I’m grateful that I found out about ST while being a Dental assistant. But I wish I went for this instead. Being a DA is low pay with a lot of work, so I left that career….3yrs later and I’m going to self study for ST! Wish me luck! ❤
I wish you all the best
I also was learning to be a dental hygienist and started with DA but I realized I hate the field. Now I’m getting certified for CBSPD I’m excited
good luck i am a current student as well how is it going for you or have you completed?
Me too.
ME TOO!! I’m so glad I’m not Aloneeee😭😭🤣
I am so glad I’m a tech. I’ve been in for almost 3 years. I’m just now looking into how to do the traveling. So informative. Thank you!
It’s easy field to get into. I’m a lab assistant and I’m doing this one as well right now. I’ve always gotten my medical programs paid for.
Can you tell me how please ?
That intro took me out😂 I love your video…I’m also originally from New York City so I had to support.
If you go to school for this course, after you pass the program. They will place you in a central ( hospital ) for you to have hands on training. The hours that you train will of cause go toward your 400 hours.
Do you get documentation of the hours to submit?
@@sdanzey6962 Any internship or externship will need to give documentation of the hours . Make sure you let them know this up front as well.
Thanks for reinforcing my decision to embark with any reservations on a New career path, as a Sterile Processing Tech aka Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST)
I'm from New York to and I'm looking at your face like... I know her LOL❤
Great informational video for this career
On my first traveling spd assignment, in a small town of Texas and I love it. Yes, there is a shortage and demands of spd travelers. You're right about knowing your craft, decon, assemble tray, scopes, vendors trays, pulling case carts and each method of sterilization. You can't fake spd work, management will call you out on lack of knowledge. Good info.👍🙌
@Majestic Meno
You can if someone can confirm you worked in spd, have 2 years experience. I know of nee hired coworkers lied about how many years they have and got the job with travelers agency.
@Majestic Meno if you resided in Florida, try to get a job in a hospital spd... they're always hiring for uncertified spd tech, eventually while working in spd you are given a chance to get certification
Pulling case carts???? I wrap do decatam and assemble trays is not too bad...
@@MyCaramel30how you get the certification

I just got certified, I’m in the process to start my 400 hours
Hello what did you use to study for the exam
Did you go to a school or self taught?
Hello Gee Scenery, any info that can help? Am about to start the journey
@@missdesireindependance5194 I went to school for just 3 months.
@@mrsnk28. it’s not for the weak , watch video on RUclips to help prepare you mentally and physically.
This was great information. I’m a 33 year old who been in quite a few different careers. I’ve been paying for a program which I am able to complete at my own pace. I had so much confusion prior to watching this video. I’m glad I went and did some research and came across your information. Thank you
I'm a truck driver I went to school to be an electrician and now I'm looking to do something different very interested in learning how to do what you're doing and travel so I will be checking out your website thank you for all the great information
I'm from Canada. I was also a trucker who is looking into this career. I think it's a great choice and I'm scheduled to start in March. I hope you followed through with it.
I’m a truck driver as well ❤
Um hey would you ever fix the Healthcare machines. They make crazy money. I think it's called biomedical technician or something.
@@Shay416 Biomedical Technician program takes longer like 2 years.
It would be a good idea to shadow someone to make sure this is the right career for you. I've seen a lot of people come and go in this field over the past 20 years. People don't realize what it all entails.
Yes. I’m one, and it entails a lot-especially when you have a shortage in a hospital. I’m actually trying to leave this particular hospital, not getting paid anything but Pennies. Trying to get certified though so I can travel.
Is it usually a person working alone or will you have help?
Nice video. I really appreciate your effort to ease the part for some of us. My question is, which site can u recommend for self-study. I know u did mention the organization where u got certified.
I love this video!!!! Im 23 yrs old with no direction in life at the moment. I really wanted to get into this and try it but have been feeling lack of motivation because I don't know anyone who's a tech and I didn't think there was a market right now. I really hope its worth it and I want to make sure if I pursue this I'll always have a job lol in your opinion is it still worth it in 2022?
It is, she’s making money as a traveler.
It's good to get in. If there are surgery there will always need SPD. It can come with burnout so be strategic!

@@AkilahWonders how often are you unemployed between assignments?
I'm gonna put this out there but learning the sterile processing part is a plus in other fields also. I work in the pharmaceutical manufacturing field and we manufacture vaccines or medicine for animals and humans. To do the processing part before we even get to packaging, you have to do a bit of sterilizing to be able to work with the product. So you can definitely take this experience and branch out to other fields if you find that this isn't for you.
Going into it and this helped me a lot 🙏🏾 I love the health field myself
Currently in nursing school and it is EXTREMELY accelerated. Thinking about switching over to this but I don’t know enough about it.
Did you end up quitting the nursing program or stayed? Was it just really hard or not for you in some other way?

