Never got the recognition as a band that they deserved. My favorite female vocalist. Many tracks to explore. God is a bullet, Mexican moon, Bloodletting
Preach! ^_^
Concrete Blonde is one of my favourite bands!
Johnette Napolitano is such a FORCE!!
From Concrete Blonde: "God Is A Bullet", "joey", "Ghost Of A Texas Ladies' Man", "Someday", "Heal It Up", "Mexican Moon", "Jenny, I Read", "Tomorrow Wendy", "Take Me Home", "Violent"
From Pretty & Twisted: "Ride", "Dear Marlon Brando", "Mother Of Pearl"
From her Sketchbook series: "Considering", "Difficult Woman", "Superstar", "Song For A Soldier", "My Nikola"
More, please! This band deserves so much MORE attention!!
"Jonestown", "Caroline", "The Sky is a Poisonous Garden", "The Beast", "Walking in London", "Les Coeurs Jumeaux", "I Call it Love", we could be here for very, very happy days! ^_^
Yes, a Leonard Cohen song. In fact, he was so enamored with this cover that he sent roses to Johnette and thanked her for elevating his song to new heights. 30 years later, Johnette wrote the song “Leonard Cohen’s Roses” from her Exquisite Corpses album.
Someone else mentioned "God is a Bullet", this is the song that caught my attention. Johnette Napolitano is effing amazing.
The movie was Pump Up the Volume. It was about Outlaw Radio Stations and the guy is Christian Slater
Concrete Blonde was such an underrated band, shoud have had way more success than they did. The Bloodletting album is fire from beginning to end, one of the best new wave/alternative albums in my opinion. This is off the Pump up the Volume soundtrack starring Cristian Slater which was a popular teen movie in the early 90s. I was 14 at the time. Joey is their biggest hit which is great. Other great ones are. "God is a bullet", "Caroline", "Bloodletting( the vampire song), "Happy Birthday" and "Mexican Moon" just to name a few......
Probably one of my favorite bands! The whole Bloodletting album is worth a listen IMO. ❤
This was featured in “Pump Up the Volume” with Christian Slater. This is a shorter version than the one on “Still in Hollywood” album, which the whole album is 🔥 BTW.
Also, if you had brown hair, you’d look like a young James Mankey (guitarist)
Definitely check out more. 🤛😎👍
And there is also a live acoustic version from MTv 120 minutes
Great movie
Check out the MTV live acoustic version. The story is that their drummer didn't show up so they put together this acoustic version with just Johnette and Jim at the last minute. One of the best live performances I have seen. I found this song quite by accident and immediately became a big fan of the band. My favorite female rock voice and its not even close.
i use to pop over to her place in Silver Lake but she was always on tour. saw them at the Palace in hollywood. her Mum lived not to far from Johnette and she gave me Concrete Blonde Tee. yep i still have it near mint condition. brilliant band
I love this song more and more as it goes. When she lets loose at the end, wow baby!
Concrete Blonde is a rabbit hole you need to dive down, sir! This was one of the finest alternative rock bands of all time! Johnette Napolitano, arguably one of the greatest female singers of all time! Do your homework, sir! You will not be disappointed!
That was "The Great" Paul Thompson from Roxy Music on drums John, after The Beatles they are Britains most influential band, Try "Out of the Blue" or "Editions of You" by them!!
funny you mention those two tracks. i listened to those today also Pajamarama.
Great Version by Concrete Blonde, far superior than the Original in my opinion. And Great Movie too with Christian Slater, the 1990 classic Pump Up The Volume.
JOEY!
The Beast is a great song.
