The antenna makes the difference I'm using a Baofeng uv5rm with a dual band antenna in my car . I am in Haleyville Alabama and can hit the KJ4I Repeater with no problem I think it is about 30 miles away from me in Hamilton Alabama. 73 K4BWN

@tommy Baofeng makes good handhelds as well.

@@jeffjohnson5139 it is a Hand Held uv5r and I have the uv5rm with a mobile antenna and the car steelhead repeaters a good ways off
