@@nathanvrvrt Hi Nathan, yes very easy in DR. In fact, you can push it a long way without it breaking, and it still looks very organic. Trouble is, once you’re used to a RAW workflow, it’s hard to go back to the thin compressed formats.
On the fp L you have to wait, unfortunately, for the buffer to clear to playback photos (once the blinking red light stops). After taking a burst it can take quite a long time. It's equipped with a UHS-II slot but doesn't seem to make use of it outside of cinemadng video mode, and I'm not sure why. I've tried a v60 uhs-i card and a v90 uhs-ii card and they clear in the exact same time. I've always been hoping for them to add a fix to that, which should help writing times, but it doesn't seem likely.
I have have been using the FPL for over two years now and I love it. I use mostly fast manual lenses, the punch in focus aids are easy to use and great. The artificial light banding issue is super easy to fix, you find which shutter speed works (often about 1/60) then set the ISO to Auto. With fast lenses I get incredibly low light images. (f1 or f1.2). With a gimbal I have managed to get some beautiful video, but I am def more of a photographer than film maker. I am very tempted to get a Lumix S9 as a companion camera, for video work without the gimbal.
@@David-u2b5p what focal length do you prefer? I love my 7artisans 50mm f1.05. Most of my recent instagram pictures were taken with it. James550 . But if you’re happy with f2, there are some more compact and affordable options. There are a few that are so inexpensive they make for easy impulse buys. What’s your usual subject matter.
They probably use the same sensor just different baked colour profiles. It's all about post profile recipes. Just with the sl3 is easier to get to the pleasing end product
The user experience is worlds apart. I love the idea of the FPL, but in practice it was a real challenge: without the EVF, focusing is a pain; with the EVF, it's ungainly. Battery life is not great. On a plus side, I loved the panoramic mode. I have Leica M and Q cameras: I'm sure I'd love the UX of the SL3.
Nikon shooter all my life, easy pick it up and fire, not problem (boring almost) - Purchased Sigma fp L 2 months back, while I agree with you, the user experience and learning curve of owning the Sigma has been a challenge, it's actually an enjoyable challenge. I have the EVF and its good, but it takes away the small form factor., but its handy, as i've never liked shooting off a screen and coming from always having a viewfinder, the Sigma one is at least something. On the battery side, I got some 3rd party ones and they are large mah and last longer, about another 50 shoots roughly. I'm happy with my choice, the main reason for buying was travel, due to the size.
Not an FPL user but recently grabbed an FP for a great price in Japan mainly for video stuff and some hobbyist photog but I've found the camera to be more than capable and I don't have much issues with the UX given I used the GH5 at work for a while which ass vastly worse imho, I will say that the BMPCC4K is and will always be vastly superior on that front but sizewise the fp is an amazing lil cine beast
I have both as well as the Lumix S5iix. I don't shoot much, if any, videos with any of these. Strictly speaking from still photography experience, they are both incredibly good cameras as far as their images are concerned. I probably couldn't tell the difference even with my favorite lens. Image quality on almost all modern digital cameras are great, but that's not the only reason or the primary why I'd pick one camera over another. What little differences there are in image quality between these modern digital cameras, it's nothing that can't be tweaked in post. Comparing all these factors and coming up with what's 'better' is completely useless if you are serious about your photography. It's not about whether you can afford a Leica or not either. What works for someone is not necessarily what works for someone else. I have paid a lot to find what works for me, but I'll still keep my FPL because it fills a certain need that's only possible by being physically small and lighter. I don't have a need for S5iix anymore. I'd probably keep it if I did more videos. As for the shooting/using experience, there's just no comparison; Leica wins hands down.
I think Sigma, should update the processor and sensor & battery efficiency. I was just in Yodobashi Camera here in Akihabara (Tōkyō) and kept admiring the camera, along with the 3 small Sigma portable lenses.
I criticized the S9 a lot, but in the end, I bought it and I like it. I think it offers the best of both worlds, although I miss the EVF. My preference is still for a tilt screen rather than a fully rotating one, or one like the A7R V. By the way, I would have liked the S9 to have 60 megapixels so I could use APS-C lenses and have smaller lenses, although you can also do that with the current S9, but you end up with 10 megapixels. I hesitated a lot with the Q3, but since I already have the S1R, Z8, and a whole bunch of other cameras, I preferred to keep it simple and go with the S9. I shot a wedding with the S9, and people really liked it. I haven't had any banding issues so far, except when the official photographer used a flash, which overexposed the top of my photo. It's a shame that the Fp L is so slow because it would have been a good alternative, but I can't stand a slow menu. (Even when the S5 II powers on, I find it too slow, so if the Fp L takes forever to display an image, it's complicated.) So, for me, the price of Leica cameras today is overrated, and I was ready to get a Q3, or even an SL3, but when I got to the store, I preferred to get a Z8 with the 50mm, 85mm f/1.2, and 135mm Plena. €6000 for the body is too expensive for me. I got the Z8 to "replace" my S1R because it's really overdue, and I find that Lumix AF is still not at the level of Canon, Nikon, or Sony. Sorry for going off-topic but between the two cameras for discreet photography, I would still choose the S9.
It seems like a fun comparison to me: but seriously, do you think it's accurate? What's the difference between a 500 and a Mercedes? It's the same type of question: with both, I can travel the same road, right? But there's a 20,000 euro difference. Then, the same argument should apply to the Canon RS1 or the Nikon Z9: but speaking ill of Leica is fashionable.
Sigma produced better pictures. Being laggy has to do with reviewing. Sigma has ISO 6 (no ND filters). What is the lowest ISO of the Leica? Sigma is built for street and landscape. And was and still is the cheaper 61MP camera ( by a big margin) in the market today.
I have two Sigma FP and one Panasonic S1H. I would never buy a nonfilm base Leica as they are just a badge in the digital age. If I want the bells and whistles I will pick up my Nikon gear.
I haven't watched the video because the answer is very simple 'no they a not'... This is not something that you can possibly place a monetary value on even if they are/were better.... (not to mention the obvious elephant that we are on youtube) The real question is more 'is the Leica worth that much more because its a Leica' and thats up to the individual making that decision.
The one body I hate is the 5d cameras. They are the worst laid out cameras, and Canon has horrible colors. A magenta shift is really a nightmare to work with.
Wait till you try the video on the 24MP FP. Yes, inconvenient with massive CDNG files, but footage grades beautifully. Some of the best I've used.
Pardon my limited knowledge, are the footages coming out of FP better than FP L? Thanks!
I was wondering if the all i files are also easy to grade ? And oke to grade ?

Sigma FP-L vs. Panasonic S9, hmmmmm... I'd be down to see that video comparison...
I’m looking at these two camera too, and would love to see a comparison especially for travel photography use cases.

Will Panasonic ever offer a 61 MP S1R Mark II ? I love the image stabilization and color rendering of Panasonic.

What about the Leica SL2-S VS SIGMA FP 24 MP ?
Do a comparison between S5-II and Nikon Z6III
The FP-L can be had for less than $1500 used too 🤯
Yeah it's crazy when you think about it! It definitely has many 'quirks', but based off IQ alone, it's a steal!

Even cheaper: for 1000 euro I got myself a mint FP-L, so now I have one with evf and one with lvf finder!

I have done many videos on the S9 :) Take a look on my channel
Still patiently waiting for S5R :/

I was wondering if Leica have ever seen any of your videos. Are you aware of that? Or have they ever commented on this?

This just proves that Leica has gone backwards for their color science from the great SL color to the mediocre SL3 colors. 😅
