Fuji X system.) The split seems to be between those who appreciate the total package, which would be photographic quality PLUS user experience, versus those who are chasing specs and the latest ILC technology.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching. Yes I know people who chase specs and buy cameras, only to use it for a week or two and then move on to the next camera. That’s why I said in this video that this camera is not for those type of photographers. You need to commit to something, not necessarily Leica.

    SL was a beauty, timeless design. SL2 still nice but lost the design purity. SL3 no, too small, too Panasonic

      For me the original SL design and UI had the best set up, but I know most prefer the newer labelled button layout. As for pure design, SL2. For functionality, the SL3.

    📸 The stuff that DREAMS are made of & if you don’t have a dream how can you make it come true.
    Like a good ROLEX watch a LEICA SL3 is a good investment and wonderful camera to have as a family heirloom to hand down to the next generation of photographer filmmaker.

      Try the M11-p - I did just recently and I am loving it. Yes you have to get use to the manual focus system but the alternatives of modern auto focus systems present many new issues that have to be overcome also. Zone and hyperfocal focusing with the M11-P is dead simple.

    cool and fast fact vid! yeah like the body of the SL3 but have no need for a flippy. Now that the Q3 has one I am kinda screwed on upgrading my Q2. If I could have one camera and be done would be a Q3 internals but with a 5.7 evf, no flippy, and a 35 lux mounted to it but have frame lines to see outside like the Q2 in 35 crop mode. Well that or an evf M limited one off like they did the M10D. Everyone I know still has their original M6 or MP4 and glass yet we are all have old eyes and rangefinders in need of calibration so are running manual lenses on high res evfs. I think it is time for an M option with a 7.x res evf. You would per-order one right? Seriously, there needs to be something like Gofundme at Leica HQ....leica/buildme or something.

      Is the I Series from Sigma good enough? I ordered the 65mm to go with the SL3, now I am thinking of the 24mm F2 or 35mm F2@@bigheadtaco

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 месяцев назад +2

      @@macmac6479 I'm not that familiar with the entire L mount ecosystem. I think the Sigma lenses offer great value. The Leica 24-70mm f/2.8, 35mm Summicron ASPH and 50mm Summicron ASPH are Sigma designed lenses (I think they say made in Portugal though), so even Leica has faith in Sigma's designs. I like the compact size of the Sigma I series primes, even if they are less sharp than Leica's top performing APO primes. I think it's worth the size and weight. I'll continue testing and report back to everyone.

    • @macmac6479
      @macmac6479 8 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I will test the 65mm f2 on my new SL3. For street it will probably be "good enough" It will certainly be sharp enough, just hope that the rendering is nice as well.@@bigheadtaco
