I remember the cake incident so well 40 years later. It was part of the opening montage from then on until Cornette left Mid-South. I was one of the fans from Beaumont. Me and my friend went to yell at Cornette. Cost us $12 for front row. So, I was doing my part 😆
Jim Cornette's Midnight Express 🎾 is my all-time favorite tag team but I'm also a huge fan of Stevens, Bockwinkle and Bobby The Brain Heenan...They had a really good run in the mid to early 70's ...do you have any stories about these iconic greats...thank you...
If possible, I wish a few off regular episodes could be put out at intervals during the month to cover nothing but the schedule.. I guess specials just on em. Luv the behind the scenes past wrasslin.
As someone from Eunice, La, which is pretty centrally located, we got the same weekend show from Lake Charles, Lafayette, Alexandria and Baton Rouge at various times.
this has probably been mentioned before , but i havent heard it ... Corny has talked about the gate being in 1/3 splits going to promoter/expenses/talent , and i think has said 30% at other times for talent ... but it seems like many times on these payoffs he gets about 1% of the house ... if Corny , Bobby , Dennis , Ricky , and Robert are only getting about a total of 5% of the house for the main event (or even semi-main really) Watts was under-paying them by a ton ... or the under-card guys were making not much less for not really drawing the house ... even if it's just 30% going to talent , i doubt there's 30 guys on a card ... and they're not getting 1% each ... it'd make more sense if the main event was getting about 10% of the house , instead of 5% ... but i realize they had alot of great talent in Mid-South in 1984
To be a smart fan back then would've been some experience. I was born too late but was a believer as a kid in the attitude era, so pros and cons I guess 🤷♂️
Mid-South was and still seems to be the craziest, longest, most time in a car territory that ever existed. I'm sure guys would crack if they weren't riding 3 or 4 deep with booze and some smoke. I love these stories!
Jim Hellwig/Warrior said you did the show at night and got shorted on pay. Then, you got in a car and drove to the next town in the middle of the night. You drove 100 mph and took whatever you needed to stay awake.
I don't understand why Oklahoma was part of this territory, especially with the Dallas territory getting southern part of Oklahoma. There's a big gap between OKC/Tulsa and the Houston metro. Seems like Oklahoma should have belonged to either the Dallas or KC territory...
@@codyglassco6664I believe Watts got Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Little Rock when what was left of Leroy McGuirk's Tri State territory went under. Watts had originally gotten Louisiana and Mississippi from McGuirk several years before. As for Houston, that was more or less under Fritz's Dallas territory but promoter Paul Boesch had a habit of bringing in stars from outside the territory, causing friction with the Dallas office, probably because Fritz wanted his boys to be the top stars in Houston. Boesch would eventually start working with Watts, while still being allowed to bring in stars from outside the territory. The crazy thing is, wrestlers who worked for Fritz or Watts were still allowed to work the other's shows for a few more years.
Jim Cornette's Midnight Express is 🎾...the greatest tag team of all time... longtime fan... Beautiful Bobby Eaton🙏 was one of the most technically sound wrestlers in the history of the business...the guy was incredible... thank you Jim for all the wonderful memories my friend 👍
Remember when Jim Cornette got confronted by Santino Marella and he was like "get away from me i dont wanna talk to you" but when people come in and get between them is when Jim started to run his mouth What a coward

I Remember My Uncle Jake would call What Ever The Baby Faces called Jim . Pencil neck Geek..Mama's Boy ECT..I would get Furious 😂We never missed Mid South Wrestling..never..
I wish jim did more of these retro looks.
He's been doing them pretty frequently.
Search this channel. He’s done a ton of this type of thing
My favorite part of these pods
He does these as much as modern reviews tbh
It's the only reason I check in on the channel.
I love hearing about his old schedules.
I love hearing this wrestling history stuff.
The MidSouth omnibus is gonna be great
Probably be long as all hell
We’re taking it way back to 1984 Mid South I’ve seen all from 1980-Now what a life of wrestling
Time to roll a joint
Lmao
Come we bill it
Just smoked a bowl before bed & now this will be my bedtime story.
Them “marijuana pills”
Hell yeahhhhh
Was hoping these would continue as '84 Mid South is among the most interesting times in the career of Jim and the Express. Grateful for these!
Love the old time wrestling stories!
I saw the Midnite Express lose the NWA tag titles to the Road Warriors in the New Orleans Municipal Auditorium in 1988.
The power of Sprite compels you.
Love how he describes a town as wanting to rip him apart for real and ending it with "they were a fine crowd of people to work for" lol
"Am I boring you?" . The exact opposite! JC talking about a van going 55 is somehow the best story I has heard in weeks
68 yr old Lexingtonian..... love the stories. 1st memories of wrestling was Saturday tv broadcast out of Cincinnati in mid 60s
Love these detailled retrospectives!

