The most underrated guitarist out there. Randy and I talked with Al Hendrix after Johnny Winter played Red House at Parker's. Al had tears in his eyes. What a night!
I think Randy doesn't get the recognition that he should because he gets dismissed by some music snobs as just copying Jimi but he's definitely one of the best guitarist around.. I wish the Jimi Hendrix Family/ Foundation would loosen up and do a real movie and let Randy do all the performances.. He nails every aspect of Jimi's sound etc.. Don't know why the family prevents really good stuff from coming out !
I agree Randy would fit the bill as a Jimi Hendrix life story movie ,wouldn`t need him to mime and pretend to play either ,and he has Jimi`s spoken voice too!.
To A. Himmler et. al.; AMEN! Remember, Randy has been doing Jimi longer then Jimi did! Randy had the audience in the palm of his hand five seconds into the first tune of his first public performance, at the Seattle Center in 1975. I was there. BTW, he opened for the Kinks and Beach Boys.
Very good. Great tone! The one thing me, Randy and other people that play Hendrix's stuff can't do is "play like Jimi". Randy copied different licks from the few recordings we have of Jimi and used them very well in this live version. We can all only imagine what it would sound like if Hendrix was here today and played this song. But it is great to hear Randy and others keeping the dream alive.
Randy is pure musician in the extreme. Probably the best guitarist of the modern age, and i dont say that lightly either. His mastery of MUSIC is beyond so many i have witnessed in the last 40 years.
Randy does such a great tribute to Jimi. But it's time for him to start writing his own music, in the style of Hendrix. I can write songs for him in that style if he's ready.