Thank you so much for this video! Best real information I have found to point me in the best direction for CRCST/SPT info and learning. Also, knowing that ultimately an "online course" that may cost tons of money is not necessarily the best route to go (as there are a lot of online options out there) is huge. I signed up, purchased the book package 9th addition (fyi) and am on my way. Keep doing what you do!
any update? how is it?🥰
Tips for the test? Update in general??
I'm am from Canada and I'm so glad I stumbled upon your videos!
Here in DC it's soo hard to get your hours. It's crazyy!!! I was told that I would be a liability to the company. I will be optimistic and keep trying! Tfs!
I'm also a DC resident so I know what you mean
Not sure if you guys still trying to get into this field, but INOVA is hiring, and you don't need to be certified. I just started last week, and I'm not certified. They train you for 6 weeks. Also, if you do want to become certified, they give you free classes on Saturdays once you get hired.
@@binagee6653 I just looked on their website all the jobs I’ve seen said you have to have experience and be certified. Only highschool students they are offering free training
Hi live in nj
Thank you for all this great information 🎉🎉🎉and I’m new to the channel
could you share how you approached places to get the 400 hours what sites or where you went in person ?
Same here I want to take an online course but they don’t offer externship hours and I don’t want to waste my time
Great video! I am wanting a career change and I'm interested in learning more about this field. Do you know if hospitals or other facilities would allow someone to shadow or volunteer?
Not many. Call the sterile processing department early like 6 am. Talk to management directly.
The tough part is finding somewhere to get the 400 hours
True. Visit or call the hospitals and speak to the manager of Central Processing. An explain what you need.
Ready to start my journey. I will keep in touch I'm sure I'll have questions
Hey I want to start my journey too
I ty for explaining this step by step keep posting..ty . 😇😇😇😇😇.
Hello Akilah. I just finished my course at Laguardia and am scheduled to take the exam Friday October 7th On Long Island. I'm soooooo nervous. Hoping and praying I pass so that I can get my 400 hours 🙏🏾.

If you are traveling out of state is your license/ registration still valid in the state you are going to travel to like ex Texas certified to travel to let’s say Cali etc.
Amazing video btw
Nice 👍 video informative
Thank you very much your lesson. Am inspired. What is the name of the book for I saw many.
Love this 💝
First.. thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I'm looking into getting into this field. I have no experience. So I'm modeling your steps with how you got started. However, do you recommend this field for older people? Is it hard on your back?
Hi, this is a field for all ages. I do have to warn you it's a lot of walking and standing depends on the facility. Some have chairs in the department some don't. Decontamination is a major part of the job and it's gets very hot in there especially with all the protective gear you have to Don. The trays should not exceed 25 pounds but that is not always the case.
Also you don't need to have any past medical experience it helps but not a requirement. You learn a lot on the job.
I have the CBSPD certificate and it's about the same. it's a 5 year certificate too. but we have to either have 5 years of CEUs in order to recert.. or retake the test.
Yeah I heard
Great info...
Thx
Hi, would you know if this career would require one to be Covid vaccinated since you are not really working with patients.??
I got hired as a dental setrile tech and I love it. Do you think this experince would help me get a job as a hospital sterile tech?

Who did you go through online?
Where do you take the test btw? For the website. I wanna do this and I was just curious, would I have to travel somewhere to take it?
Hello Akilah. I visit the website is there a specific word I need to type in the search to order the book and study guide? Thank you for any additional information you can provide.
I work at a candy place and I want to do something that pays more and I have an associates degree as a MOA, and I’m thinking about getting a job at the state capital (takes about 2 hrs to get there) that is looking for 3rd shift for the Sterile Processing Tech. I’m contemplating on what to do.

If i would like to learn from a book what do you recommend which version should i try learning from to get into this field. I've been a CNA for years and i am in need of a new career.

Hi! do you still tutor for sterile processing? Thx kim
Hi! I love your videos can you tutor me.

I wonder if a person needs to be vaccinated to do your job?
Depends on hospital and state. Most yes you have to, or get exempt.
What’s the website?
since they give housing can you travel with your family?
Not housing. Stipend means Money for housing. Money for meals. So when you have an RV to live in, you pocket that money.
No
cant even get the hours in this pandemic. they wont even talk to you. this is a mess and $50 year recertification over 5 years like, makes no sense which should be a departmental decision.
Ok if it was me, I would call the department at 6am or first thing in the morning to talk to the manager. If not available try seeing if they have a staff educator. Yeah there is a lot of improvement that can be made in this field but COVID is keeping progress at bay.
@@AkilahWonders will try. it sure is. my son is almost giving up. he likes this field as he is an introvert. utter shock now each department wants a certification: sleep techs etc. it kinda traps you.
