  • In this video I remove and replace my VHF repeater antenna all by myself.
Old antenna was a Hustler G7 and the new is a Commscope DB224e. The performance improvements were substantial and definitely worth the effort but it should have been done in a safer way. My bad!

Well let me say this. I too have done some very foolish work on Towers over the years. We actually installed small temporary devices for surveillance equipment, not always announced! We actually installed equipment on a few towers at night.. Looking back, It was very foolish. But all in all you did a good job with what resources you had..
    Thank You

I have certainly seen a lack of safety awareness amongst radio amateurs. Last year I watched three radio amateurs putting up antennas during a thunderstorm. When I asked one of them what was their lightning safety protocol, he replied, "When we see lightning, we go inside." We have a human fault in thinking that because we have gotten away with a risky behavior before, that it is no longer a risky behavior.

Nice video. Thanks for posting. I use to climb my 95 ft tower to hang and work on antennas and often without safety equipment. I was young and dumb and wouldn't ever do that again. How is your range with your setup?

It has coverage of roughly 40 miles all directions of strong signal and 60 miles all directions for weaker coverage.

@@ScuffedRadio I remember in the CB days in the mid 1970's, some folks were so anal about tilting the 108" whip on their vehicles slightly forward so they were straight at highway speed.

@@45Unit at least that had some basis in reality... nowadays they just tilt them at a 45⁰ angle with all their energy going into the ground and into space. Some claim its for the grain silos which makes sense but the long haul truckers that do it have no excuse 🤣