Finally. I have been waiting for this series to pick back up
OMG The Harlod Hecuba comment at the end had me rolling. Thought I was the only one that remembered old Harlod.
I’ve never clicked on a video so quickly
I love listening to these
Great drawing. Watts as Father Merrin is 10/10.
Butch Reed was smokin those choppers 😂😂😂
Love seeing glimpses into Jim's TV tastes. 18:40 Japanese Iron Chef is always classic.
Yes, a mid south omnibus would be awesome!

Speaking of Soul Man, I recently found out that this song has actually been around a lot longer than the Blues Brothers. I was quite surprised.
Isaac Hayes co-wrote the song.
When the Blues Brothers had a hit -- Sam & Dave were accused by some of lifting the song from BB!
Hopefully we get an omnibus of Brian's ambient synth music one day.😂
Oh god, no!
Hey today wasn't so bad, he had me nodding my head
These time travel sounds are so goddamn funny lol
Great history lesson. I wish more wrestling podcasts talk about the history of wrestling. Thanks you for explaining the wrestling business.
Brian busted out a Doom riff in the intro 😂
23:10 WWF ran a 8/97 raw in Biloxi. WCW had Beach Blast 93 there

👍 From Lake Charles
Alexandria here! And visited my wifes family in Eunice 2 weeks ago
Regan MacNeil Jim Cornette. Big fan. The Exorcist is usually #2 in my fav horror movies of all time book whenever asked.
You're spoiling us! Thanks guys.
I was already standing up, so I had to do a little dance to Brian's intro.
Brian: how close can you get to playing the Giorgio Moroder Chase music on the synth for the time travel music?
Happy Holidays everybody🫶
What vehicle were you using at this time?
Love this...
How long did the territories have left if Vince didn’t take them over?
Roll a joint and crack open a Sprite Zero
Never been this early for a time travel event
Please give us a mid south 40 years ago omnibus
A Harold Heckuba Gilligan's Island reference!
That was a dope beat

Brian for sleep, an edible. It is amazing. I have a family member is a sleep doctor, he swears when they legalize in 50 states he is out of business
The money rolling in during the territory era often made the pro sports teams in the region beyond jealous.

I could be wrong but I believe Watts got Oklahoma from Fritz which is why talent from Dallas would make certain towns in Oklahoma for Watts.

It's 75mph between OKC and Tulsa now, with it turning to 80mph about 10miles SW of Tulsa
I drove it the other day doing 85😂. So glad they upped the mph
I started following the channel because of retro stuff. I am tired of AEW, id be happy if they just stopped covering it by this point.
Happy new year

Shreveport is a dump
Google Harold Hecubah boys and girls....lol
Brian should score a low budget horror movie for real 🤘🏻
The synth is sounding great, much preferred to the organ
It had an 80's John Carpenter film vibe to it, I thought
The review for World’s End is going to be a treat 😁
What a miserable and pathetic PPV.
Beaumont is definitely bleh 🤣
With I-10 road construction that lasts over a decade.
Incoming political video: Jim on Carter's death. Expected to last 3 min.
Brian plays like jim sings..badly
1:35 to 1:43 is peak listening experience... you can't fake their relationship, i want to hear one of their fights, i know it's f'ing gold
They have been freinds for 30 years
Sounded like video game music at the start of the video.
Didn't go to worlds end, was at the WWE house show holiday tour, but am happy to hear see that Omega came back!!
Best open
I swear when I first saw this I thought corny was orochimaru from Naruto and I was dying laughing 😂😂
That opening is like John Carpenter doing the Theme from JAWS.
Lol, this intro.
Brian had somethin goin there at the start
More of this and less of modern wrestling.
This is it. The reason I’m here.
Just got finished with the rating Omnibus, time to sleep...Oh wait...
Thought that was the generic wwe network entrance music for The Fantastics for a second
LMAO the music always makes me laugh i love these topics it's so much better than AEW worlds end last night jesus Christ that show bombed.
I am positively intoxicated by the effects of alcohol at the current moment, perfect thing to listen to while playing chess
Yeah. More retro look backs less hot takes on sexual harassment. Lol.
First comment
Like anyone gives a fuck.
Early, I usually am not.
Jim cornette doesn't need to talk about Jon moxley being foul mouthed when every other word that comes out of his big mouth is fuck or goddamn
Cornette isn't on live TV, that's the difference, Mark.
@@Cruising_On_Lake_Havasoma Exactly. Jim as explained this in detail, networks, FCC, advertisers, etc.
