One of L.A.’s best hard rock bands, who never got their full due. Lead singer/bassist Johnette Napolitano has an incredible voice, very powerful, and they put out a lot of strong material.
This is Johnette's song about her relationship with lead guitarist for "Wall Of Voodoo" Marc Moreland who was a raging alcoholic and ended up dying of liver failure.
The singer is Johnette Napolitano and she does have a beautiful voice. The guitarist is James Mankey. The two of them founded Concrete Blonde and were the soul of the group, while they played with four different drummers from 1982 to 2012. My favorite Concrete Blonde songs are Days and Days, and Walking in London. Check out the bass in both of them.
This song is every thing I thought and couldn’t say for 18 years until he died at age 49 from the same thing Joey died from. He has been gone 18 years as well the 17th of August. This song healed my heart.
Johnette Napolitano is the singer and her voice is Amazing! I Never get tired of hearing this song!! It's just so addicting!! They got their name from Michael Stipe (R.E.M. lead singer). He suggested it because of the contrast between their hard rock music and introspective lyrics. Love this!!
This song is a cathartic masterpiece and the album it's from, Bloodletting, is an absolute classic. It does definitely sound of its era.1990 still had a bit of residual 80s stiffness to the production. Johnette Napolitano is easily one of the most underrated singers in all of rock, and as mentioned in another comment, guitarist James Mankey always has a recognizable sound. Would recommend their songs "Caroline" or "Bloodletting (A Vampire Song)" especially for the bass.
Kid, you randomly popped up on my suggestions with something you posted a few weeks back. I decided to go looking through what else you've done, and you, young man, have earned a subscriber with me. I'm actually quite selective with Reaction channels, where music is concerned..... so please, keep going down this "classic rock" (50s-90s) rabbit hole, and I'll be here for it. Hell, I'll even toss some suggestions that you may find "obscure", even to people my age (57) that you may well like.
One of the few bands I ever saw live. I think it was to promote this album, so it was probably around 1990, though it could have been for Mexican Moon, which would be 1993. Not a big concert goer. I think the only other bands I've seen were U2 and the Moody Blues.

The entire Bloodletting album is superb, especially Tomorrow Wendy. Check it out...
You're not wrong.

This song addresses watching someone, a dear friend, struggle with alcoholism. Been there, so this one really hits home.
Ditto
Johnette Napolitano is my all time favorite female rocker. Lover her voice.
James Mankey has a tone all his own!

Glad to see you get to this and enjoy it! It's always been a great song to me.
They were an 80's band and this is absolutely an 80's song.
So rockin' and emotional, and real. Love it but always brings a tear to my eye.
it`s from 1990 ! but it does have an 80`s feel !

Most of us have had someone we care for get lost in a bottle. Great song
This was very much an 80s to 90s transition song.
Great album.
My way back machine kick in...
